May 12, 20223 yr Ngl I'm not mad about Cyprus losing their streak at all, they needed this slap on the wrist for deviating from the Eleni/Tamta/Elena formula Nah I pretty much would not prefer them continuing this path as we are getting bored of the same formula and results are declining for them under the same formula too. May 12, 20223 yr because the quality of songs has also massively declined. it's like a parody of a parody at this point. Eleni is still the reigning Cypriot queen and will hardly be challenged by those amateurs
May 12, 20223 yr due to not having the in-built support that other countries enjoy, that is in part responsible for their lesser scores in particularly the smaller semi field In built support has to be grown over time. Or am I not getting you?
May 12, 20223 yr In built support has to be grown over time. Or am I not getting you? that's not the point of what I am saying at all. It's a fact of Eurovision that it is not entirely fair, and my comments are descriptive, these countries are disadvantaged because of having to work against it. Whether it's diaspora, neighbours, better music industry or perceived strength from doing well lately, I'm just reiterating the fact that these countries on poor qualification records don't have any of that and there's a feedback loop that they'd be right to be aggrieved over because their qualification is not based entirely on their song's quality or wide appeal while Azerbaijan gets to sail through with any old crap (in this case, in a style that there was definitely already too much of in the final and the final wouldn't miss). there were more of the consistent qualifiers in semi 1, where I think only Armenia/Albania/Bulgaria had a changed fortune from last year, but semi 2 had mostly those on short qualification blips that came back to the final, if they came back to the final at all - the main exception was Romania who have been on an unusually poor streak in recent years and I don't imagine they'll easily go back to that. I could never imagine Greece, Ukraine or Sweden going on long qualification droughts like Ireland have and that's unfortunate for the reputation of the contest in countries like that and Georgia, Montenegro etc. It's not just small or neighbourless countries either, because Iceland is on a decent run, Czech Republic have turned things around, Malta qualifies a fair amount of the time, Cyprus just came off a huge streak, but they had some of the confidence of good results where as Georgia/Montenegro/Ireland/N Macedonia don't have that at all.
