Actually, Spotify pays more than YouTube.

"If you distribute your music to YouTube you can expect $0.000069 per stream whilst Spotify pays out $0.0043. So, to earn $1 with YouTube you would need to be streamed 570 times and on Spotify, you would need 229 streams".

Thanks, so absolutely no excuse for them to have completely ignored Spotify and streaming with SW25. Sigh.

Oh gosh, I hadnt realised that about HMV or Amazon... Trully baffling campaign overall, with so little to go by and a messy release overall... So so strange how it went south so quickly after the positive success of Spice25.

We know that it wouldnt set the charts alight with millions of copies sold, but hot damn...

On a more personal note, I think this will mean that I will finally get some discounted copies sooner than I thought I would be able to :teresa: Black Friday and post-Christmas sales periods are right around the corner :P

Spiceworld 25 is in the UK midweeks at #12 today with 1958 units sold...

So far:

Saturday: #4 with 1777 copies

Sunday: #8 with 1904 copies

Monday: #12 with 1958 copies

At this stage, will it even be Top40? Selling 54 copies since Saturday is pretty terrible for a new release...

Another thing Universal are also shit at is price reductions. The zoetrope vinyl is still full price as is the Wannabe vinyl on the official store. As are the few remaining Sporty and Scary individual vinyls.

Most artists these days reduce the price half way through release week let alone over a year after.

True, though you can get the Wannabe25 vinyl and the Spice25 CD for half price now at HMV :teresa: I will keep an eye out for discounts :arrr:

Shocking. There might be missing data in yesterday's update we wont know unless we get detailed mids.

These updates are horrendous! I feel like there’s no sugar coating this one. At this rate it’s not going to stay Top 40.
Very disappointing start for this but we kinda expected it, the only thing we know for sure now is it will go no lower than top 50. I hope it can get top 40 though but if handled right this easily would have seen them back in the top 10.

Honestly.... If they even had a standard CD in circulation for £10 it would have catched an easy Top10

The most baffling campaign ever...

It is completely out of iTunes charts around the world, apart from #77 in Canada, and #66 in Malta. Apart from that, dead in the water digitally...

They really need to vamp up the campaign this week, honestly... Even some reductions in price...

I doubt they will do anything to salvage things. I don't see them doing price reductions and I cant see them throwing money at promo like tv adverts for it.

Feels like when the CD was delayed and the negative reaction to the tracklist they just sort of gave up and let things play out with minimal extra effort.

For real, it seemed like the campaign was dead on arrival, sadly...

Just getting round to listening to this, wow the live versions are absolutely unlistenable. Too Much sounds like it was recorded underwater, how can they have put this out?

Was going to get the CD next month but eek, maybe not.

Its frustrating how its all turned out, when doing anniversary releases like this im of the opinion you either do it right or dont do it at all.

 Yeah I listened to the live tracks yesterday and honestly found it shocking that they were considered acceptable for release. So laughable to press audio of that quality onto a vinyl too.
I have listened to this in its entiriety now (probably won't go for the whole thing from start to end again but I am glad I've done it once). I think my main issue are the live tracks! The remixes are actually largely quite ok (the ambient mix of Viva Forever was a nice listen for example) but the live tracks are poor and in some cases unlistenable for me. I can't believe how badly the release has been handled given it was a proper celebration of the 25th anniversary. A shame because the album returning to the top 10 would've been such a triumph for it. :(

 Top 10 at least is what I was hopeful for when we first found out that Spiceworld 25 was going to happen, but with the format/track listing reveals, my hope of that faded. But the real possibility that it might not even end up going Top 40 is something I hadn't anticipated until today! :o

I like the Viva Forever remix too, it's a nice vibe with the guitar  I think that's one of the more worthwhile aspects of this release, having that on streaming.

Looking at the midweeks and I've noticed that a different 1997 album is outperforming Spiceworld this week! The Prodigy - The Fat of the Land is midweek #5.

As far as I can tell, that is with just one new vinyl format! :o

Now admittedly there isn't much between them at the moment. The Prodigy have sold 2,489 to be midweek #5 and Spice Girls are midweek #12 with 1,958, that's 531 sales difference. However Spiceworld 25 has 4 formats (3 vinyl, 1 cassette), yet is doing worse. I'm going to assume that The Prodigy's album has stronger streaming than Spiceworld manages too.

Spiceworld outsold The Fat of the Land in the End of Year chart 1997, 1998, and overall in the 1990s:

1997:

5th - Spiceworld - Spice Girls - 1,060,000 (8 weeks on sale)

6th - The Fat Of The Land - The Prodigy - 910,000 (26 weeks on sale)

1998:

27th - Spiceworld - Spice Girls - 438,000

78th - The Fat Of The Land - The Prodigy - 156,000

1990s:

38th - Spiceworld - Spice Girls - 1,520,000

85th - The Fat Of The Land - The Prodigy - 1,100,000

Anyway it's interesting that 25 years later and The Prodigy are outdoing them. I think it shows that if there's enough interest, then 1 format is sufficient, and makes you wonder how they'd have done if they'd gone with more formats.

I know the majority of the fanbase is distinctly unimpressed with Spiceworld 25 in terms of artwork and the bonus content, and many have decided not to buy it. But I think we can conclude from the sluggish sales that the general public hasn't been attracted to it either. I wonder if at least a part of the reason isn't just the poor formats, but also... is the album just not as remembered and beloved as it is for their core fan base?

I don't think these releases have a huge appeal outside a set fanbase to be fair - otherwise they'd stay in the charts a bit longer. From the bright side, just having it re-stocked in various formats means that it'll help improve trickle sales over the next few years (as long as the label keeps it in print).

There is nothing for a casual fan to bug though. It is £25 or more vinyls or a store exclusive £19.99 cassette. I'm sure Spice25 CD got a few casual sales even being pricey as I'm sure SW25 CD will too. They look better in HMV will be stocked everywhere that sells CDs too.
I’d consider myself a huge fan but I have zero interest in this due to prices of vinyls and it doesn’t feel like they are really that bothered about it?
