55. Maria Lawson - Sleepwalking

On March 6, 2006 Maria (who finished 7th in X-Factor Series 2) announced that she had signed to the Phonogenic branch of the Sony BMG record label. Her debut single, "Sleepwalking", was released on 14 August and has already been well received by media sources. BBC Radio 2 have "A-listed" the track (putting it on heavy rotation).

On 20 August 2006, Sleepwalking entered the UK chart at number 20.

Lyrics:

You see them on the corner in the morning

Barely seem to be awake

Praying that they won't be late

You know they're in the office when you're calling

Head inside a magazine

Wishing they could live their dream

Sleepwalking through your destiny

Dream talking of how it used to be

The future's just a memory

But it's all you got

Can't stop the clock

The wall revolves and you can't get out

One by one the dreams are gone

Today you're the lonely one

Free from all you've wished yourself

Thought you'd left you on the shelf.

How could this be history?

When the future seemed to be

Brighter than the stars above

Full of hope and full of love.

Walking through the door with the TV on

Children running round your feet

Fast forward to you're asleep

And every days the same and you don't know why

You promise that you'll never be

Everything that you now see

Sleepwalking walking through your destiny

Dream talking of how it used to be

But it's all you got

Can't stop the clock

The wall revolves and you can't get out

One by one the dreams are gone

Today you're the lonely one

Free from all you've wished yourself

Thought you'd left you on the shelf.

How could this be history?

When the future seemed to be

Brighter than the stars above

Full of hope and full of love.

So follow your dreams

No matter how extreme

Really live your life (yeh)

Cos your life is in your hands

Don't take no other plans

You can do it if you just believe you can.

Chorus x2

54. Lily Allen - Littlest Things

"Littlest Things" is a pop/R&B song written by Lily Allen, Mark Ronson, Pierre Bachelet, Herve Roy and produced by Mark Ronson. It was the third song released from Allen's debut album Alright, Still. It was released as a digital download on December 4, 2006, and it's CD single release date was December 11, 2006 in the UK. It was confirmed by Lily Allen live on the Chris Moyles Show on Radio 1 in September 2006, and by Amazon.

The single made its debut at number fifty-three in the UK charts, which was extremely poor compared to the results of her other two singles. Smile debuted at number one and LDN debuted at number twenty seven; both breaking the top thirty. This poor debut was due to the single only being available digitally during its first week of release; in its second week on the charts, it moved up thirty-two places to number twenty-one.

Review:

She's been one of the most entertaining people to arrive in 2006, but already there's a bit of a Lily backlash in the air. For all those who've got her down as a one trick pony, have a listen to Littlest Things.

Lily's "only love song", in her own words, is a beautifully planitive piano ballad reminiscing about a broken relationship. The usually acutely observed lyrics are present and correct, although this is a much more gentle and poignant tale than the rather vicious Smile.

The everyday minutiae of a relationship is beautifully captured - from lying in bed drinking tea to "discovering your dirty grotty magazines", all set to a heartbreakingly poignant tune that sticks in your head for days. Very special indeed from one of the year's brightest stars.

I love that Maria Lawson song

It will no doubt be in my fave singles of the year chart high up :kink:

53. Madonna - Jump

"Jump" is the fourth single from Madonna's latest album, Confessions on a Dance Floor. The song was written by Madonna, Joe Henry and Stuart Price. Jump was released in the U.S. on November 7, 2006 and on November 6, 2006 in the UK (It peaked at UK#9). The song was also released on iTunes in the U.S. on October 24, 2006.

The song was featured in the motion picture adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada along with another Madonna song, "Vogue". "Jump", unlike "Vogue" was not included on the soundtrack of the film when it was released.

Lyrics:

There's only so much you can learn in one place

The more that I wait, the more time that I waste

I haven't got much time to waste, it's time to make my way

I'm not afraid of what I'll face, but I'm afraid to stay

I'm going down my own road and I can make it alone

I'm working, I'm fighting, I'll find a place of my own

Chorus:

Are you ready to jump

Get ready to jump

Don't ever look back, oh baby

Yes, I'm ready to jump

Just take my hands

Get ready to jump

We learned our lesson from the start, my sisters and me

The only thing you can depend on is your family

And life's gonna drop you down like the limbs of a tree

It sways and it swings and it bends until it makes you see

Chorus2:

Are you ready to jump

Get ready to jump

Don't ever look back, oh baby

Yes, I'm ready to jump

Just take my hands

Get ready to, are you ready

(Spoken:)

