Lily Allen - LDN WBqyEFyGaAM (Original single & video - Feb 2006) LDN (text speak for London) is a single by Lily Allen which was released in the UK on 25 September 2006. It was co-written by Future Cut, and features a sample of "Reggae Merengue." written by Arthur "Duke" Reid. The song was originally released on strictly limited edition 7" vinyl (500 copies) in the UK on 24th April 2006, accompanied by album track, "Knock 'Em Out," and was re-released in September following the huge success of Allen's second single "Smile" (UK#6 peak). The lyrics are of Lily describing a walk through her hometown of London. Set to a cheerful tune, the lyrics first appear to describe a lovely scene "A fella looking dapper, and he's sittin' with a slapper", but follow up revealing a less glamorous reality, "Then I see its a pimp and his crack whore." Several episodes from "city life" are described, suggesting that things may not be what they seem: Lyrics: Riding through the city on my bike all day Cause the filth took away my licence It doesn't get me down and I feel ok Cause the sights that I'm seeing are priceless Everything seems to look as it should But I wonder what goes on behind doors A fella looking dapper, but he's sittin with a slapper Then I see it's a pimp and his crack whore You might laugh you might frown Walkin' round London town Chorus Sun is in the sky oh why oh why ? Would I wanna be anywhere else Sun is in the sky oh why oh why ? Would I wanna be anywhere else When you look with your eyes Everything seems nice But if you look twice you can see it's all lies There was a little old lady, who was walkin down the road She was struggling with bags from Tesco There were people from the city havin lunch in the park I believe that it's called al fresco Then a kid came along to offer a hand But before she had time to accept it hits her over the head, doesn't care if she's dead Cause he's got all her jewellery and wallet You might laugh you might frown walkin round London town Chorus Sun is in the sky oh why oh why ? Would I wanna be anywhere else Sun is in the sky oh why oh why ? Would I wanna be anywhere else When you look with your eyes Everything seems nice But if you look twice you can see it's all lies Life, that's city life, yeah that's city life, that's city life Life, that's city life, yeah that's city life, that's city life Chorus Sun is in the sky oh why oh why ? Would I wanna be anywhere else Sun is in the sky oh why oh why ? Would I wanna be anywhere else Chorus x4
December 26, 200618 yr Author 37. Gwen Stefani - Wind It Up NbMzQMjrg44 "Wind It Up" is a pop song written by Gwen Stefani and Pharrell originally for inclusion on Stefani's Harajuku Lovers Tour 2005. Because of favorable reception, the song was rerecorded for her second solo album The Sweet Escape (2006). "Wind It Up" was released as the album's first single in late 2006 (see 2006 in music) and has charted highly across the world. The lyrics of "Wind It Up" include references to Stefani's clothing line, L.A.M.B., and chronicles Stefani's feelings on how boys are infatuated with staring at her. The song features yodelling and a sample of "The Lonely Goatherd" from The Sound of Music (1965), which it takes heavy influence from. Stefani considers The Sound of Music her favorite film, and she had wanted to incorporate a beat to one of its songs all her life. "Wind It Up" was originally written for the first L.A.M.B. fashion show and was not intended to appear on The Sweet Escape until Stefani heard the entire composition. "I literally cried, and I'm not exaggerating," she said. Lyrics: High on the hill with the lonely goatherd, lay-od-lay-od-lay-he-hoo Yodell back with the girl and goatherd, lay-od-lay-od-low Wind it up Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Uh, uh, Yodellay, yodallay, yodal-low (Yeah) This is the key that makes us wind up When the beat comes on, the girls all line up And the boys all look, but no, they can't touch But the girls want to know why boys like us so much They like the we dance, they like the way we work They like that way that L.A.M.B. is going 'cross my shirt They like the way my pants, it compliments my shape (She's crazy, right?) They like the way we react everytime we dance Everytime the bass bangs, re-alize it calls your name Let the beat wind you up, and don't stop till your time is up Get in line now Uh, uh, uh, Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Uh, uh, Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, (Come on) uh Uh, uh, Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Uh, uh, Yodellay, yodallay, yodal-low You've got to let the beat get under your skin You've got to open up, and let it all in But see, once it gets in, the poppin' begins And then you find out, why all the boys stare See, they're trying to bite our style Trying to study our approach They like the way we do it, so original I guess that they are slow, so they should leave the room This beat is for the clubs, and cars that go Everytime the bass bangs, re-alize it calls your name Let the beat wind you up, and don't stop till your time is up Get in line now Uh, uh, uh, wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh (Ya'll ready) Uh, uh, Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Uh, uh, Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Uh, uh, Wind it up, Yodellay, yodallay, yodal-low Uh uh huh, it's your moment Uh huh, come on girl, you know you own it Uh huh, you know your key is still tick-tockin' Hell yeah, and you know they're watchin' Get it girl, get it, get it girl Get it girl, get it, get it girl To the front, to the side, To the back, but don't let him ride Keep goin' girl, it's your night Don't let him steal your light I know he thinks you're fine and stuff But does he know how to wind you up? (Come on) Uh, uh, uh, Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Uh, uh, Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Uh, uh, Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Uh, uh, Wind it up, Yodellay, yodallay, yodal-low, hey!

