January 9, 20223 yr Author Albums: Top 40  4 Why Don't We - The Good Times and the Bad Ones | 1-1-1-1-2-2-2-4-6-4-6-7-6-4-3-5-7-8-10-11-11-10-11-13-13-14-x-8-11-x After a prolific few years of their career, involving five EP releases, a studio album and a song every month for a whole year, Why Don't We had a quiet 2020 for the most part, dipping out of social media before returning with the pop-rock anthem Fallin' (Adrenaline) in late 2020, kickstarting the American boyband's second proper era. The boys were vocal about how the album was a change in direction for them towards something more mature, with them taking the reigns, and it's obvious immediately through the singles. Fallin' channels 5 Seconds of Summer's Youngblood and the boys are playing instruments on one of their songs for the first time, while band member Daniel produced the whole album. The result is exactly what they wanted it to be - a more mature effort than their debut, with much more to show than just the three singles, from the sexy Look at Me to the delicate ballad Grey which I've linked below. It was so exciting to see this become their first UK top 5 album - with some help from me buying 15 (!!!!!!!!!) copies...! Charting Tracks 01 Fallin' (Adrenaline) 02 Lotus Inn 03 Slow Down 23 Look at Me 25 Grey 30 Love Song ypAK92SpglI  3 Anne-Marie - Therapy | 2-1-2-3-4-7-7-6-8-8-7-8-11-13-12-6-7-5-6-6-5-4-6-… The second album is difficult for many artists and I was really hoping Anne-Marie wouldn't fall at the same hurdle that so many artists have. 2020 wasn't looking promising, with Birthday being a minor hit at best and To Be Young missing the mark completely. Thankfully, 2021 was a far brighter picture. Don't Play instantly became one of Anne-Marie's biggest hits, both officially and in my chart, soaring to the top of my chart in its first week. The garage-influenced hit undoubtedly rescued the campaign, which produced another two top 20 hits in the UK, one of which was another #1 in my chart - Our Song, with Niall Horan. Therapy as an album didn't disappoint me at all - I think I actually prefer it to Speak Your Mind, which was my sixth favourite album of 2018. Therapy is a more cohesive effort despite the range of collaborators, and it has an array of single choices if she actually does end up pushing a post-album single at any point. Better Not Together is a huge anthem and sounds like it'd be a gigantic hit if they wanted to give it a go, while the title track and album closer Therapy is an honest and encouraging anthem that could easily have turned out quite preachy / clichéd, but thankfully pulls through on sincerity. I met Anne-Marie for the second time at her album signing for this - it was my first event since COVID and it was so much fun, she was so lovely. I then saw her launch show at Pryzm a week later, and I'm attending her tour later this year - it's never been a better time to be an Anne-Marie fan. (also worth noting that it came out the same week as The Kid LAROI's F*CK LOVE 3, hence the #2 debut - most of the album tracks below managed to chart so well despite all 13 new Laroi songs being in my top 20 that week...!!!) Charting Tracks 01 Don't Play (Anne-Marie, KSI & Digital Farm Animals) 01 Our Song (Anne-Marie & Niall Horan) 03 Birthday * 03 Kiss My (Uh Oh) [Anne-Marie & Little Mix] 04 To Be Young (feat. In fact, it was only my 46th favourite album of the year, following Purpose finishing third and Believe being my top album of 2012. Thankfully, things got back on track in 2021 with the arrival of Justice. Inspired in part by the 80s throwback sound that's prominent in pop right now, Justin moved away from the samey hip hop-esque beats of Changes and towards sophisticated pop music. The anthemic choruses returned, as heard in songs like Anyone, Ghost and Deserve You, while the catchiness of Peaches is unrivalled on the album. Emotional moments are present too, notably in singles Holy and Lonely. I'd say the Martin Luther King Jr. soundbites are a bit unnecessary as the album isn't really related to his message, but take that interlude out and you've got an album that genuinely doesn't let up from the start until the end (standard edition - deluxe tracks bloat it a bit but they're easily ignored). In release