Those odds for Serena seem very optimistic

I’m hoping for at least one good run for a British player. At the same time I can see some of them getting a tough draw and going out 1st round (please give Peniston and Draper decent draws!)

Banning players from Russia and Belarus at Wimbledon is "still the right decision" despite a "disproportionate" consequence that competitors will not receive ranking points, says the tournament's chief executive.

The ban - announced following Russia's invasion of Ukraine - and subsequent removal of ranking points have been criticised by some players.

Wimbledon boss Sally Bolton said: "We hugely regret the impact on individual players, but it remains the right decision for us this year."

Tbh I wish tennis players were more empathic and supported the Russian players who are not in fault in here, everyone should have boycotted Wimbledon cos it's a huge stupid biased and wrong decision to not allow the Russian players, like what's your fault if you just happen to be born in Russia?

Andy Murray says he was turned down by a "lot of coaches" before reuniting for a third spell with Ivan Lendl in March.

The partnership previously yielded all of Murray's major wins - two Wimbledon titles, a US Open and two Olympic golds - before his long-running hip issues.

The Scot, 35, is "grateful" Lendl still believes in him and is optimistic of being fit for his Wimbledon opener on Monday after an abdominal strain.

"Obviously having Ivan in my team helps," said Murray.

"We've had a lot of success in the past, we know each other well and he still believes in me. There's not loads of coaches and people out there that have done over this last period, but he has.

Plus there wasn't any massive backlash towards the French or US Open for letting them compete in their tournaments so I really don't understand Wimbledon's stance?

Completely agree with the decision to strip the tournaments of points, especially as it leaves a massive egg on Wimbledon's face when Medvedev ultimately will be the world #1 now. So much for 'limiting Russian influence'.

^Exactly, if something, this is gonna go against the ones competing/defending points, like Djokovic or Berretini

I read in the Italian papers that Djokovic is gonna fall to #7 after Wimbledon cos he loses 2000 points he cannot do anything about

Great start, after 30 min all games suspended cos of rain :D

Already if I had a sip of cider every time the BBC have mentioned Emma Raducanu currently, I'd be on my fourth pint already!

She won't make it past the third round.

Organisers have just confirmed there will be no play on the outside courts until at least 15:30 BST because of rain.

Hubert Hurkacz of Poland is in trouble against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, two sets down. The score is 7-6, 6-4, 5-5. Hurkacz reached the semi-finals last year after that demolition of Roger Federer, and it would be quite a shock should he go out.

Was there anything more solid in the reasoning behind the Russian ban other than not wanting a Royal to potentially have to hand the trophy to one of them?

I don't agree with the ban, but I don't think taking away ranking points was the right move either, although it does look like Raducanu will sneak into the top 10 due to Pliskova dropping finalist points from last year...

yes Raducanu will be #10 after Wimbledon no matter what she does

some thrilling games yesterday, glad Alcaraz won but was too never-wrecking! same with the Hurkacz match, really surprised he's gone

curious to see Serena and Nadal today
