Yeh they should have a shot at things over the next five years but you have to take the chances when they come. Will Harry Kane be there for many more tournaments? Maybe 1 or 2 in his prime - he’s the world class striker you need for example.

congratulations to Italy! Very pleased for them that they get to do the Eurovision/Euros double.

not going to lie, pretty pleased at that scoreline, it's an excellent result for England, they lost it by only the narrowest of margins, there's something to build on and most importantly the next time I probably won't be losing my internet or having the prospect of staying up in the middle of the night for it.

You have to take your chances when they come around. Without wanting to be a massive pessimist, the next two World Cups look difficult. For starters it's the first ever World Cup mid-season, but it's also being held in the desert. So you've got to say the South American teams might have the advantage there. Then I think 2028 is held in Canada, USA, Mexico - so that's going to be a complete luck of the draw where you get based. The Euros in 2024 look a much more achievable prospect, but Germany will be massive favourites for that.

That said after the disaster of the 2010 World Cup, the FA changed the way they approach grassroots football and you can see it now, there are lots of good technically gifted young players coming through, which is still something we lack in this current squad.

I watched the match, Italy were the better team, so it's a fair result.

Penalties, it's in the nations psyche now that we go out on penalties, so it's become self-fulfilling. They start over-thinking it instead of just banging it in and if the goalie stops it thats fine. Too much pressure on those suddenly brought in to do that one thing, don't do it again, stick with the on-field players! To the minority of tosspots using the opportunity to make the predictable online racist comments, just look for a national team that reflects your views. And preferably move there, too. Thanks in advance...

To be fair Kane didn't really do all the much in the final anyway but there is a lot of younger talent coming up and the best World Cup performance for 28 years and tournament performance for 55 years is a huge thing. This team will have inspired and driven many more young people to get involved and hopefully in 10-15 years time we'll be seeing the results of this, a new generation of talent coming up.

Obviously both the semi final in 2018 and this final followed a similar pattern (early lead.. cowered into a defensive position.. trying to hold back the inevitable) and there will be recriminations and whatever but the most important thing is not the result but how you react to it.

I guess you could say that scotland came closer to the trophy than England did in the end πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈπŸ€£ (im joking for the record)

An unbelievable tournament, superb performances throughout from England, no disgrace in losing on penalties to what is a very good team which is also very experienced although it was utterly gutting. Thought the first half was really good and did our usual good job of completely limiting an opponent but they were getting to into it in the second half, and if the equaliser wasn't then it probably would have come later.

Everything about the England team at the moment is so likeable, a top bunch of incredible people it's been such a joy following, and I can't wait to watch them continue, such a young squad with so much talent in it, lead by the right person.

Maybe Southgate could have brought Rashford and Sancho on earlier, however they were 100% the right substitutions to bring on and if that's who he was taking off too then it would have been wrong to give them more than a couple of minutes, though I was surprised it wasn't Sterling going off. I was absolutely convinced Pickford was going to take one, he went 5th and scored in our last penalty shoot out and he'd had such a good tournament and game. I felt Donnarumma was a bit of a surprising pick, I didn't think he was the best goalkeeper in the tournament who was on the pitch last night. I'd have definitely picked Bonnuci if it had to be from the winning team.

A decent game all in all, we started of incredibly well but towards the end of the first half and into the second half we had very little of the ball and that cost us eventually. Both keepers doing very well in the shoot-out though, well done to Italy, very well deserved.
