Posted December 15, 200618 yr Ciara replaces Incubus atop US albums chart 15 December 2006 - 09:48:05 In like a lion and out like a lamb: Californian alt-rockers Incubus roared to the top of the US album chart last week with Light Grenades, but their first number one makes a precipitous dip to number 37 this week, its sales slumping 65% week-on-week in a market which grows 27.8%, energised by the approach of Christmas, writes Alan Jones. The album sold 56,851 copies last week, and registers the hastiest retreat from number one in 61 years of album chart history by a wide margin; the previous biggest dip from number one came in 2003 when Marilyn Manson’s The Golden Age Of The Grotesque slid 1-21. Replacing Incubus at number one, R&B singer Ciara registers her first number one with Evolution debuting in pole position on sales of 338,447. Her 2004 debut Goodies peaked at number three. Eminem Presents: The Re-Up also makes a big debut. The album, not an Eminem solo set but one that spotlights the remainder of his Shady roster, sold 308,804 copies to take second place. Gwen Stefani’s Sweet Escape completes an all-new top three, debuting in third place on sales of 242,671, and instantly beating the peak position of her debut solo set, Love.Angel.Music.Baby, which reached number five. American Idol contestant (Chris) Daughtry retreats 3-7 with debut set Daughtry, although its sales are off less than 1% from 155,510 to 155,021. The only other albums in the Top 30 to register negative growth are Jay-Z’s Kingdom Come, off 27% and down 6-15 on sales of 101,487; and fellow rapper Snoop Dogg’s Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, dipping 12-28 on sales of 69,016, a 24% dip week-on-week. The Beatles continue to lead the Brit pack, well over 36 years since their disbandment, slipping 5-8 despite sales climbing 4% to 151,731. On the Hot 100 singles chart, Beyonce continues at number one with Irreplaceable, while Eminem secures the highest debut of his career with You Don’t Know, a number 12 arrival which also features Lloyd Banks, 50 Cent and Cashis.
