October 12, 20213 yr Expecting Runaway (U&I) to be higher. Nonetheless, great to see it on the top 50 ^_^ Too bad Titanium is only finishing 41st this year. :(
October 12, 20213 yr It's a pity Diamonds has fallen, I definitely rate it more than We Found Love personally. Can we get some more appreciation for Anti next time please? Hoping Nothing Breaks Like A Heart performs better next time as well but excited to see how high up Midnight Sky can debut.
October 12, 20213 yr Nothing Breaks Like a Heart is a great track, really happy to see it remaining pretty stable. Hope it can snatch a top 40 peak in future years. That said, Late Night Feelings >>>>>>> everything else from that era
October 13, 20213 yr Nothing I voted for being revealed in the last 10 is decent (although Waves, Roses and Titanium were all top 45), including a few of my least favourite tracks in the whole final. Only 4 of the top 40 I have any real dislike for which is quite a good result I think.
October 13, 20213 yr oKxuiw3iMBE Kicking off the top 40 is ‘212’ by Azealia Banks which managed to take a major climb last year back into the top 40 and this year manages to retain that position. Last year it gained an automatic spot in the final round, this year it had to battle through the semi’s. ‘212’ gained 16 votes overall in the final and is the 7th highest placed song from 2012. Next year its is last year of being eligible, so will be interesting to see if it manages to maintain a top 40 place, or if it reaches a new peak. Tove Love takes a 33 places climb at 39 as ‘Stay High’ surges to reach an all-time high position. For the first 4 years ‘Stay High’ was top 200/300, however really broke through in 2019 where is climbed to 121st place, it then reached its first final in 2020 finishing in 72nd place. This year however it goes even further and climbs into the top 40. The song gained 15 votes and is the 4th highest placed song from 2014. ‘Levitating’ debuts high at 38 and is the first of 4 songs by Dua Lipa in the top 40. ‘Levitating’ finished in 4th place in the 2020 heat and gained an automatic spot in the final round and in the final it also finishes in 4th place for 2020… so the song seems to love a 4th place finish. In terms of Dua songs, ‘Don’t Start Now’, ‘Physical’ and ‘Be the One’ still remain. Rounding off this section is a double dose of Lana Del Rey as ‘Born to Die’ slips a place at 37 whilst ‘West Coast’ climbs a massive 92 places to hit the top 40 for the first time. ‘Born to Die’ has reached the final for the last 6 years and even managed a spit in the top 20 in 2017, last year is it’s last year of eligibility so it will be interesting to see where this finishes. It is the 3rd highest placed Lana song and the 6th highest from 2012. ‘West Coast’ meanwhile is enjoying new ground and its first ever final. The song finished 13th in its 2014 heat and 12th place in its semi-final, however does incredibly well in the final vote. It’s the second highest placed Lana song and means just ‘Video Games’ remains for her. 40 (37) Azealia Banks (feat. October 13, 20213 yr Nice boosts for Stay High and West Coast! Love them both. Great debut for Levitating too. Video Games was my 30 pointer so i'm naturally hoping it wins the whole thing.