week, Justice tracks featured four times in my top 10, including a rare #1 non-single in the form of The Kid LAROI collaboration Unstable. I think it's Justin's best album to date, which is a huge turnaround from Changes and an album I know I'll be returning to a lot in the future. Charting Tracks 01 Anyone 01 Hold On 01 Unstable (feat. I make the rules for this thing and I'm still not sure but I've allowed it to happen - the same album is #1 two years running. Now, I wouldn't usually allow this, and if The Kid LAROI's F*CK LOVE project had been left as it was at the end of 2020, with the addition of the SAVAGE tracks and nothing more, then it wouldn't be allowed to feature this year. However, TWO further editions came in 2021. F*CK LOVE 3: OVER YOU arrived with seven new songs added to the start of the project, including global smash hit STAY. Days later, F*CK LOVE 3+ came - a deluxe edition with another six songs, bringing the whole project up to 31 songs and 4 interlude skits. The F*CK LOVE project tells something of a story - the initial edition is a break-up, it's bitter and it's petty and the songs go through the ups and downs of the break-up process. In the final track SELFISH, Laroi promises to be "savage", and he delivered - part 2 was subtitled SAVAGE and added seven songs that shared the same theme of revenge, culminating in WITHOUT YOU, an admission that it's time to move on. OVER YOU is that final chapter - closing the door, and the seven songs initially added close the door perfectly, closing with STILL CHOSE YOU, a song where Laroi admits he's fallen in love again with someone new. It's a remarkable journey and I love that he's paid close attention to the tracklist order despite the numerous editions conflating things somewhat! Some of the new songs had been highly anticipated for a while. SAME ENERGY leaked a while ago, even making it onto streaming unofficially for a day or so, while STILL CHOSE YOU was supposed to be the lead single before the Jorja Smith sample wasn't cleared as quickly as they'd hoped and Justin Bieber ultimately hopped on STAY, a track teased for over 6 months before its release, making that the obvious choice for lead. It's great to have all these songs out finally, and it's safe to say I spammed them all a LOT upon release. Laroi locked out 9 of 10 spots in my weekly chart's top 10, with only one spot going to Anne-Marie's Kiss My (Uh Oh). Every one of the 13 new songs placed in my top 20, and all 31 songs from the whole edition have made my top 40 - obviously the most from any singular project - while F*CK LOVE itself now has a whopping 21 weeks at #1, far surpassing the record of 16 held by Troye Sivan's Blue Neighbourhood for several years. It's remarkable achievement and it's a clear display of just how huge this era has been for me - through strong production, catchy hooks and simple yet relatable lyrics, Laroi's taken us on a journey through the ups and downs of not just his relationship but his life (see PIKACHU, a song about his glow-up from humble beginnings, and TELL ME WHY, a song about the passing of Juice WRLD). F*CK LOVE is over now, but Laroi left us with a teaser in 3+ track I DON'T KNOW - the final lyric of the track is "album 2022", so will Laroi make it a hat-trick in my EOY album chart? We'll see but the odds are certainly in his favour if it's even half as huge as F*CK LOVE has been. Charting Tracks 01 ALWAYS DO 01 NEED YOU MOST (So Sick) 01 SO DONE 01 STAY (The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber) 01 STILL CHOSE YOU (feat. January 10, 20223 yr No surprises there with Laroi :kink: 'Stay' is decent enough but I'm going to need songs of that type in general to be on board more I think. I'm going to guess that 'Stay' is your EOY #1 song too haha.
January 10, 20223 yr i'm still so mad that Slow Down was never serviced to radio stations </3 so glad Why Don't We are free from their shitty label :cheer:
January 10, 20223 yr I haven't listened to any of your top 10 :kink: but I'm happy to see Doja, Bebe & Olivia in your top 20. I think 'Planet Her' was an improvement on 'Hot Pink' for Doja. It felt like she has really grown as an artist and there was less filler this time around. Some brilliant singles on there too!

