Potter is absolutely both good enough and ready for a top 6 move, however it feels a shame for it to be Chelsea, they feel far the least suited to that. However I don't really think you can reject it when one of them comes along. It might affect Brighton in the short term but they'll have planned for this eventuality. He's taken them to a new level and they're clever enough to stay there.

My concern would be with Potter is the owners are trigger happy and this seems very pre-planned. It would take some time for his style of football to be tactically implemented in to the squad and there are already a few seemingly strange signings.

Bohely seems like he's running the show at Chelsea which is a recipe for disaster, but even if Potter failed at Chelsea another team would pick him up so probably a win-win for him.

Yeh agree with the comments above - Potter has done an unbelievable job at Brighton, always said if they had Haaland upfront they would be contenders which says it all. They are a well run club anyway so will likely survive but the managerial apt for them is crucial as they could fall away again.

As for Potter he’s def capable but it doesn’t always work out when going to a big club with different expentations. I always thought he would be the next England manager!

Exactly. Tony Bloom is a good owner who will know that Graham Potter will be lured away one day. He's bound to have been tracking other managers ready for the day that happens. After all, there wasn't much of a gap between sacking Chris Hughton and Potter being appointed.

Would be an interesting appointment. I guess it would depend on if Poch and Zidane do rebuff the alleged approach. Managing Chelsea is a bit of a poisoned chalice as is, I know what an honour it would be for Potter but he would be taking a job with a ticking clock, an expiration date that is massively sooner than the end of his contract. I can understand the allure but I’m not sure Chelsea is a club I would take the jump for

Naturally that also depends on if he feels like he has come to the end of his journey with Brighton and can take them no further. Personally I would be inclined to argue that getting Brighton into a European spot is infinitely more of an achievement than getting Chelsea to 4th. (Also the argument I made against Marco Rose leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach for Borussia Dortmund - hes now favourite for the German version of the Chelsea poisoned chalice at RB Leipzig)

Brighton have given Chelsea permission to talk to Potter. It would definitely be a big risk for him but one that would come with a very generous financial reward. It's a question of weighing up stability and the potential financial rewards, as well as what a relatively short spell at Chelsea would do for his reputation. Naturally, I hope he stays at Brighton but I can see how tempting an offer from Chelsea would be.

Chelsea hope to appoint Graham Potter as their new manager today.

Potter has indicated he is happy to join after face-to-face talks with Todd Boehly.

According to BBC Sport Graham Potter is set to be appointed as the new manager of Chelsea in the next 24 hours. Personally I think he would have been better off staying with Brighton as you can see something special is happening there at the moment and the club is continuously improving. You just know that he'll end up getting sacked at some point just like all of the previous Chelsea managers before him.

Imagine sacking a Champions League winning coach to go after the manager of... Brighton.

Potter is vastly overrated and is just another flavour of the month manager. Gonna be fun to watch Chelsea's season unfold!

Potter set to be only the third English Chelsea manager since 1993 with Glenn Hoddle and Frank Lampard being the previous English Chelsea manager in the last 29 years.

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers says the club has "been very supportive" and he will not walk away following five losses in a row.

The Foxes are bottom of the Premier League, having claimed one point from six games so far this season and face 17th-placed Aston Villa on Saturday,

Asked whether he has considered his position at the club, Rodgers said no.

The 49-year-old said: "I am not daft, I understand football, it has not been a great start at all."

"But the support shows the level of work we have done here and the appreciation of what we have been through over the course of the summer," added Rodgers. "It's been very supportive."

What do you make of Potter joining Chelsea?

Obviously I'm sad to see him go after he's done such a fantastic job. However, as I've said, I'm sure Tony Bloom and his team will have been tracking potential successors in the full knowledge that Potter was bound to be lured away at some point.

Someone please explain the chosen wording of “head coach” instead of “manager” which sounds much more senior and carries more authority? Who was the last “head coach” of Chelsea to have that title?

I think Potter is a bit different. His background is very different to a lot of coaches of the flavour of the month managers in recent times like Rodgers and Howe. The one thing with Potter is I don't think I've ever seen him have a really bad run of form, so it's unclear how he would react when that happens. I know Brightin had patches where they could not score for love nor money, but they creating the chances and that was clearly down to the personnel rather than the tactics and coaching.

All games this weekend postponed. Gonna be a tall order finding space to play them in an already truncated calendar.
It's like they are just choosing a few things too get cancelled (mainly leisure) but not cancelling everything. It's almost like a punishment for the general public.

Suspect the season might get extended. Anyway, I think this is good from a Liverpool perspective!
