I guess it was implied that About Last Night... was going to be the title of Mabel's second album and this press release of her upcoming outdoor show at Dublin's Fairview Park in June confirms this information.

 

Mabel is exploring club culture in bold, brilliant new ways on her upcoming album, About Last Night..., a vivid and hyperreal journey from the unknown start to the messy end of the night out that never was.

 

Throughout, songs transport the minutiae - getting ready; feeling invincible; clocking an ex; crying in the bathroom; friends lifting you up; the group stumbling home - and ultimately transform normality into the majestic. A notable shift from the disco-fantasia which blossomed early in the pandemic, About Last Night... distills the sweaty, grotty and unglamorous side of noughties club-culture, with influences spanning house, trance, rave, R&B, and the melting pot of young London.

 

The 25-year-old aims to create an online soundtrack of nighttime euphoria with the process of growing up in the public eye.

 

The project is introduced by first single, "Let Them Know" - an anthem of positivity, defiance, and dressing up with nowhere to go. Mabel wrote the track alongside Raye and SG Lewis in the shared mission of creating 2021's answer to "Vogue". By this stage of lockdown, Mabel had skipped the national grief of banana-bread-baking in favour of throwing herself into dance classes, obsessively re-watching Paris Is Burning, Pose and Drag Race, and reflecting on the club as a historical haven for the marginalised.

 

"My Mum has always been part of the LGBTQ+ community," Mabel says, "and I grew up in an unconventional house that always had amazing Queens and all sorts of backgrounds around me. I wanted to pay tribute to that energy and write something that was deliberately over-confident for me, but came from a place of being vulnerable."

 

Mabel's music to come was made remotely between stints locked-down in London and Los Angeles. Further names on the record include friends and frequent songwriting partners MNEK, Jax Jones, Kamille, Steve Mac, Jordan Riley and Tre Jean-Marie as well as new collaborators from pop’s top-table, like Stargate (Rihanna, Katy Perry), Tommy Brown (Ariana Grande, Victoria Monet), Jozzy (Beyoncé, Lil Nas X), and Aldae (Justin Bieber).

Based of the information above, it seems pretty obvious that this is going to be a dance pop record, but feel free to move to R&B where all of Mabel's threads (aside "Good Luck") are.

It's going to be interesting to see how this does, she really needs to launch it off a bigger hit. Including 'I Wish' would probably do wonders for streaming sales.

She's already said there will be more singles coming soon, i'm not sure if its for the album but theres a collab with 24kGoldn they have both teased via Instagram so I presume that might be next. I also think 'definition' has good potential as a single.

because she’s lost all of her hype, good luck probably missing top 50 despite huge spotify push, galantis and david guetta is a tragic start

Can’t say I’m hugely excited for this after Let Them Know and Good Luck. Although I still have a bit of hope that she can come up with something better.

That PR person really wrote that like their life depended on it.

was she also sarcastic when she unfollowed the label a while ago... it all really sounds like the label has zero faith in the album

That was all fake rumours after her supposedly unfollowing the label on social media.

We really need to wish Mabel Good Luck that this album will happen

She's been talking about "old Mabes" and "rnb Mabes making a comeback" on her instagram recently, so hopefully her and the label have learnt from Good Lucks performance and are changing direction.

 

I think the album will be pushed back later, but it'll be worth it if she can come up with some better songs.
