Posted January 27, 20223 yr I'll be starting this soon once I've sorted through 90+ songs. It's weird to think 2006 was 16 years ago now but it was one of my fave years for music ever and also didn't join Buzzjack until the next year so I'm just going to put together what would be my top 50 of that year. (There will be some big hits missing because hot take... I found them overrated or was never keen on them oops)

January 28, 20223 yr Love quite a few of those - the PCD tracks, Fly, and Sleepwalking (SUCH an underrated song!!)
January 28, 20223 yr Author 50 James Morrison - You Give Me Something UZp6dhheriM Lead single from James Morrison's huge debut album Undiscovered, peaked at #5 in July.. there's still another appearance from him to come so it's not his best that year for me but a solid lead. 49 Pussycat Dolls Ft Will i Am - Beep 1r9ghI7YcL0 Pussycat Dolls teamed up with Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.I.am for the boppy 'Beep', a big top 3 hit from early in the year. The song was another success following the two other big hits before it .Stickwitu' and 'Don't Cha' which both would feature in my 2005 songs somewhere. Edited February 7, 20223 yr by Roba.
January 28, 20223 yr Author 48 Simon Webbe - After All This Time p7L0LJCzXbE Another boy band member now shows up as Simon Webbe from Blue, perhaps the most successful of all the members career wise comes 48th with 'After All This Time'. The song wasn't quite as big reaching only 16 and hanging around a few weeks but it was very underrated by him I find. 47 Richard Ashcroft - Break The Night With Colour vbfgKANU2J0 From right at the beginning of 2006, peaking at number 3 in January we have The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft with the amazing 'Break The Night With Colour. I can't recall very much else from his solo wise although I do know he had decent success on and off but this was stand out for me. 46 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow (Hey Oh) p0vM9iINl28 Red Hot Chili Peppers burst back onto the scene with new music in 2006 after a 3 year break and treated fans to a 2 disc album. From it we have 'Snow (Hey Oh)' which charted in the winter period and peaked at 16. The same position as their previous single 'Tell Me Baby' in fact. Edited February 7, 20223 yr by Roba.
January 29, 20223 yr Author Love quite a few of those - the PCD tracks, Fly, and Sleepwalking (SUCH an underrated song!!)  Thanks Joseph. It was yeah. Remember being shocked at Maria exiting that early and this was a decent debut although I can see why it wasn't bigger. I've got the album as well but going back to then even I don't think any of the other songs would be big or middling hits sadly. Certainly better than some of the other X Factor debut singles back then though excluding Shayne. Edited January 29, 20223 yr by Roba.
January 29, 20223 yr Author 45 Beyoncé - Irreplaceable 2EwViQxSJJQ Follow up to Bey's #1 'Déjà Vu'.. 'Irreplaceable'. First proper ballad of hers that I rather enjoyed and it lands at 45th here and was a big top 3 hit in the winter. 44 David Egg vs The Egg - Love Don't Let Me Go/ Walking Away L0VmaJsPWbY Dance legend David Guetta next with his anthemic 'Love Don't Let Me' with a cool video involving break dancing to accompany it. 43 SrlhLaNClgw Lots of people will remember the tune but hands up if you remember Natalie Bassingthwaighte being from the soap Neighbours? This was a big breakthrough hit and turned out to be not to many's surprise their only hit although a follow up single peaked low top 40 and then Rogue Traders weren't to be heard of again. January 29, 20223 yr Author 42 Keane - Is It Any Wonder fVe_KVzBFOo The mostly excellent Keane next with the huge 'Is It Any Wonder', literally this year was all about indie wasn't it really. Great track and another good video too. 41 Simon Webbe - Coming Around Again yS9PCBtMuW4 Anyone would think I liked Simon Webbe's solo output lol. Well that would be right and this was a more upbeat one compared to AATT. I remember the week it was out wanting it to go top 10 only to be a disappointed it only peaked at #12 in the end and it was the lead single from his 2nd album too although I think I remember it being a big week in general so maybe that'll be why. Deserved top 10 for sure imo. 40 Paolo Nutini - Last Request CkA4xcIAvuw aaannd we arrive at the top 40 with a man who will making his long awaited return this year.. Paolo Nutini with his fab debut track 'Last Request'. It's a song I've covered in fact as I did do some vocal recordings having been to music college and this one went down a storm live too at my college. Great singalong song. 39 Orson - No Tomorrow UUmH4rr8vq0 Next up we have ORSON. Who remembers them outside of this track? Well me as this isn't their last appearance. 'No Tomorrow' holds the distinction of lowest selling UK Number 1 here in the UK. I had really only just got back into following the charts from the beginning of 2006 so to see this initially peak at #5 only to keep climbing to #1 weeks later actually wasn't too common back then really. February 4, 20223 yr Author 38 RAejxjC_PBs Stomping tune from The Darkness pops up next with the hilarious wedding videi with Justin Hawkins marrying himself  my Dads fave X (hates him really) 37 ZaI2IlHwmgQ Black Eyed Peas are pumping it up at 37, a big top 3 hit! Edited February 4, 20223 yr by Roba.
February 4, 20223 yr Author 36 4pBo-GL9SRg Controversially I wasn't a fan of either 'Maneater' or 'Promiscuous Girl' but this Chris Martin co write single for Nelly won me over and became her 3rd consecutive top 5 hit of the year. 35 bJ0Av3doYVc Here we have the actual last appearance for Orson with their follow up single 'Bright Idea', annoyingly it peaked at #11 which was a shame at the time but they were really lucky to get 3 more hits really. I always preferred this one more than NT anyway and it's position here proves just that.
February 5, 20223 yr Hey Rob, I expect plenty of my faves will end up here. 'Pump It' is a mega bop and 'All Good Things' is beautiful - I had no idea Chris Martin co-wrote it!
