Stage 1 was taken (unsurprisingly) by Matthieu Van Der Poel. Eritrean Biniam Girmay started off well with a second place though, a good start and here's hoping he'll be the first black rider to take a stage at a Grand Tour. An unfortunate crash for Caleb Ewan though!

Today's stage was a time trial - looking forward to watching the highlights later ^_^

Koen Bouwman taking his debut Grand Tour win today - another fantastic showing from Jumbo-Visma as Tom Dumoulin effectively set it up for him! Lopez still in pink.

That day was today! Fantastic to see it finally happen.

Lopez still in pink - an absolutely stellar performance yesterday for him to keep the jersey despite being dropped.

Alberto Dainese took his first win at the Giro today - the first Italian to win a stage this year, and quite a shock given no-one predicted him to take the sprint! Lopez still in pink.

Another exciting stage today - Stefano Oldani took his first ever win from a 3-up sprint where none of the riders had ever won a stage before! As before, Lopez remains in pink.

All change at the top of the GC! Lopez finally lost the jersey today, falling to 9th. Carapaz and Hindley are the Top 2 and it looks like the battle will be between them from now on!

Quite an exciting one for the breakaway with the leader changing so many times! Jan Hirt took a rare win though, and a fantastic one! Jai Hindley won the sprint for third, meaning he's now within 3 seconds of Carapaz' lead.

The break denying the sprinters today with Dries de Bondt getting the win! Carapaz still in pink, although Almeida (who was in fourth) has had to pull out due to catching COVID.

Fantastic stage today - Hindley played it perfectly and attacked just when Carapaz was cracking and managed to take a minute and a half over him! Just the time trial left now...

And Jai takes the win! Delighted for him, after losing the jersey on the final day two years ago it must be fantastic for him to take it (against a full complement of opponents this time as well!) A fantastic Giro and here's to the next one.