There's only so much you can learn in one place

The more that you wait, the more time that you waste

I'm working, I'm fighting, I'll find a place of my own

It sways and it swings and it bends until you make it your own

I can make it alone

I can make it alone

I can make it alone [my sisters and me]

I can make it alone [my sisters and me]

(repeat)

52. Robbie Williams - Lovelight

"Lovelight" is a pop song originally written and performed by Lewis Taylor for his 2003 album Stoned, Pt. 1. In 2006, the song was covered by British singer Robbie Williams. It was produced by Mark Ronson, and was released as the second single from Williams' tenth solo album, Rudebox, in the fourth quarter of 2006.

"Lovelight" debuted at number twenty-eight on the UK singles chart, a week before its physical single release (it peaked at UK#8). The song debuted on the Download Chart at number twenty-five, before peaking at number fifteen.

The album on which Lovelight is featured, Rudebox, made number one in both the UK and Australia.

Tellingly in my countdown, their are two Guy Chambers (Robbie's former songwriting partner) songs & Take That above Robbie in my chart.

Lyrics:

What am I supposed to do

To keep from going under

Now you're making holes in my heart

And yes it's starting to show

I've been holding back

Is it any wonder

Since you walked right into my life

And interrupted my flow

And I wanna know

Baby when you're with me

Who do you think you're fooling

Making me feel so sure

Turnin' your lovelight down again

Why don't you let me be

You don't know what you're doing

Making me feel so sure

Turning your lovelight down again

(do it again, do it again)

Baby I've got to know

Are we gonna make it

Laying down beside me tonight

Do whatever you feel

Baby you're in control

Where you gonna take it

Don't you think that I do you right

You know darn well that I will

And I wanna know

Baby when you're with me

Who do you think you're fooling

Making me feel so sure

Turnin your lovelight down again

Why don't you let me be

You don't know what you're doing

Making me feel so sure

Turning your lovelight down again

(Do it again, Do it again)

(Do it again, Do it again)

Baby you turn the lovelight down

And I don't know

Just how long I can stick around

Girl I need more

And it ain't just physical

But I don't know what I can do

'Cause I found

It ain't love this time around

Keep turning down your lovelight

Do it again

Keep turning down your lovelight

Do it again

Keep turning down your lovelight

Do it again

Keep turning down your lovelight

Do it again

Keep turning down your lovelight

Do it again

Keep turning down your lovelight

Do it again

Baby when you're with me

Who do you think you're fooling

Making me feel so sure

Turnin' your lovelight down again

Why don't you let me be

You don't know what you're doing

Making me feel so sure

Turning your lovelight down again

Baby when you're with me

Who do you think you're fooling

Making me feel so sure

Turnin' your lovelight down again

Why don't you let me be

You don't know what you're doing

Making me feel so sure

Turning your lovelight down again

Baby when you're with me

Who do you think you're fooling

Making me feel so sure

Turnin' your lovelight down again

Why don't you let me be

You don't know what you're doing

Making me feel so sure

Turning your lovelight down again

Baby when you're with me

Who do you think you're fooling

Making me feel so sure

Turnin' your lovelight down again

Why don't you let me be

You don't know what you're doing

Making me feel so sure

Turning your lovelight down again

51. New Young Pony Club - Ice Cream

New Young Pony Club are a five-piece electropop band from London, UK, formed in late 2003. They recently toured with singer Lily Allen. The group's name, according to lead vocalist Tahita Bulmer, derives partially from that of an Irish band, Pony Club, describing New Young Pony Club as "a newer, younger and kinkier Pony Club".

Their song "Ice Cream" was originally released 18-Sep-2006 but failed to chart. It is featured in a commercial for Intel Core 2 processors and is due for re-release 15-Jan-2007, with the album to follow a week later.

Review:

Hot on the heals of previous limited 7†single ‘The Get Go’, New Young Pony Club (NYPC) return with ‘Ice Cream’, a sparsely minimal punk funk jerkout that sounds like a distaff version excursion on disco-era Rolling Stones fronted by the Slits’ Ari Up and produced by David Byrne and Brian Eno. Partly inspired by LCD Soundsystem and a chance meeting of like-minded band members intent on establishing something potent, Andy and Tahita formed NYPC in 2005. A five-piece comprising of Tahita (vocals), Andy (guitar), Igor (bass) Lou (keyboards) and Sarah (drums), they provide the kind of tight and bass-heavy future discoid noise currently setting hairs on end up and down the country. Ice Cream, their first single on Modular, is already causing a stir online with fans creating myspace pages with lyrics taken from the provocative song. “A lot of [the lyrics are] about the perceived idea of how women are supposed to be, and putting my twist on it.†Says Tahita. NYPC have quietly set their world alight with a swell blend of disco, pop and punk which they are currently distilling into a debut album for Modular. Undoubtedly, one of THE bands to watch for 2007.

