Shocked by that! I know Danny Ric has struggled but that's a huge call replacing him with a rookie.

Piastri will need to have Hamilton 2007-style season if he's gonna beat Lando in his own team but what an opportunity if it does pay off!

but he doesn't have to do better than Norris

he just needs to do better than Ricciardo, which is sadly not that hard, he's been the worst of the worst this year, at Latifi's level tbh :/

Admittedly his junior career has been incredible. I wouldn't be surprised if he was Leclerc or Russell level after a couple of seasons.

Mick Schumacher will be racing for his career in the latter part of this season after Haas reportedly called time on his contract negotiations, the team believing they hold all the cards.

Schumacher recently began talking with his team boss Guenther Steiner about the possibility of a third season with Haas, to stay on as Kevin Magnussen’s team-mate.

“Talks are going on every day,” he said at the Hungarian Grand Prix. “It will probably only go into more detail after or during the summer break.”

But while that was moving in the right direction, the situation changed when Aston Martin announced Sebastian Vettel will be leaving at the end of this season and Vettel put forward Schumacher’s name as his replacement.

The speculation had barely begun before Aston Martin shocked the paddock as they confirmed Fernando Alonso will be the four-time former World Champion’s replacement.

Schumacher lost out and, according to RTL, is now in a fight for his future on the grid as Haas have called time on their talks with the driver.

According to the German broadcaster, “Schumacher will not get a new contract with his Haas team during the summer break as team boss Guenther Steiner is no longer in a hurry to negotiate an extended contract with the driver”.

RTL says that is because of how the Aston Martin situation played out, Haas believing they are now the 23-year-old’s only option.

What choice does Mclaren really have here? He’s under contract and they’re severing it, aren't they?

They are, unless there's some sort of performance clause. But from the sounds of it, I doubt there is one.
McLaren seem to have promised seats to half a dozen people. I am hoping this all ends in tears for McLaren with Piastri out on his ungrateful arse

Daniel Ricciardo says F1 still “really gets me jacked” in his first interview since speculation intensified that he is about to be replaced at McLaren.

What he hoped would be a relaxing summer break away from the stresses and strains of Formula 1 instead has had Ricciardo in the headlines, ever since his former Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement on the eve of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.

An increasingly bizarre chain of events followed as Fernando Alonso was named as the German’s successor at Aston Martin, before Alpine announced the following day the Spaniard would be replaced by their academy prospect Oscar Piastri.

However, the young Australian refuted that declaration on social media within a couple of hours amid reports he was set to join McLaren in 2023 – in place of Ricciardo.

Fernando Alonso has confirmed the expectation that his contract with Aston Martin starting in 2023 will last for two years.

Although there had been a sense it was a move the Spaniard could make, the speed with which Alonso’s switch from Alpine was announced came as something of a shock.

Only four days after Sebastian Vettel revealed he would retire at the end of this season, Aston Martin informed the world Alonso would replace him – those events occurring on the day before and after the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend respectively.

If they fail to have a (proper) race again, that could be the nail in the coffin for Spa.
If they fail to have a (proper) race again, that could be the nail in the coffin for Spa.

It's probably already too late.

I'm going to assume this is the last GP there anyway,.

Back to Alpine then presumably. Shame it never worked out for him at McLaren, on paper it seemed like the perfect driver/team combo but he's been way too far off Lando.

Now that opens the door to Oscar Piastri coming in to McLaren now surely. I heard that it is a outside chance that Schumacher will end up at Alpine and Ricciardo goes to Haas., although I'm probably talking out my backside there.

Well I would say Piastri to McLaren looks nailed on now but knowing him anything is possible.

Mick to Alpine would be madness imo, still hasn't proved he's ready for a team upgrade yet. And if Haas was the only seat left for Danny Ric he's sooner retire

I wouldn't say its nailed on, gotta see what the contract board says. Personally I really REALLY want Alpine to have the valid Piastri claim so that McLaren get everything they deserve and get royally f***ed by this whole thing. It would be what is right

The real shame is that Daniel never really stood a chance at McLaren, the team have repeatedly designed their car around Norris and his driving style, which is almost the exact opposite of what Ricciardo wants.

DR likes good aero package so he can brake early and use the strong front end grip to turn in early, keep a higher minimum speed through the apex and power out of the corner quicker. Both the Red Bull and Renault cars had a looser rear end which he was more than happy to deal with whereas both the McLaren's he's been given have the rear being much tighter and the front being very loose.

This is very comfortable for Norris but means that Daniel would have to drive completely opposite to his natural style. Sainz also has a more compatible style but even he described the car to Ricciardo as both 'interesting' and 's challenge'. Very few drivers are capable of totally changing their style and remaining equally competitive but those that can are exceptional - the only ones I can think of, who were active in the last 20 years are Alonso, Schumacher and Raikkonen.
