December 3, 20213 yr There's a lot of discourse about Maddy so far as the first straight cis male on the show, and I understand why some people are questioning it. However, people who don't do drag (a vast majority of detractors) are not in the place to gatekeep this imo. If someone performs in our community and makes a name for themselves to the point they are on Drag Race, as someone who is clearly very talented, I don't see how it means she is not deserving. I get there is a lot to be done for actual queer representation but it isn't Maddy's fault she is cast first over say a drag king. The show is indeed rooted in queer culture but it's their drag that matters, whatever their identity is! I'm sure Maddy is an ally who respects queer spaces, as someone who performs as a drag queen, and to me that is what matters. There are some gay people who don't respect queer culture and spaces, and there's straight people (usually women, moreso) who actually do. It's not like some random dude bro who has started drag yesterday is on the show taking the piss. Nobody batted an eyelid at Disasterina on Dragula for example who I believe is straight, I just feel like the demographic who watches Dragula is not the same judgemental demographic who largely watch Drag Race. As for everyone else, Willow, Bosco and Daya seem like the ones I will love based on the first look. Additionally, this season will only be on WOW+ not Netflix! I'm fine as I pay for WOW anyway but it's definitely a mistake to lock it behind a more or less dedicated service instead of something most people have.
December 3, 20213 yr Author I have literally zero issue with Maddy being cast. UK drag has always pulled from multiple theatre traditions as opposed to strictly queer people's, and we do get into I think uncomfortable conceptions of gender if we start to go back to saying that dressing up as 'women' (not even drag imo as it is more a character) is something only in the purview of gay men - that gets into territory where it's like you're saying that gay men = womanhood. Having said that, as a mod of the sub, I welcome other opinions & a respectful discussion, don't feel that you have to agree with my initial take on the situation. As for the WOW+ thing, that seems very stupid to me. I would be surprised if they didn't change that for international viewing.
December 3, 20213 yr Drag is for everyone literally everyone and if you think about it how progressive is it that a cis straight man wants to submerge himself into queer culture when its usually straight men who have a problem with us. Love that there is two POC trans women on the show (Kornbread and Kerri). My fave promo look is either Willow or June both stunning.
December 3, 20213 yr I don’t have much of a problem with Maddy other than she seemed very dull in that MTQ. If I had to rank based solely on MTQ i’d say- 1. Angeria Paris Vanmichaels 2. Kornbread 3. Deja Skye 4. Kerri Colby 5. Lady Camden 6. Alyssa Hunter 7. Daya Betty 8. Jorgeous 9. Willow Pill 10. Bosco 11. June Jambalaya 12. Jasmine Kennedie 13. Maddy Morphosis 14. Orion Story I actually overall really liked the MTQ- from 1-9 were all really fab. Bosco got on my nerves but there’s clearly something there. The rest I could take or leave
December 3, 20213 yr Author I'm looking forward to the MTQ so I can do predictions! My prediction for Canada is looking decent, although infamously I've got UK completely wrong two years running :lol: From the promo video I'm most excited for Jorgeous and Lady Camden. Kornbread I already know a little. It's been interesting following the talk about Maddy that's US-based, I guess I didn't quite realise how much drag over there is so firmly connected to Queerness in general. I don't think it really is as much here.
December 4, 20213 yr My thoughts: Angeria - I didn't expect her to be like that at ALL? :lol: Solely based on her look, I thought she was gonna be a "go girl give us nothing" polished but dull type for some reason. I really like her personality and aesthetic so far! Alyssa - not feeing a huge amount towards her at present, she gives me token early out language barrier queen Bosco - I feel she could go either way, her promo look was disappointing based on what I've seen of her drag aside from that but then maybe the theme was stifling idk. I love her humour so far and I feel like I will stan Daya - as much as I love Crystal, it feels rn like she envokes her too much but in a weaker way Deja - she's giving me lovable early out vibes, we shall see Jasmine - seems like a bitchy fashion queen to me so far, hopefully there is more we shall see Jorgeous - seems likeable and pretty fun, one to watch I think June Jambalaya - she's stunning, really polished too if not the most exciting Kerri Colby - stunning, I do want more than "I'm sexy and pretty" though Kornbread - ICONIC, I just love her already and I felt like I could have watched her for the entire MTQ duration :lol: Lady Camden - she's radiating warmth, I think she could be amazing if she melds the best parts of US and UK drag as she promised Maddy - honestly from the MTQ... It does seem like she maybe was just cast for being straight because althoguh she seems nice enough, there doesn't appear to be a *huge* amount there Orion - seems really chill and likeable, could go either way Willow - loving her so far and if she's anything as good as Yvie on the runway, then I'm ready to stan! Kerri Colby Kornbread Bosco Maddy Morphosis Alyssa Hunter Deja Skye Lady Camden Willow Pill Angeria Vanmichaels June Jambalaya Orion Story Jorgeous Daya Betty Jasmine Kennedie A wee bit about the reasoning... Jasmine seems like the most obvious first out of the bunch, but all of the bottom 5 showed what I thought were weak spots. After the reveal alone Orion was my pick for first out because Jasmine had the flip, but if she goes against a better lipsyncer she's still toast imo. I could see Willow being divisive so midpack seems about right. Angeria seems polished but with questionable taste level, so I can see her going about as far as Tina Burner. I can see Alyssa Hunter lipsyncing her way to top 5. Deja Skye was my favourite of the bunch after watching the MTQ along with Kornbread and Bosco. Jorgeous lost me a bit now and I think she might be limited. Lady Camden I liked too but it depends how flexible she is. She's a top 4 potential too. As for the top 4, Kornbread seems like a cert from the promo. Bosco is my pick for fashion queen, though it could be Lady Camden too. Surely Maddy Morphosis was cast to make top 4, I expect she might get pushed. Kerri Colby could go either way, I didn't miss that she reused her promo look for both categories. I think if she doesn't go far she'll go early, but I'm hedging my bets on her for now, she was hard to read.

(Post #3) Season 14 will be the first regular season: to feature a straight man, Maddy Morphosis. to feature a queen from Puerto Rico, Alyssa Hunter, since Cynthia Lee Fontaine of Seasons 8 and 9. to feature a cast of 14 entirely new queens since Season 11. to feature two openly trans women, Kerri Colby and Kornbread Jeté, since Drag Race Thailand Season 2 This cast noticeably features far less queens that share any relation to past Drag Race contestants. Queens that do share relation to a past contestant are ... Daya Betty, who is the drag sister of Season 12 runner-up Crystal Methyd. Willow Pill, who is the drag sister of Season 11 winner Yvie Oddly.

To clarify, it's 14 queens who are new S12 and 13 had only 13 queens, although they were all brand new, while S11 had 14 new queens plus Vanjie who was returning ;) Then S10 had Eureka returning, and S9 had Cynthia returning It was phrased confusingly!
