It seems like DJ Bobo will have competition after all: Swiss hard rock band Shakra submitted a song to SF for their national selection for the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest. Lead singer Mark Fox told: It is true, we applied and we won't - with all respect for DJ Bobo - draw in our horns. Our fans all over Europe would be happy after Lordi to see another hard rock band winning the contest.

Shakra are actually from Trub (near Bern) and were founded in the 1990s. The style of the band is described as hard, pithy rock, reminding of the former Swiss band Korkus. The name Shakra comes from the Asian word Chakra and is the name for the seven energetic centers in the body. Nevertheless, it was not chosen because of esoteric reasons but because it is short, incisive and different from other band's names.

Earlier it has been announced that DJ Bobo submitted a song to SF. The eurodance star is one of the most succesful Swiss singers ever and is therefore highly tipped to represent his country in Helsinki. That's why many other Swiss music acts didn't want to apply for the selection. You can read more here.

In the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest final, Switzerland finished in a 16th place with Ralph Siegel's and Bernd Meinunger's If we all give a little, performed by the multinational group six4one. Therefore, they will have to enter the semi final in Helsinki.

It'll never work, and there will be quite a few rock groups entering in 2007 I reckon... which is why the UK and a ballad could do rather well. ^_^
Yes... i think alot of rock will enter.. so either a ballad or a great, catchy europop song... we would be fools to put rock or rap through... but on our selection show we only have bad songs to pick from :( ... when is the pick day... feb?

We could enter someone like Rachel Stevens I guess... she'd be quite well known across Europe, I suppose we should have had Costa for 2006! He woulda done better than Daz, even if the song was a bit bland.

Yeah i know but is rachel that known in europe and she can't sing that well :( mmmm jamelia is famous in europe and her career may go down the pan soon so she might win eurovision for us