October 13, 20213 yr Author 9Sc-ir2UwGU Kygo is given a huge boost this year, straight into the top 40 on his first attempt with 'Firestone', surpassing 'Higher Love' which sits at #69. The track released as his debut single is still what I consider to be his best effort and it is very pleasing to see it finally get a position it is deserving of in this contest. Having only got into the semis last year it finished top five in its semi this year and now places as the fifth-highest song from 2015. Two other songs from the year also appear in this section. Grimes has a big boost this year with 'Flesh Without Blood' racing back into the top 40 to #33. It is its 5th straight year in the Final having made the top 40 in its second year. It places as the highest song here that wasn't a chart/radio hit but the song has had a big indie following ever since its release. Many here will be pleased with its boost this year although I still don't particularly care for the song. Carly Rae Jepsen once won RotD with 'Run Away With Me' however the hype for the song has died down a fair bit ever since. It fell out of the top 10 last year for the first time, and now keeps its descent going as it lands in at #32. It won the year of 2015 however there are still two songs from the year yet to come, intriguingly both of them coming from the semi-finals. The song is the only former winner in the contest thanks to the complete domination of Bad Romance across the last decade and Dancing On My Own having won last year, so there will definitely be a first-time winner this time. P!nk had a large boost with 'Try' last year and the fans for the song are still here with it now moving up to #34. I've no idea what's caused it to gain so many fans over time but at least it's not 'Just Give Me A Reason' in its position, well done for choosing the better P!nk song of that era. Lastly we have a huge boost for Kanye West and friends with 'All of the Lights' in its final year. It had made #20 once though never came close since until now. I'm glad that Kanye being Kanye hasn't soured our appreciation of this track anyhow as it is brilliant. We're probably unlikely to see anything from his more recent material getting here so this is perhaps where we say goodbye to him from the contest (or can we give N****s In Paris a big last-year boost next year?) 35 122 312 Kygo (feat. October 13, 20213 yr Very pleased to see the big climbs for 'Runaway (U&I)', 'West Coast', 'Stay High (Habits Remix)', 'Flesh Without Blood' and 'All Of The Lights' - yessss BuzzJack
October 13, 20213 yr Loving the climbs for Tove Lo and P!nk (and Grimes, though with the wrong song of her two in my opinion!) Also pleased to see Levitating come bottom of the Dua Lipa entries, for me it doesn't lay a finger on Physical or Be The One.
October 14, 20213 yr Flesh Without Blood!!! Should be higher but seeing it back in the top 40 will suffice ^_^
October 14, 20213 yr QeWBS0JBNzQ Kicking off the top 30 is the first of 3 Dup Lipa songs to make it this far as ‘Be the One’ climbs 3 places to reach a new peak. ‘Be the One’ debuted in the top 50 back in 2018 and has managed to make the final each year, it briefly dropped out of the top 50 in 2019, however has climbed each year. ‘Be The One’ finished 4th in the 2017 heat and finishes 3rd overall for 2017 behind ‘Green Light’ and ‘Anywhere’. In Dua terms now just ‘Physical’ and ‘Don’t Start Now’ remain. Meanwhile also climbing to reach an all-time high position is ‘We Are Young’ which made the final for the first time last year after spending most of its run yo-yoing in and out of the top 200. In 2020 ‘We Are Young’ climbed into the top 50, this year however it climbs 18 places to reach the top 30 for the first time. It was backed by 15 voters which is actually 4 less than ‘Be the One’ however it gained much higher votes. The song is the 4th highest from 2012 which is quite good going considering it only made 12th in its heat and 9th in the semi-final vote. Be interesting to see if next year it continues to climb. Talking of climbs, ‘Take Me to Church’ surges into the top 30 at 28 as it reaches it’s first ever final. The song finished in 12th place in the 2015 heat, however claimed a surprise 1st place victory in its semi-final. ‘Take Me To Church’ was on a downward spiral since it’s initial debut at 199, falling to 495 in its 4th year. Last year however it made the semi-finals but just fell short. This year it’s a completely different story as it reaches new ground. The song gained 18 votes in total and finished 2nd in terms of 2015 songs – which is very good going. Bucking the trend, ‘Little Talks’ drops 14 places to its lowest position since 2015 where it placed 48th. ‘Little Talks’ came 2nd in its heat and directly into the final, here however it finishes in 3rd place behind ‘Somebody I used to Know’ and ‘Don’t You Worry Child’. Next year is ‘Little Talks’’ last year so it will be interesting to see if it manages to regain ground and peak in the top 10 again. Lastly at 26 ‘The Edge of Glory’ re-peaks in its last year, however misses the top 25 once again. The song has made the final in all but 1 year, however the last 3 years has seen it place in the top 40. 2019 it peaked at 26th place and this year it equals that feat. With ‘The Edge of Glory’ placing here, it means Gaga is now all out of songs, which must be a first that the top 25 songs of ROTD features no Gaga. ‘The Edge of Glory’ had 17 votes in total and finishes as the 6th highest ranked song from 2011, but the highest ranked Gaga song. 30 (33) Dua Lipa - Be The One = 330pts (48-52-33-30-) 4th, 2017 29 (47) Fun. October 14, 20213 yr Great to see Firestone getting a very high peak this year. We Are Young deserved to be on top 25, but I'll take that #29 Edited October 14, 20213 yr by Cow Cow
October 14, 20213 yr Having only participated in this for the last two years, I'm surprised to see We Are Young used to be so low. Thought it was the type of song that would have a few big fans but also quite a wide appeal with loads of voters putting it in the mid-ranking section of their votes.
