And a song which I have to say I wouldn't have gone anywhere near when I first got into Nico & Vinz. Thankfully I've come to appreciate low-key songs a lot more over the past few years, allowing me to understand how good this song is. Video P9GhomFgACA Commentary Aaand another song still in my chart! This was in the Top 10 at the same time as Glass Animals but couldn't be more different, tackling the difficulties of mental health and not being able to share your feelings. There are some abnormalities in the piece (the beat 'lifting' as the line about jumping from the second floor is sung is an interisting one) but they have taken an incredibly sad narrative and made it into an incredibly beautiful song. I added this song to my playlist after the promise of a 'single version' on Spotify - they don't appear to have promoted the 'single' very well as there was never a music video but that doesn't stop this song from being fantastic. It has everything in it that a Coronas song needs and continued to stick in my head throughout all the cold months last year. The January lull whilst it was out also means that it was in the Top 5 before I moved things around a bit so #14 is probably a more reasonable result for this song. It's a very nice song anyway, the song being about being there for someone when they need it the most and giving them the reassurance they need. There's something special about this song, a very powerful track about the places they grew up, and whilst I've never been to Canterbury (let alone grown up there!) it's very relatable, talking about how life used to be and going back to that life whenever possible. January 31, 20223 yr Author Into the Mystery sounds really lovely, that's an impressive chart run and quite a low peak to manage the top 20 but a great discovery for me! Glad you're enjoying it! Video TJBh_hj6DzE Commentary Never did I think a song which missed the Top 10 in my weekly chart would make it there in the EOY but here we are! It took me so long to finally get into this song that I didn't think a #1 would be particularly suitable, but it's been rewarded with what is probably the longest chart run in my chart ever (I've not actually counted but 7+ months in is pretty good going!) The song has a really ear-grabbing chorus, but the way the song evolves and builds throughout, with various peaks and troughs, makes it sort-of a work of art. Very much deserving of its Top 10 spot! The song pretty much only has one extended melody which is repeated throughout the song, but those dark-sounding vocals and very laid-back guitar strings (building up throughout the song) caught me on first listen and stuck with me through the first part of the year, eventually racking up a full five weeks atop my chart. Video wt5Zu767sz8 Commentary I hadn't really paid much attention to White Lies since Tokyo (and not too much before that) but this song appeared on my Discover Weekly and just grabbed my attention. The song just works so well together, and the theme of trying to keep yourself together when your mind is pulling in all directions is of course very topical. Video nLVzyoNATEQ Commentary Get that 2015-esque chart run :P Fair to say it took me a while to fully warm to this song after liking it on first listen, however once I did it quickly became one of my favourites, and my favourite London Grammar song by quite a way. The slow ballad-esque style, the way her voice stands out, the overarching theme of despair as the song goes on, all of these things make the song what it is.
