Christine and the Queens will release an album credited to Chris’ new alter ego Redcar, titled Redcar les Adorables Étoiles, on Sept. 23. He will launch the album with special performances in Paris, at the Cirque d’Hiver on Sept. 22 and 23, and in London, at Royal Festival Hall on Sept. 30. Tickets will go on sale July 21.

 

Last month, Chris released the album’s “Je Te Vois Enfin,” which felt like the spiritual sequel to Chris’ 2020-defining “People, I’ve Been Sad”, since “Je Te Vois Enfin” translates to “I Finally See You.” The track, which Chris sings entirely in French, is more upbeat than “People” with jittery synths soundtracking her layered vocals. Some of the lyrics translate to “My love rhymes with always” and “Oh, my love, here you are/I finally see you.”

 

The song was “imagined, written, produced and performed by Christine and the Queens,” the brainchild of French artist Hélöise Letissier, and mixed by Mike Dean, who has worked with Kanye West and Lana Del Rey. The song introduced Letissier’s “Redcar” persona.

I was going to comment on 'Je Te Vois Enfin' a few weeks ago and was shocked there wasn't a thread for it / this era yet! (Mind, I could have just made one myself x)

 

Fabulous song anyway, loving the slightly lo-fi 80s aesthetic <3 Loved his last EP but I'm yet to actually hear a full album from him so looking forward to this!

Ooh yeah this has gone quite under the radar!

After how well received "People, I've been sad" was I find it odd that we are a month away from this album

with no videos thus far and no promotion at all really.

was wondering, why the album is not in the mids? not even top 100... but looks like the release was postponed and it's no longer coming in Sept but later in the year (Nov 11 in France not sure about the UK)

Tbh I wouldn't be that surprised if this album ends up not charting anyway, there seemed to be very little interest in the lead single (shame as it is a great song).

It was postponed after she injured herself on stage during tour rehearsals

So this is finally out today then... On first listen I'd say it's comfortably his least engaging output to date, I found myself drifting away from it quite a few times. Definitely feels like this is a strange era, I agree with a lot of the reviews out there that it's been really difficult to follow and I don't feel like I've quite understood the Redcar persona at all. There's some nice production flourishes along the way but they feel like disjointed moments rather than completed songs.

I'm finding this kinda underwhelming too. I really wanted to like it - I've loved everything he's put out before, especially the La Vita Nuova EP a couple of years ago, but there isn't much grabbing me here. 'Je te vois enfin' and 'Tu sais ce qu'il me faut' are the highlights for me but even they would rank below everything on La Vita Nuova.

I read that he made a challenge to write a song every day and this is the result of a 13 day writing session where he did that. This is the prologue and then another album is coming out presumably next year.

 

I’ve not listened to the album yet but I definitely haven’t been anywhere near engaged with the singles sadly. Hopefully the second album is the ‘main’ album.

That seems like a ridiculous challenge to set yourself. Forcing yourself to write a song a day isn't necessarily going to result in your best work.

mmm I kinda disagree, my favourite singer Damien Rice, he did that, forcing himself to write 10 songs in 10 days

and it resulted in my #1 song in the history of music, a song called Stoic with the most deep and touching lyrics ever, the #1 lyrics in the history of music imho
