There are 6 songs for North Macedonia's very small national final and they're not hanging about, songs were revealed last night and the entry's being chosen next Friday.

 

 

Unfortunately they're all AWFUL.

 

Superman is the only one with a slight chance of not fading into the background and even then I'd bet against it qualifying.

They're all just so... basic. Like they feel like mid-2000's Disney Channel without the nostalgia or the magic that even made it nostalgic in the first place.

 

Superman falls into the "so bad it's good" category, the verses are AWFUL but it's paired with this big room beat that makes it a giant parody of itself and it WORKS. I just hope the artist doesn't take it too seriously bc a meme song is only good when you're in on the joke.

I feel like they might as well go the fun/novelty route if they're destined to NQ either way. I'm here for Superman as long as he wears a superhero costume on stage.

 

Circles and Flowers of Sorrow aren't too bad, any of these will need quite a revamp but I think they're better than either of Vasil's offerings tbh.

Flower of Sorrow is just about the only one that I'd describe as "salvageable" - if it was me I'd be tempted to pull a Moldova 2013 and change the lyrics to Macedonian and then you'd have a medium sized balkan ballad.

I had hope but it just looks like all the artists have been told to put their song up on their own channels instead.

My ratings:

 

1. Superman (7.5/10)

2. Flower of Sorrow (7/10)

3. Circles (6/10)

4. Love and Light (5/10)

5. Dreams (5/10)

6. Flying to Berlin (3/10)

 

Overall: 5.58/10

Top 5 rating: 6.1/10

 

Most of them have great melody and motifs but none of them seem to be able to do a proper buildup and a memorable chorus backed by more emphatic instrumentation which is a shame. They all probably need a better composer who could do the latter two. This means if they hire a more experienced producer like what Albania did last year, North Macedonia may have a chance to qualify.

 

On the other hand, Superman is the best produced song and is very catchy so please send this, thank you very much.

"Circles" has just been chosen, apparently there was a tie with "Superman" and the jury was the tiebreak.

 

Would've preferred "Superman" for the fun but I don't mind this. It makes me think of Roxen only not awful.

Circles definitely need a revamp with the production. Currently the buildup and the chorus are quite weak. Hopefully, that will be changed as this song has potential.

mmm I could grow to like this, at least she's putting it all in on the emo

 

just a shame that the song doesn't really have a great tempo and it gets boring quite quickly