February 5, 20223 yr Author 34 Xsp3_a-PMTw 33 Pgum6OT_VH8 Double Muse here with hits off their massive selling album Black Holes and Revelations. 'Supermassive Black Hole' still remains Muse's highest charting single with a peak of 4 and I believe the only top 5 for them but I could be wrong. 'Starlight' peaked at 13 and is the preferred one of the two but I like both equally hence why they are lumped together.
February 5, 20223 yr Author 32 SlQaDBUjswI Kelly Clarkson is in at 32 with the wonderful 'Breakaway'. It was the 5th song to be taken off the album of the same name and Avril was tagged as a writer on the track too. It didn't fare too well in the UK when it was released as as a single missing the top 20 along with the song before it which will be coming up later. It did however reach a very high peak of #6 in the US! 31 o7X3LYGV_N8 In the midst of the popular Indie domination we had The Automatic with WHAT'S THAT LOOKING OVER THE HILL IS IT A MONSTER, IS IT A MONSTAAAA.. couldn't resist that but yeah 'Monster' was a big top 5 hit for them after a couple of low top 40's.
February 5, 20223 yr Author Recap 31-50 31 The Automatic - Monster 32 Kelly Clarkson - Breakway 33 Muse - Starlight 34 Muse - Supermassive Black Hole 35 Orson - Bright Idea 36 Nelly Furtado- All Good Things (Come To An End) 37 Black Eyed Peas - Pump It 38 The Darkness - Is It Just Me? 39 Orson - No Tommorow 40 Paolo Nutini - Last Request 41 Simon Webbe - Coming Around Again 42 Keane- Is It Any Wonder? 43 Rogue Traders - Vodoo Child 44 David Guetta VS The Egg - Love Dont Let Me Go 45 Beyonce - Irreplaceable 46 Richard Ashcroft - Break The night With Colours 47 Simon Webbe - After All This Time 48 Pussycat Dolls - Beep 49 James Morrison - You Give Me Something 50 Matt Willis - Don't Let It Go To Waste
February 7, 20223 yr Author 30 OuoaKai_L00 James Morrison had a massive breakthrough year in 2006 and the 2nd single from it was 'Wonderful World' which is my favourite of his evidently. What's not to like about it though, so breezy and feel good and puts you in a positive mood listening to it. 29 6LPqkAyICO8 The first Sugababes song to feature newcomer at the time Amelle Berrabah who was replacing longtime member Mutya Buena who left to forge a solo career. It's was the quite the introduction for Amelle and the other ladies Heidi and Keisha though as they showed up and showed out with this sassy pop tune 'Red Dress'! Edited February 7, 20223 yr by Roba.
February 7, 20223 yr Author 28 OZpWnuzVlxk Will Young has got 2 appearance in my EOY for 2006, the first coming in the form of 'All Time Love'. Possibly his best slow effort for me. The lyrics and the video have a lot of depth to it and it certainly captured my interest when it was a huge hit for him right at the start of the year. 27 RRKJiM9Njr8 Perhaps one of the most shocking #1's I can ever tell came in the form of My Chemical Romance with 'Welcome To The Black Parade'. A statement song from a band that wasn't really setting the charts alight to massively with their previous era.. I would know as my sister was playing several of them. It was also unique at the time for a rock song like this to top the UK Chart too, especially in amongst loads of pop and dance music but I guess you could say the plethora of indie invading the chart certainly bennefited MCR a lot. It still feels surreal especially when Shakira, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Scissor Sisters had all been #1 before this took over. More amazingly it spent 2 weeks at #1 as well. 26 DUT5rEU6pqM Maybe a surprise to some considering it was one of the biggest hits of 2006 and I am a fan of hers is Shakira coming in at 26 with 'Hips Don't Lie'. It had help from Wyclef Jean as well and rewarded Shakira with her first ever UK #1. Truth be told this isn't the best thing she's done for me as 'Wherever Whenever' and 'Underneath Your Clothes' were better overall imo and even another hit of hers is coming up in the next post but this was fun song nonetheless and was very deserving of being #1 for her. February 7, 20223 yr Author Hey Rob, I expect plenty of my faves will end up here. 'Pump It' is a mega bop and 'All Good Things' is beautiful - I had no idea Chris Martin co-wrote it! Oh yeah I didn't know about that for a long time tbh either. Just trying to imagine him singing it... :kink: wouldn't work lol Nelly was the right person for it and 'Pump It' is a huge bop indeed. The video is great to boot too. Thanks Jordan. I think some will be showing up soon hopefully that are massive faves.. or at least I hope :teresa:
February 7, 20223 yr Author As a interruption to this countdown now I'm going to post some of my worst songs of 2006. Yes there will be some major hot take and eyebrow raising reactions I'm sure but without further ado... the following listed are.. Fall Out Boy - Sugar We're Goin Down Fall Out Boy - Dance Dance Fedde Le Grande - Put Your Hands Up For Detroit Chris Brown - Run It Razorlight - In The Morning Rihanna - We Ride The Zutons - Why Don't You Give Me Your Love The Zutons - Valerie (I didn't like Mark and Amy's version at first but that grew on me as time went on) CHICO - D.I.S.C.O. (Chicotime for as awful it is is at least awful in a guilty pleasure way for me whereas this was just crap) Lazytown - Bing Bang (Time To Dance) I think that's it, probably forgotten some other ones.
February 7, 20223 yr Absolutely loved James Morrison's debut album, 'Wonderful World' especially  and 'Breakaway' was a massive highlight from Kelly's biggest era! 'Welcome To The Black Parade' is one of the best rock #1s of all time, I'm still in awe that it got there *.*