CHILI - Svarta Moln | 17-x Going to keep commentary low at the lower end to race through it a bit quicker but for now, we've got a sea of brief top 20 hits. Falling straight out of the top 40 from the top 20 became more common in 2021 as the top 10 produced more long-runners yet the overall turnover remained high. Oscar Enestad's only 2021 release was one of his least impactful to date unfortunately, as lovely as it is. We lose an album track from The Kid LAROI immediately - it's my least favourite from the whole F*CK LOVE project but that means there's another 12 from his 2021 tracks still to come (and two features, which still doesn't make him the artist with the most songs!). There's also a double appearance from Powfu in feature capacity, as well as Joshua Bassett and Sabrina Carpenter's early 2021 releases, both allegedly responses to Olivia Rodrigo's monster smash drivers license (still to come). Also: Natalia Gordienko. Album tracks from Miles Wesley and Ulrik Munther drop out, as well as a BJSC hit from Cruel Summer actress Olivia Holt (though I knew and charted the song before the contest!). Katy Perry's Electric started promisingly but wasn't one I revisited much in the end, and we see some Melfest representation with Emil Assergård, the second track to feature already from the Swedish song contest (after Nathalie Brydolf above). C7HJba6t_7k

The film was a little underbaked but the song's a euphoric pop moment with a huge chorus! Speaking of big choruses, Steps delivered one of their best to date in To the Beat of My Heart, a track I severely underrated until recently, finally charting for the first time roughly a year after its single push occurred. Seeing them live gave that song a new lease of life for me, even if it only featured in a VT lol. Album tracks from Justin Bieber, Anne-Marie and Why Don't We feature here, alongside the first two appearances from Canadian musician Jutes, who features a huge 16 times across the whole list - more than any other artist. RS_rCr50OTo  261 Anne-Marie - Therapy | 25-36-x 262 Michael Schulte - Here Goes Nothing | 14-32-x 263 Demi Lovato - Melon Cake | 18-x 264 JLS - Eternal Love | 17-28-x 265 Joshua Bassett - Feel Something | 13-x 266 Elton John & Years & Years - It's a sin | 35-x-17-23-x 267 Jubël - Weekend Vibe | 11-17-40-x 268 Noak Hellsing - Desire | 14-29-x 269 Mark Diamond - Monster | 12-x 270 Diamond Pistols feat. Mark Diamond is one of them, though - Monster was a lovely discovery, a cute track with endearing vocals that almost cracked my top 10. Joshua Bassett loses a second track of three already, while another Anne-Marie album track falls and Demi Lovato also appears with an album cut - their highest position this year. JLS made a comeback with Eternal Love which slid into my top 20, while Elton John's prolific 2021 began in my chart with top 20 hit It's a sin, in collaboration with Years & Years who still has another appearance to come. oBqSb_G9ycM

Another of Jutes' weekly releases falls out first, followed by Polo G's highest charting track as a lead artist, no doubt thanks to The Kid LAROI featuring on the track. They've got another song together to come, with the credit swapped. The first of two songs each for Johnny Orlando and Dotter feature here, with both of these singles charting in the same week (and tumbling out the following week). Dotter's fellow Melodifestivalen competitor Efraim Leo drops out with his actual entry, though he has another song to come. Dylan Fraser's Losing Sleep became his first hit in three years and is the longest running track to feature so far, just missing the top 250. YkLVeUwIzG4  241 Anton Ewald - DeLorean | 10-19-x 242 Kamal. - lose | 19-30-x 243 Dayglow - Medicine | 17-33-x 244 DJ Khaled feat. It's the first of a few collaborations in this section, including an iconic team-up from Imanbek, Sean Paul and SofÃa Reyes (Imanbek has more to come later but that's all for the other two this year), "another one" from DJ Khaled and Justin Bieber with guest rap from 21 Savage, and the perfect example of a pop-rock collaboration between WILLOW, Avril Lavigne, and of course Travis Barker who's insistent on releasing a song with everyone it seems. Also in this section is the highest charting hit from indie-pop singer Dayglow, the beautifully understated first hit for Kamal. (best known for collaboration with Dave on top 40 hit Mercury last year, thanks Bra for the recommendation!), and the second and final appearance from Swedish popstar Efraim Leo with an Enrique Iglesias cover. Notably, though, we lose our first top 10 in this section - Anton Ewald's DeLorean was his second hit of the year but it tailed off quickly. It's a good track but lacks the punch of previous single New Religion, which is still to come (much later!). V5xTEOmh1Fc
January 12, 20223 yr I did like Monster from this year's BJSC! One of those songs that didn't grab me instantly but grew on me a lot as the week went on. Would've been nice for it to finish a little higher!
