I’m interested to know fans views on chart moments which surprised or shocked you. There are a few that stand out for me;

Can’t get you out of my head - Never expected the song to be as big as it was on the back of her successful light years album

Word is out - 1st single to miss the T10.

Some kind of bliss - Completely missed the T20 and lowest position for a Kylie single at that time. More shocking as it was the first single from the album.

Never too late - first single to stall outside T3. Deserved to do better as great song and remember it moved to no2 on Pepsi chart.

I've only closely followed her chart career since 2000, but I'd say...

- 'In My Arms' scraping top 10 after starting off at #12 in the midweeks

- 'The One' being denied a potential top 10/top 15 chart position because of cancelling the physical days beforehand and therefore being lumbered with a #36

- 'Dancing' making the top 40 as I thought she'd never get another top 40 hit again.

- 'Body Language' missing the top 5, although that was a bloodbath of a week.

I dunno, from 2000-2010 it was easy to assume each single release would go top 10 as fans always rushed to collect each CD single from the shops on week 1. Her decline in the charts from then on was kind of understandable, although painful to watch.

Put Yourself In My Place -

I really thought this was going to be a sure fire smash and it would be what the public wanted from Kylie however it stalled at #11 and seems barely remembered :drama: One of my faves still today

Some Kind Of Bliss -

I loved this (and still do) and was horrified when it stalled at #22 and fell out of the Top 40 the following week

GBI -

The fact this even made the Top 75, love this quirky tune but didn’t think at the time it would come close to charting

Slow -

The fact that it got to #1, I hated it when I first heard it and although I duly went out and bought all the formats I was shocked it made the top spot

Santa Baby -

The fact that it was originally a b-side and used as a promo CD that was sent out to say Happy Christmas to media outlets at the time has gone on to become a Top 40 platinum single

Album

Rhythm Of Love -

That it ‘only’ reached #9 following on from 2 huge #1 albums

I would agree with body language only peaking at no6 on the back of Fever and rhythm of love only getting to no9.

I agree with both of these too.

Dancing achieving Top 40 status felt huge.

Taking from other posters... These...

Real surprise at the time; didn't expect this at all

Although it was very different for her, I didn't think it would fail so miserably

'Body Language' missing the top 5

Slow - The fact that it got to #1, I hated it when I first heard it

I didn't quite get why she'd go from the all-out pop of Fever and the singles from it, to Slow (which I really didn't like) and the rather lacklustre Body Language - but I didn't expect the album to miss the Top 5 when Fever had been so big

Adding my own...

Spinning Around making No.1 - I thought Kylie was over after the two DeCon albums, so it was a full-on surprise that she went back to No.1

On the back of that, Light Years being such a return to pop-dom!! I felt it was a good move, and commercially it was so successful, but I didn't expect the U-Turn

I agree with what others have posted, some kind of bliss not going top 20 was awful at the time, i was completely shocked and disappointed with its debut. With hits plus i was slightly surprised ina disappointed way it missed the top 40 , i was so annoyed with number 41 at the time.
I don't think Kylie herself wanted Hits+ to be released, it was a complete cash-in from a previous label so I can find solace in its chart position.

Yeah, she attempted to block it for a bit but then provided This Girl in exchange of them not releasing it in the week of Light Years.

Ya I do remember something about kylie not supporting it all but it was more it was so close to going top 40 that disappointed me ad charted without her support.

It was a similar situation with the disappointing best of release missing the top 10.

Kids missing Number 1 was surprising as both Kylie and Robbie were hugely popular and I think many felt it was a surefire Number 1.
Red Blooded Woman only making #5

Was it that surprising? I mean, that was a really busy week which included 'Toxic' and 'Cha Cha Slide', plus the album had already been out. I don't know if the realistic expectations were any higher than top 5 (which is hardly bad)

I do forget all the lovers didnt go too 10 in aussie. The general reaction to the aphrodite singles in aussie was strange, both better than today and put your hands up having higher peaks than get outta my way.
Todays midweek number 14 for Disco is now on this list for me.

I would welcome many more Kylie chart surprises such as this.

Chocolate reaching no6 was a surprise for me. I didn’t expect it to make the T10.

Disco was only no66 on Tuesday in midweeks so don’t know how it’s managed to be no14 today but excellent news!
