I feel a bit sorry for Southgate. He has a job that every fan thinks they can do better and no-one is ever going to fully agree. He’s the only manager since I’ve been alive that has made the England squad look like they want to be together and has reached a semi-final and a final. Something that felt miles off under the last so many managers. He gets more stick than he deserves. The last Nations League is the only time we’ve not performed under him.

I think the squad is pretty decent. The only ones that I personally think don’t deserve to be there are Dier & Gallagher. I think we would have been better in calling up someone like Dan Burn who can cover LB as well seeming that we only have one natural LB in the squad. And Gallagher has done nothing since going back to Chelsea. I’d have preferred to see Ward-Prowse. He hasn’t had a great season but he offers something different with his set pieces.

I think the discourse around Maguire is a bit much. He would be one of my first picks, not for his club form but because he had been a key-performer for England over a long period of time and we need to keep some consistency. A major tournament is not the time to try and throw in a bunch of players who haven’t played together.

I am shocked there’s no Abraham after he’s been a constant for the last four or five squads.

Agree wholeheartedly with this, think back to the exit against Iceland in 2016 and look at the team England had then and they are miles away from that low and that is because of the manager creating a club mentality within the team and it’s hard to do as the many failures have shown.

It’s funny how now there is expectation everyone knows better than the manager.

Agree I would have put Dan Burn in for his versatility and would have stuck with Walker given his experience despite the injuries. Maybe only Wilson raises an eyebrow but he’s a proven goal scorer the likes of Bowen etc haven’t really fully convinced about yet.

Southgate was always going to have a hard job and get slated for leaving/taking players. With a squad of 26 you can afford to take a couple of non-fit players. I think the issue is with this team, is we actually have some excellent attacking players, but we play such a turgid brand of football and don't really have any standout defenders. I've really low expectations for this England side anyhow, we don't have too many players in great form and I don't think this team is that good. Suspect we'll get a tough draw somewhere and get knocked out - no shame in that, this was never a World Cup we were likely to do that well in imo, the conditons out there are very much against us.