January 12, 20223 yr 'El Diablo' was one of the standouts from the earlier songs on the night for me and should have finished a little bit higher than 16th. 'Merry Christmas' would have been better if Elton wasn't on it oops. Haven't really heard much of that particular Pink song, mind you the only one that grabbed me was the Rag feature which seems unpopular on Buzzjack unsurprisingly! January 13, 20223 yr I was so happy that Skin managed to have some small chart success for Sabrina even if the circumstances regarding Olivia was a bit of a disappointing way for it to happen.  El Diablo was my favourite from Eurovision this year so glad to see it make an appearance. Love (Sweet Love), Selfish Love & Let Them Know are great too :D

It's a fun track with a strong chorus, though it got old for me quite quickly. guccihighwaters scored three top 10 hits over the course of 2021, with lately being the most recent - it's definitely a good track but the least good of the three, with the first two coming much later. Elsewhere, we have album tracks from The Kid LAROI and Why Don't We dropping out, and the first of four appearances for newcomer Jonah Kagen, this one in collaboration with Matoma who scored his first hit as lead artist in four years. Doja Cat missed the top 20 with Need to Know but it had strong enough longevity to place highly here! Alfie Templeman and Torine also appear for the first time, of two each, and NEIKED's team-up with Mae Muller and Polo G closes this section with their relatively long-running top 20 hit Better Days. QyXQ_xdoLEY  221 Olivia Rodrigo - deja vu | 20-35-22-25-x 222 Denis Coleman - Make Friends (R3HAB Remix) | 12-18-32-x 223 Powfu, Rxseboy & Sarcastic Sounds feat. Something Stupid is one of my favourites of his now, with a strong vocal performance from AWA who charted for the first time since 2014. His latest single Don't Wake Me Up is set to chart strongly this week, with Why Don't We on vocals; their cover of Justin Bieber's Mistletoe is just one spot above. UK #1 hit Wellerman was initially a baffling thing to me but its catchiness proved too much and it found its way into my top 20 for Nathan Evans and friends. P!nk and Jubël appear for the second and final time each, with the latter being one of three top 10s to drop here, the third and final one being Powfu's the way that you see me, a song that dropped at the start of the year but didn't make it onto the EP that followed. Alexander Stewart pops up with 24 Hours, the lower of two tracks he features with this year, much like Denis Coleman who appears with the R3HAB remix of Make Friends, a song I discovered when he supported HRVY live (he performed the remix!). The Kid LAROI loses one more song from the F*CK LOVE 3+ deluxe album and the section closes with Olivia Rodrigo's lowest of three songs, though deja vu proved to be more of a slow-burner than the two still to come! bHqP2a8hbeI
January 14, 20223 yr Really love "Who You Are" and "Something Stupid". Both are amazing songs! "Cover Me In Sunshine" was ok at first, but it's a skip for me now
January 14, 20223 yr 'Cover Me In Sunshine' is lovely, great to see it here! :wub:Â The amazing, beautiful and perfect 'deja vu' not even top 220? I pretend not to see that