October 14, 20213 yr Thrilled to see that astronomical rise for 'Take Me To Church'! It definitely ascended up my ranks this year.
October 15, 20213 yr Author tg00YEETFzg Mark Ronson has a huge uplift with 'Uptown Funk' rising over 200 positions to #25. It made the top 40 two years back but oddly missed out on a semi-final position last year. It almost missed out again having just scraped through finishing in 20th but it maintained its fanbase into the semis and the final. The song was so huge at the time that it has suffered somewhat from the overexposure but there is no denying it is a great tune and it is pleasing to see it holding up years later. Adele finishes a great run with 'Rolling In The Deep' bowing out at #24, up 24 on last year and almost swapping positions with 'Someone Like You' (20-45). It started off in the top 10 and never left the top 60 for the last ten years. As I type this the song is now back in the Spotify and Apple Music top 40 just from her finally coming back with new material which is testament to the song being an enduring classic. It's most definitely one of her greatest hits and her fans can be happy with this matching its 3rd-highest position in its final outing. Also on its last call we have 'We Found Love' which remains the top song from both Rihanna and Calvin. Some had hope for this to finally edge its way to the #1 spot after its #3 finish last year however it now sinks to its lowest position yet dropping out of the top 20 for the first time. Not the most pleasing of exits but still completing a very impressive run in the contest. It seems very unlikely either artist will ever match the quality of this track ever again, a true defining song of the early 2010s. You'll be missed from the running. Also exiting at a surprisingly early stage we have 'Into You'. The song easily won the 2016 round but slips down to #22 and is the 2nd highest ranked song from the year. It was very unlucky to miss #1 having been in the top 3 for its first four years but it seems that the hype for the song isn't as big now. I was never huge on this song so I'm glad it seemingly won't be a #1 contender for the whole remainder of the decade anyhow. It means we could definitely be seeing a big shake up towards the top this year. Ariana still has 'No Tears' left in the running which placed at #4 last year. Just missing out on a top 20 position by tiebreak we have Chvrches up a couple of spots from last year. The song once again benefitted a lot from late voters as it was initially looking like dropping quite a bit. It is the 5th highest song from 2013 which seems to be quite a strong year this time. 25 243 348 Mark Ronson (feat. October 15, 20213 yr oh! That's a couple of surprising exits, both 'Into You' and 'We Found Love' have been mainstays at the top end forever, must have had a very different set of voters this year. 'Take Me To Church' up at this end is great to see, not so much 'We Are Young', that's always been deathly boring, I preferred it being where it was :P I'm leaning between 'No Tears Left To Cry', 'Midnight City' or one of the Dua tracks for the top end now. Obviously I have my preference, I'm going to be cheering on 'Midnight City' and 'Faded' as they were my top 2, but I am quite surprised and pleased that the latter has made it this far.
October 15, 20213 yr Alan Walker seemed to do very well with quite a few voters so not surprised he's still in, although I would have been surprised at a top 20 placing before the contest began. Kinda expecting it to be at least top 10 this time after seeing the votes though. Very surprised to see both We Found Love and Into You miss the top 20 though :o Although quite pleased about the latter as, whilst it's an okay song, it's definitely been very overrated in previous years.