50. P!nk - Stupid Girls

"Stupid Girls" is a pop-rock song written by billymann, P!nk, Niklas Olovson and Robin Mortensen Lynch, and produced by billyman and MachoPsycho for P!nk's fourth album I'm Not Dead (2006). It was released as the album's first single in 2006 and entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart on the week of February 25 at number twenty-four, the week's highest debut and the highest debut of P!nk's career. In the week of March 4 the single climbed to number thirteen, becoming P!nk's eighth top twenty single in the United States. On the Australian ARIA Singles Chart it entered at number four and is certified platinum for sales of over 70,000; it peaked at the same position on the UK Singles Chart.

P!nk has explained that she noticed many young girls near her Los Angeles home aspire to the hypersexual personae of female pop icons, rather than careers or talents. She was inspired to write "Stupid Girls", in which she deplores the lack of good role models for girls while encouraging them to cultivate independence. "There's a certain thing the world is being fed, and my point is there should be a choice", P!nk said.

P!nk said the song was "brought on by several conversations I've had with women and girls. Women have fought so long and hard for our rights and equality, and now all our attention is put on being a size 0", adding that some are "living vicariously through these people who seem to shop all day" rather than focusing on issues such as war and poverty. According to International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, the song "highlights the culture's relentless and unrealistic pursuit of thinness and unattainable drive for physical beauty". P!nk discussed what she called the "Stupid Girl epidemic" during an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The single has been nominated in the category of "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" at the 2007 Grammy Awards

Lyrics:

Stupid girl, stupid girls, stupid girls

Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back

Porno Paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

Go to Fred Segal, you'll find them there

Laughing loud so all the little people stare

Looking for a daddy to pay for the champagne

(Drop a name)

What happened to the dreams of a girl president

She's dancing in the video next to 50 Cent

They travel in packs of two or three

With their itsy bitsy doggies and their teeny-weeny tees

Where, oh where, have the smart people gone?

Oh where, oh where could they be?

Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back

Porno Paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

Baby if I act like that, flipping my blond hair back

Push up my bra like that, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

(Break it down now)

Disease's growing, it's epidemic

I'm scared that there ain't a cure

The world believes it and I'm going crazy

I cannot take any more

I'm so glad that I'll never fit in

That will never be me

Outcasts and girls with ambition

That's what I wanna see

Disasters all around

World despaired

Their only concern

Will they **** up my hair

Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back

Porno Paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

Baby if I act like that, flipping my blond hair back

Push up my bra like that, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

[interlude]

Oh my god you guys, I totally had more than 300 calories

That was so not sexy, no

Good one, can I borrow that?

[Vomits]

I WILL BE SKINNY

(Do ya thing, do ya thing, do ya thing)

(I like this, like this, like this)

Pretty will you **** me girl, silly as a lucky girl

Pull my head and suck it girl, stupid girl!

Pretty would you **** me girl, silly as a lucky girl

Pull my head and suck it girl, stupid girl!

Baby if I act like that, flipping my blond hair back

Push up my bra like that, stupid girl!

Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back

Porno Paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

Baby if I act like that, flipping my blond hair back

Push up my bra like that, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

Lyrics:

Superstar Tradesman,

Stand at the bar,

Get a trade son,

You will go far.

You’ll have a house in the Ferry,

And a new guitar,

That’s never been played before,

And it never will,

Its never been played before,

And it never will.

The weather is sunny,

You’re locked inside,

The weather is sunny oh yes,

I’ve tried and I’ve tried,

To keep me sane, to keep me sane,

To keep me sane, to keep me sane.

I don’t want money,

I want happiness,

I don’t want cash and no,

I quite like memories,

To keep us on track,

Will never look back,

Keep us on track,

Lets never look back.

Ha, what would you do,

If I asked you,

What would you do,

If I asked you,

To sail away,

To see some sights,

Sail away with me,

To see some sights,

Sail away,

To see some sights.

