Ordinary World is also my #1 Duran Duran song

And mine, that’s how you revive your chart career in style, one of the best songs of the 90s.

NO 139- 11 POINTS

Don't Stand So Close To Me The Police (Voter: …Ready For It- 11 points)- No 1 for 4 weeks in September/October 1980

OBpcBz2.jpg

It may be the best selling single of 1980 but it’s our least favourite Police No 1 from the 80s- they have 2 left.

Jealous Guy Roxy Music (Voter: Shoat- 11 points)- No 1 for 2 weeks in March 1981

oeikx07.jpg

The only chart topper from Roxy Music but it finds little support from you lot.

This Ole House Shakin Stevens (Voter: Jimwatts- 3 points, Last Dreamer- 8 points)- No 1 for 3 weeks in March/April 1981

Third single in the rundown to exit for Shaky which leaves him with just one song left. It does however become the first track to attract two voters.

Pipes Of Peace Paul McCartney (Voter: King Rollo- 11 points)- No 1 for 2 weeks in January 1984

OQBgaza.jpg

Goodbye to McCartney though- all three of his entries are out with this the most popular- maybe not his best decade.

I Owe You Nothing Bros (Voter: Gezza- 11 points)- No 1 for 2 weeks in June/July 1988

The teen sensation of 88 only scored one chart topper but only I like it!

Out of those the one I like the most is I Owe You Nothing.

I was on a pub quiz a while ago and one of the questions was How many #1s did Bros have? and I was the only one that correctly guessed 1,

most said 2 and some even said 4. They were massive in 88 so it's kinda crazy they only scored one #1 song (although they got so many #2s)

Shakin Stevens did a good cover version of my favourite 50s song.

I'm a little shocked Don't Stand So Close To Me only got one voter, I thought it was held up better than that.

I Owe You Nothing is decent but I prefer When Will I Be Famous.

I Owe You Nothing and Jealous Guy are definitely my favourites of those songs. Roxy Music's version of Jealous Guy was on the Music of the Millennium compilation album in 2000 which my parents bought so I remember it and really liked it when I was younger, it also was one of my parents faves from the album https://www.discogs.com/release/1529561-Var...-The-Millennium

Poor Shakey and McCartney really not having a good time. This is a fairly decent bunch but I prefer the originals of This Ole House and Jealous Guy.
Pipes Of Peace is the first from my vote to go out. I also like Don't Stand So Close To Me, especially the intro, and Jealous Guy, especially the outro.
Vienna is overrated rubbish.

Is There Something I Should Know was UK # 1, when I was born.

allSTARS* cover

Vienna is music being pushed forward in the most graceful, magnificent way. allSTARS covers are not.

‘Pipes of Peace’ my favourite out of that bunch, is it a Christmas song though?
No massive losses there for me, none of these were close to my votes, although the Police song is decent enough and Shaky’s is catchy, Shaky Fan could have pushed that one way higher by voting.
Vienna is overrated rubbish.

There is no way it is rubbish but it is perhaps a bit overrated. I prefer 'The Voice' by Ultravox I have to say which takes itself a bit less seriously.

Ordinary World is also my #1 Duran Duran song

Its certainly one of their best imo, I also like the Aurora ft Naimee Coleman cover of it from 2000.

My favourite Duran song is ‘Save A Prayer’ or ‘Planet Earth’!

NO 136- 13 POINTS

Use It Up Wear It Out Odyssey (Voter: Fiesta)- No for 2 weeks in July/August 1980

HpRptX1.jpg

More 70s sounding than 80s maybe that counted against it?

Star Trekkin The Firm (Voter: Jackjones- 5 points, Jimwatts- 8 points)- No 1 for 2 weeks in June 1987

A “comedy” record that picked up points? What happened to Buzzjack?

I think the Roxy Music cover of 'Jealous Guy' is my favourite to drop out over the past couple of days.

In general I like Wham!/George Michael but 'I'm Your Man' doesn't do a lot for me. Better than the Shane Richie cover though :kink:

I don't get the mass hysteria that Bros sparked over here at all, maybe I had to be there, but they don't really excite me at all from what I've seen/heard

Some good picks of favourite Duran Duran song. 'Save a Prayer' has really crept up on me in recent years
