Greetings, everyone! :hi:

It's been 2 years since I made my first personal chart on Crownnote. Last December, I decided to go back to July 2018, when I started becoming a music chart fan, to put every discoveries I discovered back then in charts. I didn't write or type my old charts like what other people did, so all of my 2018 and 2019 charts were written last December.

Most of these upcoming top fives are likely against Buzzjack's taste, so I hope you can discover something here.

Stay tuned!

Commentary

Let’s start this list with one of the most popular songs in 2018. “Shotgun” is still Ezra’s only number-one song in the UK. It also peaked #1 in Australia, but it failed to continue Budapest’s success in Billboard Hot 100.

Taken from Tiësto’s I Like It Loud EP, “Dawnbreaker” is still Tiësto's only song that reached the top 5 on my personal charts. Luckily, 3 of his hits before “The Business” were still able to reach the top 40. “God Is A Dancer” peaked at #25, “Ritual” peaked at #20, and “Jackie Chan” peaked at #6.

Didi Kempot – Pamer Bojo

Commentary

It’s definitely one of the most unexpected songs peaking at #5. Didi Kempot is one of Indonesian legendary singers since the ‘80s. “Pamer Bojo” was released in 2016, but didn’t get a lot of attention until 2019. It was the year when Mas Didi became one of the top 5 most popular Indonesian live musicians. In March 2020, he was able to collect IDR7,6B (£412,7K) from a 3-hour live charity concert for those who were affected by COVID-19. 2 months after the virtual concert, Mas Didi died at the age of 53.

I didn’t come for Five Feet Apart because I haven’t watched the movie yet. I’m quite a fan of Andy Grammer’s vocals. This, “Honey, I’m Good”, “Fresh Eyes”, “Back Home”, and “I Found You (with Cash Cash)” are my personal favorites. Really hoping I can enjoy his newer stuff in the future.

Marshmello ft. A Day to Remember – Rescue Me

Commentary

I’m not a fan of ADTR’s music, so I don’t know how true fans reacted to “Rescue Me”. It was a solid combination between Marshmello’s classic trap-EDM and ADTR’s rock stuff. It’s also the only Joytime III song that entered my chart—I wish I didn’t forget “Angklung Life”, Mello's collaboration with Wiwek.

W&W, Blasterjaxx – Let The Music Take Control

Commentary

2018-2020 was the easiest year for big room music. Almost 90% of the tracks debuted at least on the top 20. “Let The Music Take Control” was the third collaboration of W&W and Blasterjaxx after “Rocket” and “Bowser”. It still sounds pretty good in 2022, unlike their latest collaboration “Dynamite (Bigroom Nation)”, which sounds generic.

It was released in 2017, but thanks to Spotify Ads, it managed to debut in 2019. It ran even better on the charts thanks to the Indonesians who made a lot of Spotify Premium Ad parodies called Spotify Pantura.

Following the worldwide success of their EDM collaboration “Born To Be Yours” with Kygo, Imagine Dragons released their first Origins single, “Natural”. It peaked at #13 on Billboard Hot 100, even higher than BTBY. Until now, only 4 Imagine Dragons songs managed to enter my personal charts and all of them are inside the top 5.

Commentary

I was a huge fan of Alan Walker’s electropop releases before I started enjoying 128 BPM music and hard dance more. “Diamond Heart” was a huge redemption by Alan Walker, after “Darkside” failed to peak at the top 10. A lot of people thought it was a collaboration with Sia. Still, Sophia’s vocals are so beautiful.

Although “Born To Be Yours” only peaked at #74 in Billboard Hot 100 and #54 in OCC, it was still a massive hit in Asia. As an instance in Indonesia, it peaked at #19 on Spotify and was played by the biggest local radio PramborsFM for over 6 months. It was also used as PramborsFM’s official mashup of the month alongside Alan Walker’s “Darkside” and Marshmello’s “Happier”.

Tom Walker’s first breakthrough hit “Leave A Little Light On” managed to debut at #4 on the very first week of Cow Cow’s flashback chart. His first top 3 UK song, “Just You and I”, was also able to reach the top 40, although it failed to peak higher.