Superstar Tradesman,

Stand at the bar,

Get a trade son,

You will go far.

You’ll have a house in the Ferry,

And a new guitar,

That’s never been played before,

And it never will,

Its never been played before,

And it never will.

48. Sandi Thom - Lonely Girl

"Lonely Girl" was the third single from Sandi Thom's debut album Smile... It Confuses People. The song was released on December 4 on digital download only.

Lyrics:

Sometimes see her down by the river

The water dances on her skin

She can captivate you with her eyes

But she never lets you in

In the dark she lingers

Like a tear without a soul

And ohhhh what a lonely girl

Trying to find her way

In this mixed up messed up world

And I see so many faces just like her

So many broken hearts in the world

And ohhhhh what a lonely, what a lonely girl

He said lately she's been watching the weather

The weather doesn't know what to do

'Cause sometimes when its cold outside

That's when she's feeling blue

He Said But I see through her sadness deep into her soul

All she wants to have is someone she can love to make whole

And ohhhh what a lonely girl

Trying to find her way

In this mixed up messed up world

And I see so many faces just like her

So many broken hearts in the world

And ohhhh what a lonely, what a lonely girl

Isn't it incredible?

Oh isn't it regrettable

She finds sweet love and then she let it go

And I see so many faces just like her

So many broken hearts in the world

And ohhhh what a lonely, what a lonely day

And ohhh what a lonely girl

Trying to find her way

In this mixed up messed up world

And I see so many faces just like her

So many broken hearts in the world

And ohhhh what a lonely, what a lonely girl

And ohhhh what a lonely, what a lonely girl

What can a poor boy do

Better go back to yr mama

She'll take care of you

Stay out drinking till the morning comes

Yeah

What can a poor boy do

Better go back to your mama

She'll take care of you

Take my hand

Lead me thru this diseased land

I have I have i have (no idea)

I have stole

I have sinned

Oh my soul

Its unclean

Country girl

Gotta keep on keeping on

Crazy women

Mess your head up

Wake up drunk and beaten

In some strange bed

Yeah

What can a poor boy do

Better go back to your mama

Shell take care of you

Country girl

Take my hand

Lead me thru this diseased land

I have I have i have

I have stole

I have sinned

Oh my soul

Its unclean

Country girl

Gotta keep on keeping on

Gotta keep on keeping on

Gotta keep on keeping strong

Gotta keep on keeping on

With you

Got the riot city blues

What do you have to say

Before i have to go

Be careful what you say

Youll reap just what you sow

Yeah

What can a poor boy do

Better go back to yr mama

Shell take care of you

One last time

Country girl

Take my hand

Lead me thru this diseased land

I have i have i have

I have stole

I have sinned

Oh my soul

Its unclean

Country girl

Gotta keep on keeping on

Country girl

Take my hand

Lead me thru this diseased land

I have sinned

Oh my soul

Its unclean

46. INXS - Afterglow

Afterglow is the second single from their new album Switch by Australian band INXS.

The song was written by Andrew Farriss, Desmond Child and album producer Guy Chambers. The lyrics reflect a person's respect for death and need to move on from the sorrow of loss, an obvious reference to the death of former lead singer Michael Hutchence.

The song consists of synth, strings, airy guitar and new lead singer J.D. Fortune (who won INXS's reality television show Rockstar: INXS). The song peaked at #24 in Australia.

During the 2006 Switched On Tour in Australia, the band dedicated this song to Steve Irwin.

Lyrics:

Here i am

Lost in the light of the moon

That comes through my window

Bathed in blue

The walls of my memory

Divides the thorns from the roses

It? you and the roses

Touch me and i will follow

In your afterglow

Heal me from all this sorrow

As i let you go

I will find my way

When i see your eyes

Now i? living

In your afterglow

Here i am

Lost in the ashes of time

But who owns tomorrow

In between

The longing to hold you again

I? caught in your shadow

I? losing control

My mind drifts away

We only have today

Touch me and i will follow

In your afterglow

Heal me from all this sorrow

As i let you go

I will find my way

I will sacrifice

Till that blinding day

When i see your eyes

Now i? living

In your afterglow

When the veils are gone

As i let you go

As i let you go

Touch me and i will follow

In your afterglow

Heal me from all this sorrow

As i let you go

I will find my way

I will sacrifice

Now i? living

In your afterglow

Bathed in blue

The walls of my memory

Divides the thorns from the roses

It? you who is closest

45. Basement Jaxx - Take Me Back To Your House

The second single from "Crazy Itch Radio" features vocals by Martina Bang. It debuted at UK#42 11th Nov 2006 and spent only one further week in the chart.