Upper Room - Black & White UnpkKpYwGyc (First verse & chorus are missing) This single released in May as the follow up to All Over This Town debuted at UK#22 and spent three weeks in the Top75. Review: First impression: Nice artwork. The minimalist look of Black And White would lead you to believe that The Upper Room are going to be cerebral disco-punks with their eyes on the dancefloor. Their image, all sharp suits and faux-hawks, backs this up. However, somewhere between the aesthetic and the music, something clearly went awry, to the point where the look is ill at odds with the sound. You see, Black And White isn't artsy, angular, cerebral or witty. It is basic Britpop as performed by a completely unremarkable band. Vocalist Alex Miller has apparently been compared to Ian Curtis and Morrissey; one assumes by his bandmates and mother, as there is little evidence to support that case here. Instead, there is plenty of never-ceasing choruses (the repetition of "It's all black and white for me, baby" gets really annoying after the 325th time) and sub-Bluetones melodies. Sony put a big deal on the table for this band after seeing them rehearse: no gigs, no demos. On the basis of this single, one must suggest they were too hasty. If The Upper Room dressed like The Levellers and had bog-standard artwork, maybe I wouldn't feel so cheated, but it's typical: just when you are in the mood for something smart and witty you can dance to, you get lame, jangly pop that went out of fashion with Cool Britannia, Keith Allen and Sleeper.

Keane - Nothing In My Way SH6BQAd1GVQ "Nothing In My Way" is a song performed and composed by English piano rock and alternative rock band Keane that appears as the third track on their second album, Under the Iron Sea. The single was released as the third single from the album on October 30, 2006 (UK#19). After the french pop-rock band Bubblies, the single's release is notable as being the first ever commercial music release in USB format, a special edition limited to 1,500 copies. It was composed by Tim Rice-Oxley in late 2004, debuting at the Rolling Stone Roadshow, Germany along with "Hamburg Song" in October 20, 2004. From 2004 to late 2005 (during the final sprint of the Hopes and Fears Tour) was called "Nothing In Your Way" though the lyrics remain almost the same. Chaplin plays his Hammond organ on live performances for the outro of this song. It was recorded and at the Heliosentric Studios, Rye, East Sussex and at The Magic Shop, New York in late 2005. Lyrics: A turning tide Lovers at a great divide Why d'you laugh When I know that you hurt inside? And why'd you say "It's just another day, nothing in my way I don't wanna go, I don't wanna stay So there's nothing left to say?" And why'd you lie When you wanna die, when you hurt inside Don't know what you lie for anyway Now there's nothing left to say A tell-tale sign You don't know where to draw the line And why'd you say "It's just another day, nothing in my way I don't wanna go, I don't wanna stay So there's nothing left to say" And why'd you lie When you wanna die, when you hurt inside Don't know what you lie for anyway Now there's nothing left to say Well for a lonely soul, you're having such a nice time For a lonely soul, you're having such a nice time For a lonely soul, it seems to me that you're having such a nice time You're having such a nice time For a lonely soul, you're having such a nice time (Just another day, nothing in my way) For a lonely soul, you're having such a nice time (I don't wanna go I don't wanna stay) For a lonely soul, it seems to me that you're having such a nice time (Just another day, nothing in my way) You're having such a nice time (Don't know what you lie for anyway)
December 26, 200618 yr Author 34. Sugababes - Red Dress DEWxOVWXiaI "Red Dress" was the third single from the Sugababes' re-released fourth studio album Taller In More Ways(UK#4). This was the first single featuring new band-member Amelle Berrabah, who re-recorded parts of the song following the departure of Mutya Buena in December 2005. The single was released on March 6, 2006, while the new version was previewed on BBC Radio One on January 17, 2006. As a B-side to Red Dress the Sugababes have re-recorded the Arctic Monkeys' song "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor", which was received with a mixed reception. The main riff to the song is sampled from a classic Northern Soul track, 'Landslide', recorded by Tony Clarke. Also the Animotion cover, "Obsession" taken from Taller In More Ways, is dubbed as an additional B-side. On iTunes there a special download of the Extended Version of the single which includes a longer intro, another verse from Keisha (possibly recorded from the original sessions) before her first bridge and there is a repeat of the secondary chorus the first time it is sung by Amelle. Lyrics: Cooler than the red dress Cos I'm cooler Cos I'm cooler