Ski Sunday started again yesterday which heralds the start of the 2022 season! Will definitely need to catch up with that, although according to the episode description it includes a section from 'iconic British freeskier Gus Kenworthy' - they're definitely making the most out of his change of nationality!

Marco Odermatt is apparently leading the World Cup standings (that started in October) for the men, surprised me a bit given it only seems a second since he was being portrayed as the 'quite good underdog' on shows like Ski Sunday! Nice to see him doing well anyway.

Mikaela Shiffrin has also contracted Covid which means she couldn't get to Borneo - Vlova and Tessa Worley won races there, I bet they were secretly delighted

Johannes Strolz won the Slalom in Adelboden from Bib No. 38!!!! Well done to him, particularly as he's not in the Austrian skiing team and had to prepare his own skis.

(For those not in the know, it's generally a foregone conclusion that you don't win from Bib 38 - the bib numbers are roughly related to world rankings and eyebrows would be raised if anyone over Bib 7 were to win)

This year's Wengen downhill was won by Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr - to a lot of boos and hisses from the Swiss crowd! (apparently he'd only just recovered from Covid and was allowed in controversially, although fair to say he's been overshadowed by a different Covid-related issue :kink:). Well done to him though, and good to see Slovenian Martin Cater get a rare Top 10.

Dave Ryding has won Britain's first alpine skiing World Cup gold medal with victory in the Kitzbuhel Slalom.

Ryding, 35, was on Friday named in Great Britain's squad for the Beijing Winter Olympics - his fourth Games.

His two runs clocked in at one minute and 41.26 seconds, 0.38 seconds ahead of Lucas Braathen, with fellow Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen third.

Ryding sat sixth after his first run of 51.40 seconds but claimed gold with a brilliant second effort of 49.86.

Fantastic result for Ryding! Granted he was helped by three of the five riders ahead of him after Run 1 DNFing and the other two making rather large errors, but nonetheless it's great to see him back on top form and a huge milestone for British alpine sports.

Indeed a huge milestone for British alpine sports. The Slalom is a complete lottery at times.
They showed the Schladming world cup race on Ski Sunday this week - a fantastic race, so many different people looked like they could win! Great to see Billy Major get his first World Cup points as well, finishing in 18th.

Figure skater Kamila Valieva is set to return to competition this weekend in Russia - with a doping case still hanging over her.

The 15-year-old crashed out of medal contention in the women's singles at February's 2022 Winter Olympics.

She was allowed to compete despite a failed drugs test coming to light after she had helped the Russian Olympic Committee win the team event.

Valieva is set to compete in the Channel One Cup in Saransk.

It is a Russian-only event organised to clash with the World Championships.

Britain's Charlotte Bankes has won a gold medal at the Snowboard Cross World Cup in Cervinia, Italy.

The 27-year-old, who won five out of eight World Cups last season, also secured bronze on Friday after failing to make the podium on the opening weekend in France.

It was defending champion Bankes' 10th victory in Cervinia.

Australian teenager Josie Baff, 19, claimed silver, while 28-year-old Chloe Trespeuch of France took bronze.
