The Premier League has charged Manchester City with more than 100 breaches of its financial rules following a four-year investigation.

It has referred the club to an independent commission over alleged rule breaches between 2009 and 2018.

It also accused City of not co-operating since the investigation started in December 2018.

City said they were "surprised" by the charges and are supported by a "body of irrefutable evidence".

Good to see, Liverpool and United will be league champions a lot of those seasons 😍
Nothing will happen. This story pops up once every 3 or so years and they just get a slap on the wrist every time.

The investigation has taken years and there are a tonne of charges, including some that relate to every season. To have come this far after such a thorough investigation, there will be some form of punishment, possibly a transfer ban type rather than demotion or re-awarding titles, but I'd be amazed if they get off completely scot free. A punishment may also prevent certain other teams pushing things too far as well.

They’ve long taken the absolute piss out of any and all form of financial regulations and are still doing it to this date. Nothing will happen as per but I’d love to see the entire book thrown at them and them relegated back to the bottom of the league pyramid

I’d like to see a total ban on sponsorships from companies that are owned by the same UBO as the football club. It’s just a way of funneling cash into the club behind a mask of a „sponsorship“ that is always well above market value. Across the board that is, not just for the scum.

Chelsea got a 2 window transfer ban for 2 charges. City have got over 100 and they've stopped compling since 2018.

I'd say this is very bad for City, obviously they will have the best lawyers in the world at it, but I think this is the Premier League wagging their muscles to stop other clubs doing it (e.g. Newcastle and there's a big chance a state might invest in Liverpool/Man Utd too). Will take a few years and not sure their titles will get stripped of them, but I suspect a points deduction and a transfer ban to happen. It was well know they tax dodged as well.

Rayo Vallecano have blocked Leeds United's approach for manager Andoni Iraola, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has told BBC Sport.

Iraola, 40, has guided the Madrid side to fifth in La Liga this season, three points off the Champions League places.

He oversaw two victories against Barcelona last term and in November they beat champions Real Madrid 3-2.

Iraola was keen to speak with Leeds, who sacked Jesse Marsch on Monday, but was not granted permission by his club.

You can't see Nathan Jones lasting much longer, Southampton took a punt which hasn't work and has pretty much set them up for relegation unless they make a change soon.

Yeah he's surely gone, although not sure who they will go for? Not sure they have the players for a Big Sam saviour. They could go for Bielsa but knowing he'd start in the Championship.

I'd say normally from here on out Arsenal would throw the title away, but I think a lot of this depends on how City react to the news about them cheating. I've got a funny feeling it might galvanize them.

Also, as much as I hate Chelsea, just how they did nto get a penalty this afternoon!?! Genuinely one of the most baffling decisions I've ever seen.

Could see them going for Espirito Santo, he wants to come back to the Prem apparently.

In fairness to Nathan Jones he’s an excellent manager - brought Luton up the divisions from the national league, is he a premier league manager in not sure. Is it right to judge him or the club certainly Southampton’s fault they are going down.

As far as todays games go, how does Eric Dier continue to start in centr back for spurs? Makes the same mistakes every week!

Southampton have sacked manager Nathan Jones after just three months in charge of the Premier League club.

Former Luton Town boss Jones, 49, leaves with Saints bottom of the table after Saturday's loss to 10-men Wolves.

The Welshman lost nine of the 14 matches he oversaw in all competitions following his appointment on 10 November.

That record included eight defeats in nine Premier League games and four successive home losses at St Mary's.

Video assistant referee operator Lee Mason did not draw the VAR guide lines to check for offside on Brentford's equaliser against Arsenal on Saturday.

Ivan Toney's goal was the subject of a VAR check by Mason following Ethan Pinnock's challenge on Gabriel.

That incident was cleared but there was a suggestion Christian Norgaard was offside in the goal's build-up.

However, Mason did not use the system's lines that would have shown whether the Brentford man was offside or not.

The incident is being put down to human error

And they made a mistake in the Brighton game by drawing the lines on the wrong Palace player. Estupinan's goal should have stood.

But I wish people would stop blaming VAR and instead blame the incompetent idiots using it.

PGMOL can confirm its Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb has contacted both Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to acknowledge and explain the significant errors in the VAR process.