Review:

More of the same from Basement Jaxx perhaps, but when they're delivering the feelgood party vibes like they do on TAKE ME BACK TO YOUR HOUSE, who's really complaining?"

Taken from their CRAZY ITCH RADIO album, TAKE ME BACK TO YOUR HOUSE sees London dance duo Basement Jaxx at their usual upbeat dance/pop best; all feelgood party vibes and infectiously catchy choruses.

No big surprises there then, another uptempo pop tune that sounds custom built for daytime radio play. Obviously sticking to the formula thats worked for them so well in the past, this is more of the same from Basement Jaxx essentially, but fun and upbeat nonetheless. The country and western tinged TAKE ME BACK TO YOUR HOUSE is an impossibly catchy little number, infectious melodies tripping over bluegrass guitar licks and nifty samba beats, the sound of the maddest carnival ever.

More of the same from Basement Jaxx perhaps, but when they're delivering the feelgood party vibes like they do on TAKE ME BACK TO YOUR HOUSE, who's really complaining?

44. Kasabian - Empire

"Empire" is a song by British rock band Kasabian, and is the lead track to their second album, Empire. It was released 24 July 2006 as the lead single from that album on CD (see 2006 in British music). On 21 August 2006, a 10" and Maxi-CD versions of the single were released. The song was available as a pre-order on the band's website which also included a free download of their cover of David Bowie's "Heroes," which was used for ITV's coverage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Released 24 July 2006 this song peaked at UK#9.

The music video for "Empire" was directed by W.I.Z. with casting by Sorin Tarau, and featured on the DVD single. It portrays the members of Kasabian as soldiers during the Crimean War. The video was shot on location outside Bucharest.

Matching the strong anti-war message of the song, the "Empire" video presents a look of fiery death and destruction caused by the war, opening with a boy messenger getting shot in the back while delivering the band a message (as a reference to their song 'Shoot the Runner'), and concluding with the band themselves killed by their general when they refrain from entering the battlefield. The video closes with a sardonic use of the Latin phrase, "Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori", well-known as part of the famous anti-war poem written by First World War soldier Wilfred Owen.

43. Pet Shop Boys - I'm With Stupid

"I'm with Stupid" is a song by British synthpop band Pet Shop Boys and is featured on their 2006 album, Fundamental. It was released 8 May 2006 as the lead single from the album in the United Kingdom and the European Union (It peaked at UK#8).

Though ostensibly about a romantic relationship with a man perceived by the public as a "moron", the song has been acknowledged as being, on another level, about Tony Blair's beleaguered relationship with George W. Bush. The protagonist of the song is eventually brought to wonder if the other's stupidity might not be a front:

Is stupid really stupid

or a different kind of smart?

Do we really have a relationship

so special in your heart?

(See also special relationship as a term in international relations.)

It received its official first play 31 March on BBC Radio 2 and charted at number eight in the UK Singles Chart, becoming the duo's twenty-first UK top ten single. One of the single's B-sides, "The Resurrectionist", is about body-snatching in the English Regency era, carried out by people literally called "resurrectionists".

"I'm with Stupid" was performed on the 23 April 2006 episode of Top of the Pops, in the latest in a long series of Pet Shop Boys performances on the UK music program. The performance was planned to include six dancers, wearing masks depicting Blair's and Bush's faces. The BBC's editorial department objected, however, citing the need to be politically "impartial"; in the end, only one Blair mask and one Bush mask was used, with the remaining four masks replaced by ones depicting Bill Clinton, David Cameron, Menzies Campbell, and Vladimir Putin.

The video, filmed at Alexandra Palace in North London features David Walliams and Matt Lucas of Little Britain.

In the video, the duo stage a performance in which they play the roles of Tennant and Lowe and mime "I'm with Stupid" while dressed in Very-era outfits (mainly from the "Can you forgive her?" and "Go West" promotional campaigns). They are accompanied by a group of dancers, also dressed in similar costumes.

The video ends with Walliams and Lucas asking for the approval of the audience, which is revealed to be Tennant and Lowe themselves, bound to their seats.

