The fat cats are purring in the Square Mile this Christmas. It has been a record year, and nearly 5,000 bankers, brokers and fund managers working in the City of London are set to receive bonuses of more than £1m. For a select few, the year has ended even better — the biggest producers, the highest earners, are looking at £5m, £10m or even £20m for a single year’s work.

 

But in the end, success in the Square Mile only has one face, and it is a financial one. When we hear that on Wall Street the heads of Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and Bear Stearns are clocking $40m to $50m apiece as they pass go this year, we should remember that they are not doing this for the sake of personal gain. They are seeking to set an example to the rest of the firm, to the ranks of perspiring youngsters working their way up the corporate hierarchy. It’s really all about inspiration. They want to inspire their employees to aim higher and achieve even more.

They are in charge of investing pension funds on the stock exchange and in bonds etc so they are making more money for everyone that pays into company pension funds so I see no reason why they should not be rewarded, want to see fat cats look at premiership footballers who earn on average £45,000 a week each for kicking a pigs bladder about and the top earners like Rooney will make £20m+ this season

there are lots of people who do much more important jobs than these leeches,like doctors and nurses but they dont get millions in bonuses just because some t*** looking at a computer screen buys low and sells high, christ you can train a chimp to do that,and just give it bananas.

 

this is corporate greed straight out of the film Wall Street or thatchers yuppy culture. We would all love bonuses built into our contracts but 99% of us get nothing or a measly amount handed out at Christmas.

Sooner that place gets bombed the better....