Cos I'm cooler than the red dress Cos I'm cooler Cos I'm cooler Using subtle diplome To get what she wants Can't say that it's wrong No baby A man's not a boy can't you see We're pulling the strings We're taking the lead And when you're sure You'll never let him play you again She'll put on your favourite smile And plug the cord And get you in your dirty dance Her hips will send you into a trance Cos I'm cooler than the red dress I'd rather catch a guy on my own (Give me credit) 'Cos what you see the man gets (Don't forget it) And if he don't I'm better off here alone Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Don't need candlelight to make you stay over I'm giving it up now, baby If that's what I gotta do just to own you I'm giving it up now maybe (To you) I've played the desperate lady Jumped through all of the hoops boy Instead of constant craving I leave the chasing to you And if you don't respect it Ill pick up my Jimmy Choos Cos boy if you don't love me Then I've got nothing to lose Cos I've been down this roads before I should have known that I was to blame Won't put on your Favourite smile Won't plug the cord to get you to your dirty dance That's not the way i get my demands Cos I'm cooler than the red dress I'd rather catch a guy on my own Cos what you see the man gets And if he don't I'm better off here alone (Save your kisses) Cos I'm cooler than the red dress (Do you get it) I'd rather catch a guy on my own (Give me credit) Cos what you see the man gets (Don't forget it) And if he don't I'm better off here alone Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Don't need candlelight to make you stay over I'm giving it up now baby If that's what I gotta do just to own you I'm giving it up now baby Don't need candlelight to make you stay over (Right now) I'm giving it up now baby If that's what I gotta do just to own you (Own you, own you baby) I'm giving it up now maybe Said don't call me baby (Cooler than the red dress) Said don't call me baby (Cooler than the red dress)

It was released on November 27, 2006 and peaked at UK#9. Lyrics: Well it's a big big city and it's always the same Can never be too pretty tell me your name Is it out of line if I were simply bold to say "Would you be mine"? Because I may be a beggar and you maybe the queen I know I maybe on a downer I'm still ready to dream Now it's 3 o'clock the time is just the time it takes for you to talk * So if you're lonely why'd you say you're not lonely Oh you're a silly girl, I know I heard it so It's just like you to come and go And know me no you don't even know me You're so sweet to try, oh my, you caught my eye A girl like you's just irresistible Well it's a big big city and the lights are all out But it's much as I can do you know I'll figure you out And I must confess, my hearts in broken pieces And my heads a mess And it's 4 in the morning, and I'm walking along Beside the ghost of every drinker here who has ever done wrong And it's you, woo hoo That's got me going crazy for the things you do So if you're crazy I don't care you amaze me But you're a stupid girl, oh me, oh my, you talk I die, you smile, you laugh, I cry And only, a girl like you could be lonely And it's a crying shame, if you would think the same A boy like me's just irresistible
December 26, 200618 yr Author 32. Justice vs Simian - We Are Your Friends 8fRyXyGSk68 This dance track debuted at UK#20 in July 2006 and spent 10 weeks in the charts. Review: Because we! Are! Your friends! Justice take this ridiculously addictive refrain and loop the $h!t out of it, dressing it up in grimey electroclash beats and creating the dancefloor monster of 2006. Seriously, this just might knock off Ratatat’s “Seventeen Years†as my single favorite party jam of all time. Simian’s original edit, “Never Be Alone†from 2002’s excellent We Are You Friends, was already an excellent track in its own right, but outside of that unimpeachable chorus, it lacked the punch and tempo to be a true dancefloor burner. Fortunately for clubs and party-goers everywhere, Justice’s update of the track delivers tempo, punch, and BPM in spades and then some. As the story goes, the song originated as the bedroom demo that got the Parisian duo (and new VICE signees) originally signed to the vaunted French dance label Ed Banger records in 2002, and immediately began to generate buzz as it gained circulation in the elite Parisian clubs. It saw a limited edition vinyl release later in 2004 and the duo’s conquest of the entire European club scene had officially begun, but it wasn’t until June of this year that the record was renamed “We Are Your Friends†and saw the proper single release it deserved courtesy of Virgin subsidary Ten Records. Since then the track has become the official anthem of the summer, and it seemed like you couldn’t go to any club in New York this summer (during my brief stay up there at least) without hearing the track.
