Australian Idol winner of 2006, Damien Leith stays at the top of the

Australian for his second week, but also adds his debut album to the charts

this week, more on that in the albums section below. The Top 6 songs shuffle

a bit, most notably Akon’s “Smack That†moves up 3 places to No.3 to reach

it’s highest peak so far.

The highest new entry at No.7 creates more history for one of it’s

singers this week. Shannon Noll and Natalie Bassingthwaighte cover the Peter

Gabriel and Kate Bush No.5 song from 1987 “Don’t Give Up†which is taken

from the album “Home: Songs of Hope and Journeyâ€. It give’s Shannon his 9th

consecutive Top 10 single from nine releases, and only has one more Top 10

to go to equal the record held by The Spice Girls for the past 6 years.

Right behind Nollsy and Nats at No.8 is the new single for Gwen Stefani,

“Wrap it Upâ€. It’s the lead single from her second album which I talk about

later on, “The Sweet Escapeâ€, and the song samples “The Lonely Goatherdâ€

from The Sound of Music throughout it’s chorus. In 2004/5 Gwen scored 6 Top

50 singles, “What You Waiting for†(No.1, Nov 2004), “Rich Girl†(No.2, Feb

2005), “Hollaback Girl†(No.1, May 2005), “Cool†(No.10, Sept 2005),

“Luxurious†(No.25, Dec 2005) and the duet with Pharrell, “Can I Have it

Like That†(No.22, Nov 2005).

The second single from Guy Sebastian’s third album “Closer to the Sunâ€

(No.27 this week) debuts at No.11, “Elevator Loveâ€. It’s the follow-up to

the No.3 single “Taller, Stronger, Betterâ€, which falls to No.43 this week

after 12 weeks in the charts. It’s his seventh Top 50 single, and with this

and Shannon Noll debuting at No.7, it gives the Top 50 7½ Australian Idol

Performed Songs in the charts (Marcia Hines also debuts this week, and as a

Judge on Idol, she’s the ½ part).

Nelly Furtado has gone to No.2 single with “Promiscuous†and a No.3 with

“Maneater†(No.21 this week), and now she debuts with the third single from

her former Top 10 album “Looseâ€, “Say it Right†and No.23. It becomes her

7th Top 50 single.

Sydney’s Sneaky Sound System hit No.25 back in July with their first Top

50 single “I Love itâ€. This week they debut at No.32 with their second

charting single “Picturesâ€, which has been at the top of the ARIA Club

Charts for the past 7 weeks (including this week). They are currently

supporting Robbie Williams on his National Australian tour.

This week last year Crazy Frog was peaking at No.4 with his “renditionâ€

of “Jingle Bellsâ€. Well this week he debuts with his fifth Australian

single, “Last Christmasâ€, a cover of the Wham single from December 1984,

which reached No.3. The song again charted in 1996 when it reached No.4 for

Human Nature, and again charted for Wham when it was re-released in late

1998. The last Crazy Frog charting single was the No.13 single from June,

his version of Queen’s “We Are the Championsâ€.

In August 2005, 2Pac debuted at No.1 with his only chart-topper, “Ghetto

Gospelâ€, and this week he enters the charts at No.42 with “Pac’s Lifeâ€

featuring guest vocals from T.I. and another departed R&B singer Ashanti.

Ten weeks ago Marcia Hines took her “Discotheque†album to No.6, and

this week her rendition of the 1980 No.13 single for The Brothers Johnson,

“Stompâ€, debuts at No.44. It’s duet with her daughter, Deni Hines, a first

for the girls.

The 540th No.1 album in Australia debuts at the top of the charts this

week, and becomes the seventh No.1 single for the comedian The Twelfth Man.

“Boned!†debuts on Double Platinum sales, something which U2’s “U218

Singles†took two weeks to achieve, and puts The Twelfth Man in equal sixth

position for the Most No.1 Albums in Australia.

He is tied with Rod Stewart, Elton John and Bon Jovi who have all

achieved seven No.1 albums, and it puts him in third place amongst

Australian Artists with the Most No.1’s. Ahead of him on eight each are John

Farnham and Jimmy Barnes. It also pushes his accumulated total of Weeks

Spent at No.1 up to 19 weeks, putting him in 20th place (up from 23rd) for

the Most Accumulated Weeks at No.1.

It’s the 121st Australian Performed No.1 album, the last being Human

Nature several weeks ago, whilst it also becomes the 153rd No.1 album by a

Male Artist, and the 37th by a Australian Male Performer. It’s the first

time that the words “Boned†or “Bone†has appeared in a No.1 album title,

and is the third No.1 album with an exclamation mark ( ! ) in it’s title.

The other two were “Help!†by The Beatles in September 1965 and “Slade

Alive!†in September 1972.

Coming in at No.3 with his debut album is this weeks No.1 Singles

chart-topper, Damien Leith, entitled “The Winner’s Journeyâ€, which achieves

Platinum Status in it’s first week, something which his single did last week

upon release. Last years winner Kate DeAraugo debuted the week of December

19th with her album “A Place I’ve Never Been†at only No.10, so Damien

achieves higher than last years winner with his album.

As I mentioned above, Gwen Stefani enters the Top 10 singles with her

new single “Wind it Upâ€, and it’s parent album “The Sweet Escapeâ€, her

second, enters the charts this week at No.15. Her previous album “Love,

Angel, Music, Baby†debuted at No.1 in February 2005 staying there for two

weeks.

Since when was Ashanti dead?

Since when was Ashanti dead?

 The Australians are terrible with American chart facts, they said that I Wanna Luv You by Akon jumped 19-1 (it was actually 17-1) and they said that Smack That had made number one -_-

Good to see Kylies album still doing well and now its 4x platinum

Here is a list of the No.1 songs this week on the Australian charts for the

past 66 years...

2006 - Night of My Life - Damian Leith (2nd week)

Good to see that Australia gets all it's idol/reality TV chaff out of the way in time for christmas....wish we would follow suit.

Since when was Ashanti dead?

Sounds like they were confusing her with Aaliyah
