Unrelated to the poll but Wardy's post has reminded me that Rihanna is referred to in the title of two top 40 hits (Yxng Bane & The Wanted). Elvis seems to have her beat though as there are four top 40 records (Danny Mirror/Dire Straits/Kirsty MacColl/Scouting For Girls) that refer to him in the title. I wonder if that's a record of in any other celebrity has been referenced in the titles of more hit songs?

(Obviously not including examples like 'Lady Madonna' which isn't a name-check of the future celebrity)

Did Post Malone ever comment on the Sam Feldt track? It was the complete opposite of what a song about him should sound like IMO!
Looks like I didn't miss any obvious ones then as no one's pointed any out.

I would say Bette Davis Eyes is quite an obvious miss! :P

From who voted for:

  1. Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood
  2. Mika - Grace Kelly
  3. Pharrell Williams - Marilyn Monroe
  4. Daniel Bedingfield - James Dean
  5. Duck Sauce - Barbra Streisand
  6. Dave & AJ Tracey - Thiago Silva
  7. Chiddy Bang - Ray Charles
  8. Weezer - Buddy Holly
  9. Tiesto And Dzeko feat. Preme & Post Malone - Jackie Chan

You can include then Sven Sven Sven, Who Do You Think You're Kidding Jürgen Klinsmann, :P

Notorious B.I.G. 'Pac's Life should be included.

voted Clint Eastwood and Grace Kelly, best 2.

my first thought was Kevin Carter by the Manics, but guess he's not that famous a name

:hi:

I’m going to be that annoying fan that always nitpicks about everything and anything. :kink:

The list is in fact very strong, you have clearly spent some time researching and preparing the list. The term celebrity is very subjective but… I think the names in the list are all certainly famous people and rightly belong in the poll. :)

I immediately started to think of names that could be added to the list and here is what I came up with (for now at least);

Ok I’ll stop now.

It’s a good job Lady Gaga wasn’t in this poll or she would have won with a majority thanks to her many fans on BuzzJack!

I did actually think of most of those but discarded them :P mostly because I was going for celebrities from the entertainment industry rather than just any famous person from history. So of that list, the Yxng Bane is the one that I legitimately missed. 'John Wayne' did occur to me but it didn't chart so I didn't include it.

(And before anyone comes for me, I've restricted it to songs where the entire title is the name of a celebrity which is why there's no 'Walks Like Rihanna' or 'She's Madonna', I'd have been there all night otherwise).

Guessing not everyone read that bit of the OP lol. If anyone wants to spend hours researching songs where a famous person is mentioned in some part of the title then don't let me stop you :)

Ah fair enough, I did find some useful links by searching “famous people in song titles” which brought up all sorts of results. ;)

I’m sure there are other names I didn’t think of.

and Charlie Brown is a character, not a “real” famous person!

I mean, it's not a very good song and it didn't chart (plus it wasn't even a single really was it?)

Would 'She's Madonna' by Robbie Williams be eligible for this?

It's a shame B Young's 'Justin Bieber' never became a hit. A great track and better than his 2 biggest hits imo.

Looks like there are two clear frontrunners then, I think we should award it jointly to 'Grace Kelly' and 'Clint Eastwood' :)
Funny to see the song which inspired the poll in last place. Wonder if it would have been different had D-Block Europe named 'Kevin McCallister' after the actor instead...
Uma Therman is an absolute BANGER