One of the songs that introduced me to hardstyle music. Atmozfears was one of Monstercat’s hard dance legends, while Devin Wild and David Spekter were quite new names for me. All three acts have each two songs entering my charts now.

Although The Greatest Showman album isn’t Buzzjack’s favorite thing (if I’m not mistaken), it doesn’t change the fact that I really love P!nk’s version of “A Million Dreams”. It was played daily for more than 6 months on local radio and it became one of my favorite P!nk songs until today!

Another progressive house banger by W&W and Nicky Romero back in 2019. It was way more superior than their latest collaboration “We’re Still Young” last year.

Finally, an introduction to one of the biggest robberies of 2018 lol, which is Feenixpawl. I’ll talk about ‘that song’ later because I put it on my 2018/19 charts as well. This remix, however, is simply a certified progressive banger.

Quite gutted that this song never hit number one in both the UK and US although it’s still played in every Indonesian radio. I definitely did not forget the copyright suit sent by ARTY either because I couldn’t unhear “Happier” on ARTY’s remix of “I Lived” by OneRepublic as well. However, I still enjoy listening to both songs and artists.

Irish band Westlife made a surprising comeback in 2019 with “Hello My Love”. It is such a good song and definitely an easy-listening one. Quite unfortunate I failed to chart Shane Filan’s “Beautiful In White” because I forgot putting it.

Now, I quite understand why most EDM fans got into hardstyle from Sub Zero Project. Their 2018 and 2019 releases are really that good. They were even able to do a collaboration with a trance vocalist like Christina Novelli. I quite like Villain’s ‘atom bomb’ line, which is pretty memorable. Also, its BPM is 160, 10 BPM faster than their normal hardstyle releases.

great to see Tough Love make it here. it won’t surprise you that I charted it at number one, having kicked off SOS then being replaced by Heaven.

Diamond Heart, Happier are great too but didn’t make it so high for me. Find My Way I am not familiar with the remix version but I did enjoy the original a fair bit.

Nope, I'm not surprised at all it went easily to your #1. Both SOS and Heaven will (unsurprisingly either) appear here too.

Hadn't known the original Find Our Way until the Feenixpawl remix appeared on an EDM channel I subscribed. Both versions are good, but the remix fits my music taste more.

How about starting the top 3 with a controversial song? PewDiePie released his first T-Series diss track “Lasagna” in December 2018. It’s soooooo controversial, but I think it’s still pretty interesting. Anyway, let’s get to the next song. Otherwise I’ might get burned alive.

After releasing “No Sleep” with Bonn (which will appear here too later on), Martin Garrix released the long-awaited ADE 2018 ID with two familiar BJSC names, Matisse & Sadko and Alex Aris. It’s literally High On Life 2.0, but I still enjoy it either way. It was promoted by Prambors during the Friday night show since “No Sleep” was able to reach Prambors Top 40. However, “Mistaken” failed to continue Garrix’s success in Indonesian pop radio.

You might remember that Calum Scott became popular in Indonesia because of ABDA performing YATR at Indonesian Idol. I first discovered this at JOOX (before I started using Spotify). I found this collaboration interesting because I knew Don Diablo from my friend who showed me his Chainsmokers x Coldplay remix. Overall, it’s a great future house collaboration and I didn’t find the vocal chops annoying at all.

No, I did not know much about Alexander Popov and Natalie Gioia back then. I came because of Attila Syah, who was already a famous DJ and producer in Indonesia. Overall it was still an amazing vocal progressive tune by the three. Until today, Popov is still a 1HW, however both Attila and Gioia had already got their 2nd hit on my chart.

Mike Perry, who is known for his “The Ocean” with Shy Martin, had one top 5 song on my chart called “One Life”. It was the anthem of Neversea Festival 2019. His previous release “Runaway”, nearly got there, only peaking at #6. I think this is the first song I introduced that got the February 22nd 2020 collision. I’ll explain that collision later when I get into the number 1 lists.

Honestly, I forgot how I discovered this song. That time I had no idea who Alex Clare was because I hadn’t followed OCC yet. What I remembered was that I found the song title and the chorus interesting. Overall, it’s a great song. Per today, it’s still Bakermat’s only hit on my chart, but I know other songs like “Baianá” and one of #145 entries “Temptation”.
