Whole team is a mess just like last season. Man Utd fans campaigned to keep ten Haag for some reason. All he’s done is spend extortionate amounts on average players. There is no structure, no style no nothing.

Spent 500 mill and made the team worse.

Keeper is average the new right back is woeful, de ligt flopped at Juventus and Bayern but Man Utd thought it’d be wise to spend 40 mill on him. Casemiro is finished, zirkzee looks average, Rashford is woeful. I wish I could be optimistic but there is nothing to go on. Antony cost near 100 mill and can’t get a single minute. Sacking ten Haag won’t be cheap since they just gave him a new contract. Man Utd need a miracle

It was not our day today but it's too early to write the season off. Hopefully better results and performances will come as the season goes on.
One thing that is the same every season is starting poorly. Every single year we always have to rescue the season after a terrible start and that is the case once again.

This feels really similar to how we were under Brendan Rogers  Getting rid of Ten Haag means any new manager is left with a lot of rubbish. I actually thought you played quite well in the first half - De Ligt read the game really well and we made some mistakes, I think the difference was we made much better use of sloppy balls.

So many players lost their heads completely after the second goal - but that said not sure too much can be read in to this. There's signs of something, but just not sure the structure Ten Haag is using really suits the players.

Yeh I don’t think De Ligt is a poor player, he’s a good player in fact. Prob hard for him to just walk in for his first appearence today in a big derby. Martinez was like a rabbit in headlights in his first few games!
De Ligt didn’t get a game for Holland at the euros either. Seems odd such a good player keeps being overlooked by numerous managers. The guy is not cut out for the top and was overpriced rubbish as are most Ten Haag signings.
De Ligt did OK, he's certainly better than Maguire, he's quite slow but can definitely read the game well. Probably better with the ball at his feet than Maguire. But the issues today were all with how Utd set up really, he is a good player but jeez Mainoo is hit and miss in this system, he's a proper MOTD player. He was completely vacant in the midfield and not sure the 442 structure really helps that much without one of Bruno/Zirkzee falling back when out of posession. Feel sorry for Ugarte as there's absolutely no way he's going to be able to come in and solve everything!
The best part was ETH telling journos to give him a break he’s won the most trophies after city!!

Zirkzee was not getting a game for Holland over the likes of Depay and Weighorst so his signing was always a bizarre one but for that price it was absurd. He looks like he should be playing for Bounemouth. It was like pinball whenever it went near him. A clear sign of Man Utd’s demise that he was even in consideration. Of course there is a million problems with Man Utd than just individual players but it doesn’t help when you spend over half a billion on players mostly not good enough for Tottenham let alone Man Utd.

I like Mainoo but he’s learning the position and role still and it is hard to do that next to Casemiro who is declining rapidly and in a system with no style or structure. Martinez, mainoo, garnacho after that it’s really just plain average everywhere. Bruno has ability but he’s not up there with truly world class players.

Eth press conference was his usual deluded self, claimed Man Utd couldn’t be bad or they wouldn’t have won the FA cup, seemed to think he’s blameless despite having no improvement on three years and buying every player he’s ever worked with.

Time to accept Rashford is never going to improve. He’s a mid table player who can have a few mini great spells but he belongs in another country or at a Europe chasing team. I saw Man Utd fans putting their ideal front three as Rashford, zirkzee and amad. None of these players even get a look in for their countries. It’s just accepting mediocrity at this point.

Man Utd are now 4/1 to just finish top 4 and really that’s probably generous

I don’t think it’s all as bad as you make out tbh, they will challenge for the top 4 when the players bed in!

We had this kind of start in the 2022/23 season and everyone said the same things, we improved and got 3rd place and won a cup. Only 3 matches have been played so far and to be truthful what really was the expectation for this season? especially after how bad last season was. To go for the league title was never going to be a realistic aim for this season.

Guarantee if we were to go on a winning streak after the international break the conversations will do a 180.

Heard that last season too. It can’t possibly be relegation bad as the squad is worth 1.5 billion or something but for Man Utd’s title ambitions and money spent it’s as bad as it gets. Not fun to watch, no style, a lot of average players and not challenging for major trophies. Right now Man Utd are on the same grouping as spurs villa and Newcastle. Liverpool arsenal and Man City are miles clear.

Just look at attackers.

Salah one of the worlds best

Gakpo star for his country

Diaz his countries best player

Nunez again a great record for his country

Then Man Utd

Rasmus Hoijund couldn’t get a goal at the euros got dropped at the end of last season

Rashford hasn’t played well in about 14 months

Amad flopped at rangers has potential but seems lightweight and could be at club Brugge in a few years

Zirkzee had a few good seasons at Bologna and suddenly finds himself at a club too big for him

The gulf in quality is obscene

Man Utd haven't challenged for the title in over 10 years - they're fully in the same cycle Liverpool were in their era post domination. Surely the immediate aim would be to have some sort of a plan or playing stucture the club want to operate. Ineos are making a lot of the same decisions that FSG made in the early days, some good and some bad. Personally i think Hojlund had the tools to become a good striker.

It's not all doom and gloom, I thought Man Utd have played well in patches in the games I've seen. The only thing I think that is a bit bonkers is I genuinely do not expect Ten Haag to last too long unless the form picks up quickly, as I suspect no CL football next season will not be sustainable financially under the current model. Which then seems bonkers as he's been allowed to buy the entire Ajax defence.

I agree with Roo and Houdini mostly here.

I think United will find form after the Int break (the media need some club to focus on every week) and they have a favourable run of fixtures until mid Oct.

They also arent as bad as is made out and I dont think Liverpool are as good as the first 3 games suggest (just look at Spurs under Ange last year).

Kinda agree with both sides. I'm not surprised at only 3 points as Liverpool are Liverpool and Brighton ALWAYS beat us no matter what so they were 2 nailed on defeats already. However the team is also playing like dog turd and ETH continually picking Rashford and Casemiro every single match it's basically 9 vs 13 from the off. Let's see how Ugarte fares but he's not gonna be able to turn everything around himself (ironically this was exactly the same situation we were in 2 years ago where Casemiro was supposed to be our midfield saviour). And if there's one player we can usually rely on to put in a performance each week it's Bruno but so far he looks disinterested and a shadow of himself.

Will having Ruud van Nistelrooy as assistant manager make any bit of difference this year? I mean look at what he has to work with. I honestly have no hope watching this side and Dobbo is right about setting us up for a numerical disadvantage by continuing to play Rashford in his current form.

It feels strange now to think that last season's goal of the season was scored by Garnacho and he's not really had much chance so far, being subbed midway through the second half drew in a lot of boos.

De Ligt had a nightmare for Holland, two huge mistakes and got taken off at half-time. Another £40 mill well spent