December 26, 200618 yr Author 31. Nelly Furtado - All Good Things (Come To An End) 1j5_7V0DMkA "All Good Things (Come to an End)" is a pop song written by Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, Nate "Danja" Hills and Chris Martin for Furtado's third album Loose (2006). It was co-produced by Timbaland and Danja and released as the album's third European single in November 2006 (UK#4). Martin had originally contributed to the song with his vocals, but after a request from his label EMI and Timbaland, they were removed from the finished version included on Loose. The version of the song featuring Martin's vocals was leaked onto the Internet in April 2006 and will be available on the Japanese version of Loose. A version of the song recorded with the Italian pop group Zero Assoluto has been released in Italy. An MSN UK review of the song described it as "a reflective and emotional ballad with a strong melody, presumably the input of the Coldplay man, and lyrics which remind us that Nelly's still like a bird, albeit one who likes a bit of night-time action"; it gave the song 4.5 out of five stars. HMV UK published a four out of five star review in which its writer said that, in contrast to the album's previous singles, "Maneater" and "Promiscuous", "All Good Things" is "a beautiful, hooky, emotive ballad". Lyrics: Dogs were whistling a new tune Barking at the new moon Hoping it would come soon so that they could die Honestly what will become of me I don't like reality It's way too clear to me But really life is daily We are what we don't see We miss everything daydreaming Flames to dust Lovers to friends Why do all good things come to an end Traveling I always stop at exits Wondering if I'll stay Young and restless Living this way I stress less I want to pull away when the dream dies The pain sets it and I don't cry I only feel gravity and I wonder why And the sun was wondering if it should stay away for a day until the feeling went away And the clouds were dropping and the ................. the rain forgot how to bring salvation The dogs were whistling a new tune barking at the new moon hoping it would come soon so that they could die

Or leave a bad taste in your mouth? You act like you never had love And you want me to go without Well it's too late, tonight To drag the past out into the light We're one, but we're not the same We get to carry each other, carry each other Have you come here for forgiveness? Have you come to raise the dead? Have you come here to play Jesus? Lyrics: Find yourself a girl, and settle down Live a simple life, in a quiet town Steady, as she goes Steady, as she goes So steady, that she goes Your friends have shown a kink in the single life You've had to much to think, now you need a wife Steady, as she goes So steady, that she goes Well here we go again You found yourself a friend That knows you well But no matter what you do You always feel as though you tripped and fell So steady, that she goes When you have completed what you thought you had to do And your blood's depleted to the point of stable glue Then you'll get along Then you'll get along Steady, as she goes So steady, that she goes Well here we go again You found yourself a friend That knows you well But no matter what you do You always feel as though you tripped and fell So steady, that she goes Steady, that she goes Settle for a world, neither up or down Sell it to the crowd that has gathered around Settle for a girl, neither up or down Sell it to the crowd that has gathered around So steady, that she goes Steady, that she goes Steady, that she goes So steady, that she goes Steady, that she goes Are you steady now? Steady, that she goes Are you steady now? Steady, that she goes Are you steady now? Steady, that she goes Are you steady now? Steady, that she goes

December 31, 200618 yr Author 21. The Feeling - Sewn GTNYxrnydXw "Sewn" is the first single proper by British rock group The Feeling, following the 7" only single "Fill My Little World" (which would become a full single release itself). It was released in the UK on February 27, 2006 and entered the UK Singles Chart at #7 on March 5, 2006. "Sewn" gained the band a lot of support and went on to become one of the most successful songs of the year on British radio, with much thanks to Chris Moyles of BBC Radio One, who championed the band. The single was allegedly recorded in a shed in someone's back garden in Horsham. The video for "Sewn" begins with the band members in different rooms of a dimly-lit house. Through the video, threads from furniture, string, bedsheets and other material come to life and gradually envelop the band. As the video ends, they are all forcefully tied in a bundle, and singer Dan's lips are sewn together. Four Stops and Home, The Feeling's debut release for American audiences, incorporates "Sewn" as its leading track as well as its single artwork. It has sold in excess of 88,000 copies in the UK. Lyrics: Give me the song and I'll sing it like I mean it Give me the words and I'll say them like I mean it Cos you got my heart in a headlock You stopped the blood and made my head soft And god knows You got me sewn Nah nah nah etc. Danny boy, don't be afraid, to shake that ass, and misbehave Danny boy, I now you got time, but what are you waiting for, Anyway the dust may just blow away, if you wait for a windy day But you may find the chance has past you by; I can't do the way I can't do the talk I can't be your friend Unless I pretend So give me the song and I'll sing it like I mean it So give me the words and I'll say them like I mean it Cos you got my heart in a headlock You stopped the blood and made my head soft And god knows You got me sewn Nah nah nah etc. Danny boy, don't be a fool Take upon to break the rule Danny boy your lookin so low You lookin like the dead grown old Anyway the blues just may wash away, if you wait for a rainy day But you may find, the chance had past you by I can't do the way I can't do the talk I can't be your friend Unless I pretend So give me the song and I'll sing it like I mean it So give me the words and I'll say them like I mean it Cos you got my heart in a headlock You stopped the blood and made my head soft Cos you got my heart in a headlock You stopped the blood and made my head soft Made my head soft Made my head soft Made my head soft Made my head soft Yeah, yeah, yeah H Yeah, yeah, yeah...
