Chart commentary: 17 new entries make their way to the top 50 this week, with 114 songs drafted for second listen, a record and it took a lot of time to listen them all and then rank all the other songs! Vega quickly became the second song this year to debut at no. 1, with a magnificent ballad lasting for about 7 minutes. The song is beautifully arranged and composed, and the progression is carefully laid out. This could well challenge the spot for the best song of the year and even become the first song this year to sit at no. 1 for more than a week! Elsewhere, Sheldon Riley dropped a touching ballad, which I almost cried. Other debuts are diverse in their genre but I must bring your attention to FIESTER, an all-girl rock band breaking all the stereotypes and trying to stop the male dominance in the local industry. The song is amazingly expressed too!

 

There Will Be Hope sadly has to settle for a second week at no. 2, and it will be very fortunate if this song continues to sit at this position without getting no. 1 spot, but the quality of the top 10 this week has been unusually high. Only two more songs jumped to the top 10, them being Exhausted and Mountain Side. Biggest jump goes to the empowering fighter song that is See Me. Never underestimate people!

Number One Entry

 

This is certainly the most beautiful song I've ever heard this year so far. It is a very slow song but it builds up to a grand climax in the end. The melody is exquisite and her voice stands out immensely in this song. I hope this will get some viral attention in the end.

 

Second Highest New Entry

 

Sheldon Riley is serving touching ballads, and this is yet another beautiful song showcasing his strong voice. Melody is amazing and the lack of instrumentation actually helps this song by focusing more on the vocals and their melodies.

 

Biggest Jump

 

Probably the most empowering song since Prioritise Pleasure, this fighter song is well sung by RoRo. Hailing from Barbados, she is supportive on the Black Lives Matter movement and is vocal about black positivity. Take my wig queen!

 

One to Watch

 

This is very unique with the choice of instrumentation, the structure of the song, and the melodies. It is not following any formula and is more about feeling the song. Sóley seems to hit the right spots with this left-field song. If Bre is watching my chart, here is one to watch if you know what I mean ;) This will take time to grow but I'm sure you'll benefit from the distinctive experience!

Hi john! Next week is going to be even crazier... 118 songs were lined up for second listen and there will be 153 songs to rank :o I really wish the numbers will go down because this is stretching my capacity. Glad you like Vega! Probably the best song of the year but you never know if there are even better releases later... KING last year was released like in December last year and became the best song of 2020 for me :P

Hi toffo and Jade! Glad you like I Don't Wanna Leave. I think this is probably his best track so far with the new releases. It is introspective and hits me hard. Could see this doing very well in my chart in the near future.
