September 18, 20222 yr Author It’s the same with a lot of TikTok hits that failed to have big follow-ups, people seem to be there for the song rather than the artist in most cases. And this is where the industry is failing to support new artists. Breakfast hasn't had radio or streaming support despite a big single as the follow-up to a global hit. Dove's not the only one of course who it's happened to but it's a shame she's been ignored already.
September 18, 20222 yr Yeah it really surprises me that artists like Dove, Conan Grey, BENEE and countless others almost always fail to get support for follow up singles. The interest is there but not enough to get a hit from zero support! Even Gayle who had a huge #1 hit had ZERO support with her followup. Even Tate McRae had a hard time initially after You Broke Me First was a hit. So strange, it's something that needs to change and if it did I'm sure we would see much more new artists break through and have more sustained careers.
September 18, 20222 yr Author Tate got lucky that she's all i wanna be took on a viral life of its own, that seems to be the only way to get noticed again once you've had a viral hit. The amount of one-hit wonders over the last few years feels very high, but it's even stranger when so many of them continue to release hit-worthy tracks (Conan Gray will forever bug me because there's so much hit potential there), it's not like they only had one good song in them and nothing else caught on as much.
September 18, 20222 yr Even Gayle who had a huge #1 hit had ZERO support with her followup. And for that we are eternally grateful, as it was the musical equivalent of dysentery.
