This world-weariness is something that the Pussycat Dolls, who trailed Lachey on the bill, have little use for, and lucky for them. In 15 minutes onstage, the six Dolls, dressed in various combinations of Lycra and skin, hurtled through a handful of shiny, seamless pop -- even a dab of reality might have sunk the whole ship.

 

For frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger , of course, this is the point. Her smile borders on robotic. And even when the Dolls were at their worst -- as in a version of "Beep" that featured a canned will.i.am -- she made the whole thing feel airtight.
