Posted May 4, 20223 yr First thread as a non-chart mod :magic: It's a fact I've brought up numerous times that every #1 since the fantastic 7 Years by Lukas Graham () has credited at least one artist from the UK, USA, Canada or Australia. However, I hadn't really paid too much attention to how those songs featured in the rest of the charts. Here's a list of all the Top 100 hits reaching new peaks this year which have not credited any artists from any of those countries: #5 Belters Only ft. Jazzy – Make Me Feel Good (Ireland) #50 Cian Ducrot – All For You (Ireland) #52 Pheelz & Buju – Finesse (Nigeria) #63 AnnenMayKantereit & Giant Rooks – Tom’s Diner (Germany) #89 Jungkook – Stay Alive (South Korea) #92 Belters Only ft. Jazzy – Don’t Stop Just Yet (Ireland) #98 Stray Kids – Maniac (South Korea) ... it's not a particularly big list. Out of interest I did the same for 2021 (excluding the first week with the Christmas songs), and the list is much bigger - however interestingly, by this time in the year, there had only been 8 songs matching this criteria (marked in bold in this list): #3 Tiesto – The Business (Netherlands) #3 BTS – Butter (South Korea) #3 Jonasu – Black Magic (Germany) #3 CKay – Love Nwantiti (ah ah ah) (Nigeria) #5 – Maneskin – I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE (Italy) #6 Shane Codd – Get Out My Head (Ireland) #6 Maneskin – Beggin’ (Italy) #8 ATB, Topic & A7S – Your Love (9PM) (Germany/Sweden) #9 ABBA – Don’t Shut Me Down (Sweden) #10 Meduza ft. Dermot Kennedy – Paradise (Italy/Ireland) #14 ABBA – I Still Have Faith In You (Sweden) #16 WizKid ft. Tems – Essence (Nigeria) #16 BTS – Permission To Dance (South Korea) #16 Dermot Kennedy – Better Days (Ireland) #17 Maneskin – ZITTI E BUONI (Italy) #17 Lorde – Solar Power (New Zealand) #25 AURORA – Runaway (Norway) #29 Duncan Lawrence – Arcade (Netherlands) #30 Bella Poarch – Build a ***** (Philippines) #43 Rosé – On The Ground (New Zealand) #43 Dadi Freyr – 10 Years (Iceland) #46 Lisa – Money (Thailand) #46 MEDUZA ft. Hozier – Tell It To My Heart (Italy/Ireland) #48 Lorde – Mood Ring (New Zealand) #49 Sigrid – Mirror (Norway) #53 Maneskin – MAMMAMIA (Italy) #59 Go_A – SHUM (Ukraine) #59 ABBA – Just A Notion (Sweden) #60 Vegedream - Ramenez la coupe à la maison (France) #61 ABBA – Little Things (Sweden) #62 Barbara Pravi – Voila (France) #66 Blind Channel – Dark Side (Finland) #66 Westlife – Starlight (Ireland) #67 ABBA – When You Danced With Me (Sweden) #68 LISA – Lalisa (Thailand) #73 BTS – Film Out (South Korea) #74 Skillibeng – Crocodile Teeth (Jamaica) #80 TWICE – The Feels (South Korea) #84 Ofenbach ft. Lagique – Wasted Love (France/??) #84 Bissett – Every Single Time (Ireland) #85 Lorde – Stoned At The Nail Salon (New Zealand) #86 Elena Tsagrinou – El Diablo (Greece) #93 Gjon’s Tears – Tout L’Univers (Switzerland) #99 Justin Wellington & Small Jam – Iko Iko (My Bestie) (Papua New Guinea / Solomon Islands) So hopefully with Eurovision around the corner the chart might start looking more international in the coming months!
May 4, 20223 yr I hadn't considered before that all of Make Me Feel Good, Peru, Down Under and Where Are You Now are rare Top 40 hits where the first named artist is from outside the UK, US and Canada - perhaps that goes some way to excuse all their ACR dodging...
May 5, 20223 yr Are those really the top 4? Are there more AU artists than from Ireland? for some reason I'd imagine Ireland as #3
May 5, 20223 yr That is slightly depressing just how few non-Anglosphere artists can manage to chart here at all at least without collaborating with UK/US/Canadian artists. Especially as this list even still includes a couple of Anglosphere nations (Ireland and New Zealand don't feel like they belong in a list like this even if there are fewer hits from those countries than you might expect).
May 5, 20223 yr Author Are those really the top 4? Are there more AU artists than from Ireland? for some reason I'd imagine Ireland as #3 I haven't counted the number of Australian acts in the Top 100 but in my Nationalities thread they do generally finish above Ireland (the biggest gap was 2018 with 6 Australian acts compared to no Irish ones). Thinking about it again I could have just omitted all Anglosphere (+ Ireland) countries, although that would've reduced out 2022 list down to a mere four songs!
May 6, 20223 yr Guess Ireland's acts were bigger in the past than now, but they were huge in the 90s (U2, Enya, Cranberries, Sinead O'Connor, Boyzone, The Corrs, B'Witched,...) and then continued with Westlife, Ronan Keating, Damien Rice etc but much less these days Ireland would also probably be higher if you counted number of hits rather than number of acts, cos many Irish acts lasted pretty long
May 7, 20223 yr There's another one to add to the list now as 'That That' by PSY feat. SUGA made it to #61!