My fave song by Sandi Thom & the Basement Jaxx song should have done well better than it did

42. Zutons - Valerie

Valerie was the second single from Liverpool's The Zutons' second album Tired of Hanging Around. Released 18 June 2006, the track peaked at UK#9 and spent 19 weeks on the chart.

Lyrics:

And I look across the water

And I think of all the things, what you're doing

And in my head I make a picture

:CHORUS:

Cos since I've come on home,

Well my body's been a mess

And I've missed your ginger hair

And the way you like to dress

Won't you come on over

Stop making a fool out of me

Why won't you come on over Valerie?

Did you have to go to jail,

Put your house up on for sale, did you get a good lawyer?

I hope you didn't catch a tan,

I hope you'll find the right man who'll fix it for ya

And are you shoppin' anywhere,

Changed the colour of you hair, are you busy?

And did you have to pay the fine

You were dodging all the time, are you still dizzy?

:CHORUS:

(Valerie) x3

Well sometimes I go out by myself

And I look across the water

And I think of all the things, what you're doing

And in my head I make a picture

:CHORUS:

(Valerie) x3

Yeh Valerie

"Fill My Little World" is a song by British rock group The Feeling, originally released in the UK on 7 November 2005 as their debut limited edition 7" vinyl, but was unable to chart due to chart rules. It was re-released in the UK on 22 May 2006 following the success of the single "Sewn" and entered the UK Singles Chart at #28 on 21 May 2006 based on download sales alone. The following week it climbed to #10 as a physical single was now available.

The video for the song has the band performing in a minibeast, a reptile and an amphibian cage.

Following the radio success of the band's debut, this track reached #1 on the Radio Airplay Chart and was once again a favourite of DJ Chris Moyles.

It has sold in excess of 105 000 copies in the UK and was used in the summer idents for ABC1.

Lyrics:

I had a dream we went away

Left this city for a day

You took me southwards on a plane

And showed me Spain or somewhere

But in reality you're not so keen to show me anything

And I thought you liked me

Hey, show some love, you aint so tough

Come fill my little world right up, right up

Someday you're going to realise

(I want you)

To fill my little world right up, right up, right up

Yeah, so what you gonna do

With all this stuff piling up, filling up and taking up

You misunderstand me

All I wanted was some evidence

That you really like me

(You really like me)

Hey, show some love, you aint so tough

Come fill my little world right up, right up

Someday you're going to realise

(I want you)

To fill my little world right up, right up, right up

Maybe it's all too much

How come we're so messed up

Maybe I'm not enough

Maybe you're just too much

Hey, show some love, you aint so tough

Come fill my little world right up

Ohh

Ohh

Yeah

Hey, show some love, you aint so tough

Come fill my little world right up, right up

Someday you're going to realise

(I want you)

To fill my little world right up, right up

Hey, show some love, you aint so tough

Come fill my little world right up, right up

Someday you're going to realise

That I'm passing you by

So fill your little world right up, right up, right up

Ohh

Come on and show me you aint so tough

40. Shakira - Hips Don't Lie

"Hips Don't Lie" is a Grammy Award-nominated Latin pop song performed by Colombian singer Shakira and Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean. The song is a cover of Wyclef's 2004's song "Dance Like This". Shakira assisted in the writing and producing process of the 2006 remake. The song was released as the second single from Shakira's second English album Oral Fixation Vol. 2 in 2006. "Hips Don't Lie" became a global success, topping the charts in many countries. It became Shakira and Wyclef's first (and to date, only) number-one single in the U.S.. In the UK, this was Wyclef's third number-one hit (after The Fugees' "Killing Me Softly" and "Ready Or Not") and Shakira's first. In many other European countries, it became Shakira's second number one, (following the massive success of "Whenever, Wherever"). It also became Shakira and Wyclef's most successful single ever, selling 9.7 million copies worldwide.

