sorry I don't have a banner yet x

:hi: So while I still don't have the patience or time for a weekly chart, I do still want to make an effort to keep up with the general music scene so I've decided to do a quarterly chart where I can talk about my favourite songs from each section of the year. This will aid me a bit better when compiling an EOY chart and ensure I can still talk about music I really like, even if I'm months late to finding like I usually am x It will just be a straightforward ranking with commentary, songs generally have to have been released in this quarter of the year, although knowing me, I can be rather late to the party with some of them. I'm also gonna not use my own BJSC entries until they've been revealed In case they add up to veto points x cos I like to be secretive.

Feel free to comment and any recommendations you have if you know my taste would be highly appreciated given how delayed I am to music these days x

Commentary:

It's no surprise to see Highasakite as my revelations of the year thus far, the slowly building beauty of Autopsy was actually bested on the album by the wonderful, Can I Come Home which really throws everything at the wall, including beautiful strings and a sense of longing that, living on my own, I've found myself relating quite a bit too.

Arcade Fire's comeback was thankfully a lot stronger than most songs from Everything Now, it harkens back to their old roots with a slow build to an absolute barnstormer of a track. I've switched from BBC Radio 6Music to Radio 1 for my morning alarm (if there's any sign I'm getting older, it's that) and I have not regretted it for a second as it has allowed to discover these beautiful slow burners from Father John Misty & Royksopp, I'd much rather that that whatever rubbish dance music comes on at 7 in the morning x

Kavinsky are back after an absence of almost nine years! Zenith is a direct sequel to Nightcall, and it does have that similar vibe, if not quite as delicious with its synths, but it's really grown on me over the months.

My new music playlist often recommends me past BJSC acts, and I have that to thank for these excellent songs from ADULT., Dance With the Dead, Berlin and Sidewalks & Skeletons, the ADULT. one is possibly better than the BJSC entry that I sent.

I'm a bit late to the party with Joywave, Wet Leg and Little Simz, but they are all great songs and the latter won a BRIT award so I can count it x I was thankfully not too late to checking out Black Country, New Road, that was a great album, took it's time to click but the last few tracks were awesome. Caroline Polachek and Sudan Archives are two other really nice tracks that have been getting quite a bit of blog attention recently.

There's a lot of cool electronic stuff from Fort Romeau & Rival Consoles. Portico Quartet are an experimental classical group that have been very impressive thus far and Jenny Hval is an artist I really need to check out an album from soon, Cemetery of Splendour is a very epically building and spoken word song that really hits hard.

There's also some BJSC stuff like x
