Posted April 6, 200619 yr from digitalspy: 'Dallas' finds replacement director Thursday, April 6 2006, 09:27 BST - by Daniel Saney Gurinder Chadha is in talks to direct the big screen adaptation of Dallas for 20th Century Fox and New Regency, reports Variety. The Bend It Like Beckham helmer would fill the hole left by Robert Luketic (Monster-in-Law), who had second thoughts over the project due to creative issues. Written by Robert Harling (The First Wives Club), the film will feature performances by Luke WIlson, John Travolta, Jennifer Lopez and Shirley MacLaine. so do you think that this is a bad idea? do you think that movie studios should stop making remakes of old 1970s show? (or do you think Gurinder Chadha should just take the piss and turn it into a bollywood spoof like that bride and prejudice film )
April 6, 200619 yr A very, very bad idea...... And I seriously doubt that Chadha will be allowed to turn it into a Bollywood spoof with an all-Indian cast (which would potentially be utterly hilarious......) because this seems like it's gonna be yet another by-the-numbers Hollywood cash-in like rubbish like "Dukes of Hazzard" and "Starsky and Hutch"......
April 6, 200619 yr Author i think she should go down the route of that opera film that has done a famous opera in a south african language and instead do dallas as a bollywood style musical film but all in russian!
April 6, 200619 yr Why does hollywood persist in turning old TV series into big films, they rarely work, can you think of anyone which was as good as the original series. I can think of a few disasters: The avengers for one. I heard they are releasing Miami Vice in a coulpe of months, and they are making the persuaders as well.

April 6, 200619 yr Miami Vice I have faith in, Michael Mann created the original series, so if he's the helmer, I see no reason that it shouldn't work....
April 6, 200619 yr Author Miami Vice I have faith in, Michael Mann created the original series, so if he's the helmer, I see no reason that it shouldn't work.... and both of them look cool in the photo in empire this month
April 7, 200619 yr Miami Vice I have faith in, Michael Mann created the original series, so if he's the helmer, I see no reason that it shouldn't work.... I hope so as I used to be a big fan of Crocket & Tubbs B)
April 7, 200619 yr how will that work?... dallas was good because of its nonsensical womens bits, and its satirical portrayal of an oil barron personified by larry hagman as jr...
April 8, 200619 yr Priscilla Presley obviously thinks so too. She never hesitated - she just said no. She definitely didn't want to be involved. They'd be better running the old series again on a daily basis, the way they did with Classic Corrie etc. to try to whip up interest again. There must be loads of people who've never seen Dallas. i just can't see anyone other than Larry Hagman as JR. Please tell me John Travolta is not JR. Edited April 8, 200619 yr by Baytree
