January 4, 20223 yr Author NO 80- 52 POINTS Never Gonna Give You Up Rick Astley (Voter: Rabbitfurcoat- 8 points, Riser- 15 points, Danvember- 10 points, Jason- 14 points, Bjork- 5 points)- No 1 for 5 weeks in August/ September 1987 1987’s biggest selling single exits next- it was Rick’s only No 1 and of course found fame in later decades due to “Rickrolling”. It was another transatlantic chart topper and “borrowed” its baseline from Colonel Abrams “Trapped”. ncVkZRhT5sI
January 4, 20223 yr Especially For You - both versions (the original and Denise and Johnny) spent the same number of weeks (three) on the top of my weekly chart. z92xtGhmveQ  Edited January 4, 20223 yr by Last Dreamer
January 4, 20223 yr Especially For You is such a cringe-fest... and yet I love it. I never liked UB40 as a kid, but love them now and think Red Red Wine is classic. I've had enough of Never Gonna Give You Up... Happily never hear it ever again.
January 4, 20223 yr poor Never Gonna Give You Up, thought it was more liked in here thought it was gonna be at least top 50 I don't mind the other two, really liked Especially for You as a kid, less so now :) Red Red Wine is a nice cover but UB40 overdid it with so many Labour of Love albums...
January 4, 20223 yr I prefer Together Forever to Never Gonna Give You Up, the production is more interesting, both songs are good though! Colonel Abrams - Trapped did infuence quite a few late 80s songs not only Never Gonna Give You Up but also Living In A Box - Living In A Box which was by the same producer and I think Alexander O'Neal's Criticize sounds influenced by Trapped too!
January 4, 20223 yr The Rickrolling thing has kind of killed NGGYU as a credible song, I don't ever actively wish to listen to it. Especially For You is cheesy as hell but still love it and Red Red Wine is a decent track.
January 5, 20223 yr Author NO 79- 56 POINTS My Camera Never Lies Bucks Fizz (Voters: AH Gold- 21 points, Nina West- 8 points, Last Dreamer- 27 points)- No 1 for 1 week in April 1982 The second Fizz record to leave us- it sneaked a week at the top but has done better than either of the records that bookended it at No 1 80BMeQR3_hs
January 5, 20223 yr Author NO 78- 57 POINTS Chain Reaction Diana Ross (Voters: Dircadirca- 15 points, Nina West- 13 points, Gezza- 17 points, Shoat- 12 points)- No 1 for 3 weeks in March 1986 Bee Gees penned track which returned Ross to No 1 for the first time in 16 years 4AT2OYaXjUw
January 5, 20223 yr Author NO 77- 57 POINTS Who's That Girl Madonna (Voters: Jackjones- 16 points, AH Gold- 11 points, ..Ready for it- 18 points, Bjork- 12 points)- No 1 for 1 week in July 1987 Second Madonna chart topper to leave the rate but 4 left in DeGDUQeu1C8
January 5, 20223 yr Chain Reaction is very good but I wonder why the Bee Gees didnt want to be credited on it? My Camera Never Lies is very good too! Caribbean music influenced I think much like Best Years Of Our Lives by Modern Romance later on in the year.
January 5, 20223 yr Interspersed through the video are quick snippets of the group re-enacting scenes from famous movies including Bonnie and Clyde, Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz and Cleopatra. QYDy4oSegNQ
January 5, 20223 yr I think My Camera Never Lies is my favourite of the Bucks Fizz ones - it’s kinda quirky. Surprised Red Red Wine didn’t do better - my mum loved it when I was a child so it brings back fond memories. I’ve had quite a few losses lately but my top 10’s intact. Not too surprising as my strategy was to give my top votes to solid choices and branch out for the others.
January 5, 20223 yr My Camera Never Lies is the best one out of those three. The Bucks Fizz songs are in the right order.
January 5, 20223 yr I have enjoyed this thread so far, hopefully we will do the 70s next as our final edition of this (as a lot of the 60s number 1s are probably a bit too forgotten)! Edited January 5, 20223 yr by TheSnake
