Posted January 1, 20223 yr Kp6rvL_BwVI it's been 23 years since the original Where My Girls At was released in 1999, which means that it would've been released in 1976 if it had been a cover originally.
January 3, 20223 yr Any reason why this has got nearly half a million views in 4 days! That is HIGE for a new band..great time as well. Reminded me of early 00s pop.
January 4, 20223 yr They had a performance on German TV the other day... somehow? JqED0kSQwhQ EDIT: Ah this makes sense, Universal are behind them - https://www.backstage.com/casting/new-inter...x-music-370624/
January 4, 20223 yr I do remember the original quite well even though it was only a minor hit. This doesn't sound like it was recorded 23 years later, more like 3 years later! Very Christina Milian circa-2002. Whatever huge push they're enjoying isn't translating to anything massive on streaming so far, 95,000 plays on Spotify as of today. Clearly they're a big focus for the label but I don't see what they're offering that will stand out in 2022.

Going by what they've posted on their socials it seems like they're well aware that there's a gap in the market for a girl group, so I'm not surprised at the big push. It wouldn't surprise me if we're going to see another few attempts this year and next at breaking a girl group. And that performance on German tv is a bit tragic, bless 'em. January 4, 20223 yr I’m a sucker for pop bands and love early 2000’s music. I’d be happy to see Venus (or Melladaze, the girl group from the Litte Mix BBC show) do well.
January 4, 20223 yr They're definitely focusing on Germany - their Top 5 listener locations on Spotify are Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Stuttgart and Cologne. Also: "JINX Music is a label, management and publishing company based in Berlin, Germany". However, the girls are all from the UK. An interesting tactic for a German company to form a UK girl group to try and break Germany? I'm kind of dubious about the video's view count? Approaching 500k views is high for a video that has only attracted 1k likes, 164 comments and an account with only 687 subscribers. Every other video on their YouTube account (teasers) have less than 1k views. It might be the case that the video is targeted as a YouTube advert and attracting views in that way.

An interesting tactic for a German company to form a UK girl group to try and break Germany? I mean, cracking mainland Europe and then the UK isn't an unheard strategy. Lady Gaga was first promoted all over Europe before they launched her properly in the UK, as an example.
January 4, 20223 yr I don't think a bunch of British girls being signed by a German company with a seemingly specific intention to crack Germany is the same stategy as that though. Gaga = US artist/label/management and team, with the groundwork of her career occurring in the US... then there was focus on breaking through all over the world... and the UK happened to be left until quite late, maybe because our system back then was the increasingly archaic "held back release after weeks of build up" which died off in most countries early on in the download era.
January 4, 20223 yr Author I could see their long-term plans being breaking them in the UK though. It's obvious that they know there's a gap in the market, but it might be easier to get radio to pick them up if they're "big in Germany" or whatever.
January 5, 20223 yr This has got over 30,000 plays in 1 day on Spotify. Is that good considering they are a new group and focusing on the Germany market for the moment. It takes approx 109k to make the German top 50.
July 10, 20223 yr Author Well, they've released their second single now, Amplifier: NoPHTs22H4Y It's ok, but not really breakthrough material. The video is kind of dreadful though. I could see people who like The Saturdays liking this basic bop though. Edited July 10, 20223 yr by tommie
July 10, 20223 yr The second single is much better than that DIRE cover of a dire song. Thry are trying for a second Saturdays. They should have jsut called thrm The Sundays tbh, ans gone down the full S Club Juniors route. God, they have zero charisma and those videos... Omf, we have now OFFICIALLY arrived at a time when people can cover 1999s songs!! Early Britney covers, Genie in a Bottle, Geri Halliwell and Victoria songs?! Maybe they can only cover less-known songs, as the recording quality in the 90s was already really high, so what wouls bw the point in covers?
