Defending Super Bowl champions the Los Angeles Rams lost their opening game of the NFL season 31-10 against the Buffalo Bills.

 

The score was 10-10 at half-time but the Bills powered ahead in the second half in California.

 

Buffalo quarter-back Josh Allen passed for 297 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for one score.

Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers won their first game of the new NFL season with a dominant defensive display against the Dallas Cowboys.

 

Seven-time Super Bowl winner Brady threw the only touchdown of their 19-3 victory as he became the first 45-year-old starting quarterback in NFL history.

Russell Wilson was booed on his return to the Seattle Seahawks as he made his Denver Broncos debut in a 17-16 defeat.

 

The 33-year-old quarterback left the Seahawks in March in one of the biggest trades in NFL history.

 

Wilson led the Seahawks to back-to-back Super Bowls in 2014 and 2015, winning the former over the Broncos.

 

But his new side could not start the season with a win, as Brandon McManus saw his 64-yard field-goal attempt sail wide with 15 seconds to go.

 

Geno Smith, Wilson's replacement as Seahawks quarterback, made 23 of 28 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns, as he started the season as a team's first-choice quarterback for the first time since 2014, when he was at the New York Jets.

Washington Commanders rookie Brian Robinson has resumed training less than three weeks after he was shot during an attempted armed robbery or carjacking.

 

Robinson had surgery after suffering two gunshot wounds to his glute and leg during the incident on 28 August.

 

"Brian Robinson continues to make progress in his recovery from multiple gunshot wounds," said his team.

 

"He was on a stationary bike Wednesday, and on Thursday he was doing agility drills.

 

"Robinson still has a long way to go, but his progress is certainly incredible."

Tom Brady ended his four-game losing run against the New Orleans Saints as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won an ill-tempered game 20-10.

 

Brady's Buccaneers are joined on 2-0 by the Miami Dolphins after they came from 21 points down in the fourth quarter to stun the Baltimore Ravens in one of a number of big comebacks on Sunday.

 

The Arizona Cardinals came from 20-0 down at half-time to beat the Las Vegas Raiders in overtime, and the New York Jets scored 14 late points to beat the Cleveland Browns.

Another Tom Brady comeback came up just short as his Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers 14-12.

 

Although two of the NFL's greatest ever quarterbacks were the headline act, the two defences dominated in what could be the last meeting between Brady and Rodgers.

 

The other big game of the day saw the Miami Dolphins outlast the Buffalo Bills in the heat of Florida to move to 3-0 for the season.

Chase McLaughlin kicked a 48-yard field goal in overtime to give the Indianapolis Colts a 12-9 win at the Denver Broncos on Thursday.

 

Both teams continued to struggle offensively under new quarterbacks Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson, with all of the points coming from field goals.

 

And Wilson was again booed by the home crowd after throwing an interception as Denver led 9-6 in the fourth quarter.

Travis Kelce became the first player to catch four touchdown passes in 'Monday Night Football' history as the Kansas City Chiefs came from 17-0 down to defeat the Las Vegas Raiders 30-29.

 

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes found the tight end with two passes of one yard, and a four and eight-yard throw.

 

Kelce finished the game with seven catches for 25 yards.

Las Vegas Raiders' Davante Adams has been charged with misdemeanour assault for shoving a photographer as he left the field after Monday's 30-29 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

 

The charge was filed in Kansas City Municipal Court on Wednesday.

 

Ryan Zebley said he suffered whiplash, headaches and possible minor concussion as a result of the shove.

Brian Robinson scored the first regular season touchdown of his career in the Washington Commanders' victory over the Chicago Bears - fewer than two months after he was shot.

 

The 23-year-old suffered two gunshot wounds during an attempted carjacking in Washington DC in August.

 

The running back followed up his maiden start last weekend to score the decisive final points in a 12-7 win.

 

"My biggest goal was to find my way back onto the football field," he said.

 

"I was looking for any opportunity that came my way.

 

"I was ready for it. Every day I came in to get myself ready for an opportunity like this. It wasn't easy."

Josh Allen steered the Buffalo Bills to an enthralling 24-20 victory in Kansas City while both Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers lost on a surprising Sunday in the NFL.

 

Allen threw three touchdowns and outplayed Patrick Mahomes as the Bills gained revenge for last season's epic play-off loss at Arrowhead.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Tom Brady has apologised for comparing playing an NFL season to being in the military.

 

The 45-year-old seven-time Super Bowl winner said in a podcast on Monday: "I almost look at a football season like you're going away on deployment in the military. 'Here I go again'."

 

But on Thursday the quarterback said: "It was a very poor choice of words. I apologise.

 

"I have a tremendous amount of gratitude to everyone who served."

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is set to return to action this weekend, a month after suffering a head injury that led to a change in the NFL's concussion protocols.

 

Tagovailoa hurt his head against the Buffalo Bills on 25 September and was unstable getting back to his feet.

 

However, he was allowed to return to the field to lead his side to victory.

 

He then played against the Cincinnati Bengals four days later, when he left the field with a concussion.

Tom Brady led a fourth-quarter comeback for a record 44th time in his career as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rallied to a 17-16 win over the New Orleans Saints.

 

The Buccaneers trailed 16-3 with three minutes left, before Brady found Cade Otton with a one-yard touchdown pass.

 

With just three seconds on the clock, Brady, 45, picked out Rachaad White for another score before Ryan Succop added the decisive extra point.

 

Brady had been tied with Peyton Manning on fourth-quarter comebacks in the NFL.

 

"It's awesome by our team," quarterback Brady said. "It's a great effort by the defence to hang in there all day.

 

"I missed some throws early, but I'm really proud of our team for hanging in there against a team we've always struggled with."

Quarterback Baker Mayfield led the Los Angeles Rams to a late comeback win against the Las Vegas Raiders - just two days after joining them.

 

Mayfield joined the Carolina Panthers in July but they agreed to release the former number one draft pick on Monday.

 

The following day he was signed by the Rams and on Thursday he led two late touchdown drives as last season's Super Bowl winners snatched a 17-16 win.

Two more thrilling overtime games saw the Kansas City Chiefs avoid a huge upset to book their play-off spot while the Dallas Cowboys suffered a shock defeat at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

 

The Jaguars scored with a late pick six as Dallas blew a 17-point lead.

 

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers also gave up the same lead as Tom Brady collected some unwanted records as he lost to Joe Burrow's in-form Cincinnati Bengals.

 

Jalen Hurts ran the Philadelphia Eagles to a 13th win of the season.

The Saints can finally relax knowing that they no longer hold the record for having the biggest lead at half time (35 - 7) and yet end up losing the game (35 - 38) in regular season history. (7th December 1980)
