Posted May 25, 20223 yr I’ll keep this post short, I want to make a playlist of songs by artists who have made some sort of return to music in 2022 after a split or hiatus, or just after over 5 years without recording new material. To assist me, can you think of any names of artists who would fit this category so far from 2022 and would you say it feels any more dominant that previous years (possibly due to easing of COVID restrictions)?
May 26, 20223 yr BIGBANG! Their song "Still Life" is their first song as a group collective in four years ("Flower Road" was released in 2018) since they had been rotating in and out of military service, and their first release as a quartet! They were actually supposed to come back in 2020 in Coachella but then the pandemic happened, so it got delayed... and two years later, it's here! eN5mG_yMDiM
May 26, 20223 yr Ashanti, La Roux, Colin Hay... do they count :D also Mariah Carey if you're counting those ;)
May 26, 20223 yr It’s Train’s first album since 2017, but they’ve released plenty of random singles/collabs since then.
May 26, 20223 yr Author Ashanti, La Roux, Colin Hay... do they count :D also Mariah Carey if you're counting those ;) No because those are chart comebacks rather than music comebacks! True, they wouldn’t really count, but they probably do add to the fact that it feels like a whole host of names are becoming relevant again in 2022 who were all but forgotten about a year ago. I agree with N-Dubz and Blue who were on my mind when making this thread. Not sure if Diana Ross counts but she’s another whose been making music again recently. Mark Owen’s new solo material is the first in a long time too.
May 26, 20223 yr I don’t think it says much other than samples of older songs do well at the moment, which isn’t much of a surprise.
May 26, 20223 yr My Chemical Romance Pink Floyd - reformed for a one-off charity release Porcupine Tree - first new album in 13 years Stromae - first album in 9 years Big Time Rush + if 5-6 years away is enough for a comeback these would count too~ Red Hot Chili Peppers Jamie T PSY
May 26, 20223 yr Tears For Fears released their first album since 2004 this year. There's also xPropaganda who are in the top 10 on the midweek album updates. The last Propaganda album with Claudia Brücken and Susanne Freytag goes back to 1985. Marillion and Archive both released their first studio albums since 2016. If you're doing a playlist, I recommend you put Care Part 4 by Marillion onto it (or even Parts 1-4 if you want the whole 15 minute song).
