Paradise Lost rightly appearing in these countdowns.

At number 17 I really surprised myself when this even made my list! To compile my list I went on a Steps marathon and listened to pretty much everything and then compiled a list as I went on and somewhat suprisingly HEARTEAT made it to #17. If you had asked me before this rating I would never have thought of this song but when listening I appreciated how beautiful it actually is, a proper Steps ballad! I think at the time it was just overshadowed by the brilliance of Tragedy (yet to come)...

 

Double post alert!! In 16th place we are remaining with Step One (still my fave of their albums) and it's Steps' first cover LAST THING ON MY MIND! This really suits them such a retro sound to it obviously helped with the video and quite an inspired cover since I don't think many people associated it with Bananarama (I didn't even know myself until 20 years later!!!). Lee in the video is just yesss I really hope we get behind the scenes releases of him in those orange trunks :P How dare they blur it so bloody rude!

I strongly approve of Last Thing on My Mind.

Heartbeat is a cute song with a nice campy video. I enjoy the remix even more.

 

I rated Last thing too low in my countdown! I just played it too much I guess? Lovely memories of this track. If only for the Speedo

Heartbeat wouldn't be one of their signature singles whereas Tragedy is their signature hit.

Apologies for the delay in posting, been a busy time am currently writing school reports and damn they are killing me!!

 

Anyway in 15th place perhaps another one that will shake things up a bit... BABY DON'T DANCE! Utterly loved this song from the moment I first heard it and it has remained my favourite of the new tracks on Gold... and in fact is the only Gold track to make it on this list... sorry Chain Reaction (not really). I have always found this such a catchy bop and I utterly LOVE it when it comes on in the car, you can guarantee I am being all sassy and "baby I'm in loooooove... DON'T HOLD ME BACK! DON'T STOP ME NOW!" Wish it had got a single release over Words are not enough it's vastly superior.

 

Ps also LOVE this performance of it, it's epic... as are Lee's biceps!

 

 

And now for one that is probably less shocking in 14th place is STOMP!

 

Another one I loved from the get go I only wish that it was longer if so it likely would have been higher. I always feel it needs another chorus and for that reason the Party on the dancefloor tour version is my favourite version of this song... that performance is also super cool and I love it! The video is very fun too and I always thought they must have had a blast recording it. A deserved second #1 for them and I was always surprised that it wasn't a bigger seller.
