Will resume this this week. My laptop had a blue screen which made me concerned I'd lose my word document I'd saved my 2006 EOY on but thankfully nothing there was erased lol.

In the top 10 we have two appearances for 2 bands, 1 appearance for another two bands, one dance act, one icon, one female artist who made her debut in 1999 & another female that made her debut in 2000.

Starting off the top 10 and we have indie band Embrace with 'Nature's Law' a song which reached #2 but in reality should have been a number one. Not to say 'So Sick' was a bad song in it's own right because it wasn't but this would have been great for another indie band to top the UK Chart and also they never had one up to this stage so fingertips away from #1 was well... very unfortunate. The video is class to this though and the shots in the forest were very cool. Song is of course fab too.

The first of two Kooks tracks to drop off is 'Naive'. The Brighton based band had a very successful 2006 all round bagging two top 10 hits in the UK as well as a 5 x platinum album in Inside In / Inside Out. The other big smash is still to come somewhere.

The Queen of Pop grabs a comfortable top 10 End of Finish with the fab 'Sorry'. Unpopular opinion but I actually prefer this over 'Hung Up' personally but both were strong singles to lead of her Confessions On A Dancefloor album era!

Hi Rob, big faves from me were Orson, Nelly Furtado, Black Eyed peas, but it's nice to see forgotten Simon Webbe's solo stuff getting some love - I got 4 free tickets to see his underselling concert around 2006 in Bournemouth, and couldn't get anyone I know to even agree to see him for nothing! So I had 4 seats to myself at a really good gig, he clearly wanted to be Lenny Kravitz or Prince, I suspect his solo material was a compromise with his record label and the Blue perception.

At 7 we have the final Red Hot Chili Peppers song and it comes from their biggest hit from that era and one of their highest peaking hits ever in the form of 'Dani California'. It was certainly a funny video with the band mimicking old rock bands with wigs and outfits rocking out having a good time and adding in several state droppings in there too what with Louisiana, Indiana and of course California being mentioned in the lyrics. Classic.

Last stop before the top 5 and The Kooks place 6th with 'She Moves In Her Own Way', a feel good indie banger singalong song.

Hey John, yes I'm glad not everyone has forgotten Simon's material. I'm pretty sure if you asked many about if they can recall any of his songs they'd probably just about say 'No Worries' probably lol. Aha that's awesome. I'm sure he'd be a decent act live tbh.

Oh yes I'm pretty sure I've heard the original but no more than say 2 times I think haha. Glad you don't dislike anything! Thanks for both the comments.

Written as an emotional tribute to her father 'Hurt' by Christina Aguilera lands at 5. It is a raw, heart wrenching ballad and in fact one of her purest sounding songs as she didn't really release a whole load of ballads up to this point (The Voice Within being the only one before) and it made it to #11 in the UK chart serving as the 2nd single from Back to Basics. This is definitely one of the many instances where a song absolutely should have had a top 10 peak.

The Feeling had a trumendous breakthrough year and were evidently my favourite band of 2006. 'Never Be Lonely' which is number 4 here means they are still in the running for my song of the year with one more song.

oh... and they aren't my #1 as the final Feeling track falls out at 3rd. 'Fill My Little World' is a happy, feel good radio tune and the video features them playing in a aquarium. The song peaked at 10 giving them their 2nd consecutive top 10 hit following 'Sewn' and along with 'Never Be Lonely' peaking at #9 after it. In fact The Feeling were one of the few indie ish bands of that year which was heavily indie/rock dominated to score 3 UK Top 10 hits. The song did near the beginning of it's chart run also land at and stay at 16 for a whole month.

We are now at the final hurdle and missing out but a very strong candidate for song of the year for me if it wasn't for the song at #1, in fact it absolutely would be my number one otherwise is Cascada with their euro dance floorfiller 'Everytime We Touch'. The song was a huge obsession for me ever since I first saw the video on the music channels during the summer. It went on to become a massive hit peaking at #2 officially as well and lasting a lengthy 18 weeks in the top 40. People mistaken the female single Natalie Horler as being just Cascada when that's not fact as there's two DJ's that comprise them and one of them is Yanou who collborated with DJ Sammy. They do have their fair share of haters which I have come across but I guess cheesy dance music to some I can see why even though I'm a sucker for this sound personally and also Natalie CAN sing too which has long been downplayed in the past lol.

WHICH LEAVES THE NUMBER ONE AND IT IS......................... PINK!!!

So it's Pink (surprise? maybe not if you saw my 250 favourite noughties songs thread from 2013 where she was 2 behind 2005's 'Because of You'). What can you say about this though. 'Who Knew' is a stunning and emotional song which I believe was written about a friend of hers that took their life. The lyrics 'I'll keep you locked in my head, till we meet again' which is quite evident really. It's a nice video too as Pink hair is wavy, curlystyle with a tinge of pink mixed in that blondeness whilst she's walking around a theme park. As basic and simple video but it serves it's purpose well. This isn't just the best song of 2006 for me but is Pink's best song only followed very very closely by 'Just Like A Pill'. It's brilliant!
