2004 definitely not the best year for albums, I was convinced some great albums had made #1 like Franz Ferdinand

or Snow Patrol-Final Straw but they didn't

At least 205 already started better with Killers and Chemical Bros

I decided to check out the first Scissor Sisters album this morning off the back of yesterday's session and enjoyed it! The back-to-back of 'It Can't Come Quickly Enough' and 'Return To Oz' were my favourite album track discoveries. I think it'd be a good one to cover for the album sessions in the 2000s forum at some point.
Bruce Gowers died last month. Who he? He directed the video for Bohemian Rhapsody. I know we have already heard it (twice) in the number one singles sessions but surely the video's part in music history merits another play.
I'm tempted to suggest that the number ones should finish early this week in order to allow time for a proper tribute to Burt Bacharach (even though several of his songs featured in the singles sessions).
I agree - would suggest maybe half an hour dedicated to his greatest hits

I mean, how is this for a half hour playlist - all Top 40 songs with no #1s or #2s

1963 Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa - Gene Pitney #5

1964 Walk On By - Dionne Warwick #9

1964 Wishin’ and Hopin’ - The Merseybeats #13

1964 Message to Martha - Adam Faith #12

1965 Trains and Boats and Planes - Burt Bacharach #4

1965 What’s New Pussycat - Tom Jones #11

1966 Alfie - Cilla Black #9

1968 Do You Know the Way to San Jose - Dionne Warwick #8

1968 I Say a Little Prayer - Aretha Franklin #4

1968 This Guy’s in Love with You - Herb Alpert #3

1969 Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head - BJ Thomas #38

1970 Close to You - The Carpenters #6

1973 The Look of Love - Gladys Knight & the Pips #21

1981 Arthur’s Theme - Christopher Cross #7

1982 That’s What Friends Are For - Dionne Warwick & Friends #16

1989 Don’t Make Me Over - Sybil #19

1995 Baby It’s You - The Beatles #7

1995 Always Something There to Remind Me - Tin Tin Out #14

2003 I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself - White Stripes #13

I'm all for more than one song as a tribute, but 19? Don't see how that totals a half hour playlist, unless some of those songs are very short

I'd suggest between 5-10 songs - the ones I'd prioritise are: Gene Pitney, Dionne Warwick - Walk On By, Burt, Aretha, Herb Alpert, The Carpenters, Christopher Cross, The Beatles - just Top 10 hits there. Possibly The White Stripes, though Dusty's is the definitive and higher charting version.

Maybe everyone at the listening session could nominate an individual song he has written to be played if they wish to? A bit like what we did for the last #1 singles session.

Yeah sorry I meant select from those tracks for a half hour playlist haha.

My request from the list would be BJ Thomas.

That's an incredible list but a good deal longer than 30 minutes.

We should definitely include White Stripes as an example of how his songs could be updated and still sound fantastic.

Walk On By would be my (first) choice

The Stranglers version of Walk On By is another example of a completely different version also being great. That said, the Dionne Warwick version has to be the definitive version and the one to play.

I'm fine with us queueing a handful of songs to tribute Burt if we want (especially as again I don't think there have been any other especially notable deaths this week, so far at least) but I don't really want to deviate from scheduling 3 hours' worth of #1 album songs. I could maybe start half an hour earlier?