Lyrics:

Ladies up in here tonight

No fighting, no fighting

We got the refugees up in here

No fighting, no fighting

Shakira, Shakira

I never really knew that she could dance like this

She makes a man want to speak Spanish,

Como se llama, bonita, mi casa, su casa

Shakira, Shakira

Oh baby when you talk like that

You make a woman go mad

So be wise and keep on

Reading the signs of my body

And I'm on tonight

You know my hips don't lie

And I'm starting to feel it's right

All the attraction, the tension

Don't you see baby, this is perfection

Hey Girl, I can see your body moving

And it's driving me crazy

And I didn't have the slightest idea

Until I saw you dancing

And when you walk up on the dance floor

Nobody cannot ignore the way you move

your body, girl

And everything so unexpected - the way

you right and left it

So you can keep on shaking it

I never really knew that she could dance like this

She makes a man want to speak Spanish

Como se llama, bonita, mi casa, su casa

Shakira, Shakira

Oh baby when you talk like that

You make a woman go mad

So be wise and keep on

Reading the signs of my body

And I'm on tonight

You know my hips don't lie

And I am starting to feel you boy

Come on let's go, real slow

Don't you see baby asi es perfecto

Oh I know I am on tonight my hips don't lie

And I'm starting to feel it's right

All the attraction, the tension

Don't you see baby, this is perfection

Shakira, Shakira

Oh boy, I can see your body moving

Half animal, half man

I don't, don't really know what I'm doing

But you seem to have a plan

My will and self restraint

Have come to fail now, fail now

See, I am doing what I can, but I can't so

you know

That's a bit too hard to explain

Baila en la calle de noche

Baila en la calle de dia

Baila en la calle de noche

Baila en la calle de dia

I never really knew that she could dance like this

She makes a man want to speak Spanish

Como se llama, bonita, mi casa, su casa

Shakira, Shakira

Oh baby when you talk like that

You know you got me hypnotized

So be wise and keep on

Reading the signs of my body

Señorita, feel the conga, let me see you

move like you come from Colombia

Mira en Barranquilla se baila asi, say it!

Mira en Barranquilla se baila asi

Yeah

She's so sexy every man's fantasy

a refugee like me back with the Fugees

from a 3rd world country

I go back like when 'pac carried crates for

Humpty Humpty

I need a whole club dizzy

Why the CIA wanna watch us?

Colombians and Haitians

I ain't guilty, it's a musical transaction

No more we do snatch ropes

Refugees run the seas 'cause we own our

own boats

I'm on tonight, my hips don't lie

And I'm starting to feel you boy

Come on let's go, real slow

Baby, like this is perfecto

Oh, you know I'm on tonight and my

hips don't lie

And I'm starting to feel it's right

The attraction, the tension

Baby, like this is perfection

No fighting

No fighting

39. Jamelia - Something About You

"Something About You" was the first single from British R&B singer Jamelia's third album, Walk with Me. The single was released on 11 September 2006. Jamelia described the sound of the single as being more "experimental" and not as "R&B" as her previous material.

Her official mailing list confirmed that the single would be released on CD, DVD, 12" vinyl and download formats. The video for the single was premiered on 14 August 2006 and peaked at #6 in the UK TV airplay chart. "Something About You" also climbed into the top 5 on the UK's radio airplay chart, peaking at number four in its third week. "Something About You", released as a download single first, charted at #28 upon its download release on the official UK singles chart, the second highest new entry on downloads alone in that week. The physical formats were released one day after the song had charted on downloads only. The single rose to #10 in its second week on the chart based on 13,455 sales, and rose again to #9 in its third week.

Lyrics:

I could talk to you for days

YOu make me laugh one thousand ways

Not realising (you for me)

Like hot water (and my tea cup)

I'm enchanted by your smile

I must admit took a while

For me to see that (this was something)

More than (he's my friend, it's nothing)

I hope to God, you feel the way I feel

Cause this could be amazing

Something so super real

There's something about you

And you don't even know it

I'm telling you know that you got me good

There's something about you

And I can't help but show it

Damn it you got me good

Now I'm not alone

With you I'm home, I've gotta let you know

You got me good

Your style your voive your pints of view

The good the bad and ugly too

Boy I'll take it (give it to me)

I'll be careful (give it to me)

Addiction don't dome close to this

Official is what this sh- is

Still I can't say

No I can't say that (I'm in love)

I hope to God, you feel the way I feel

Cause this could be amazing

Something so super real

There's something about you

And you don't even know it

I'm telling you know that you got me good

There's something about you

And I can't help but show it

Damn it you got me good

Now I'm not alone

With you I'm home, I've gotta let you know

You got me good

I just wanna

Be your all and all

I just wanna be the one to make you fall

I wanna take you away

I want you to be with me

I want you here with me forever

Be my holliday

Let me take you away

There's something about you

There's something about you

And you don't even know it

I'm telling you know that you got me good

There's something about you

And I can't help but show it

Damn it you got me good

Now I'm not alone

With you I'm home, I've gotta let you know

You got me good
