Now that Ken has left Radio 2 there is a PopMaster break until April 3rd, where it'll restart on its new home at Greatest Hits Radio.

 

So... see you guys here again in a month! It's been a fun Radio 2 era in this thread.

It appears that Radio 2 have already brought in their PopMaster rip-off quiz then titled Ten To The Top so I guess we can use this thread for that now?

 

Scoring works as such: 1 point for question 1, 2 points for question 2 etc. but if you get a question wrong you go back to 1 point for the following question

I'm from Spain and I had never ever in my life heard about that person ;D

you need a spreadsheet to play this game. The term "convoluted" springs to mind...

 

Got total marks on round 1 whatever that is, I would always opt to play the Joker on q10.

 

which didnt pay off in r2. I too have no memory of that record by Juan Martin. I mean I wrote the charts down every week, listened to the radio, and I still dont remember him. I know the TV show - Richard Chamberlain starred. The music was composed by the late brilliant Henry Mancini. But this quick cash in cover came and went very quickly! Hit number 10 apparently. Flamenco guitarist. TV show was set in Australia. Henry Mancini didn't get a hit out of it.

Unless Ken Bruce actually cam up with the format, I'm surprised he owns the rights to it. It's hardly a surprise that the BBC are trying to come up with a format that keeps listeners loyal to Radio 2 rather than defecting to a station they had previously never heard of.

Caught up with the final Radio 2 PopMaster :snif: I guess this new Radio 2 quiz will do as a fill in to avoid trivia quiz withdrawals, it is an interesting spin on the format (particularly with the 'joker' element). Looking forward to PopMaster's return though. Hope it should still have an easily accessible podcast / catchup format, not really familiar with how Greatest Hits Radio works! I see Ten to the Top has just inherited the same page as the PopMaster podcast.

Jocelyn Brown's name just wasn't coming to mind, I could only think of Jocelyn Alice of Harmonica BJSC fame, also should have got 'Instant Replay' as that's another one that was in the #1 albums sessions

. Nice easy 3 in 10 to finish on too.

I didn't actually use a Joker on the first round, hadn't yet decided what strategy to use :lol: so theoretically could have got a 13 but realistically I'd probably have Jokered on the last question which I got wrong anyway. I did use the Joker on the last question in round 2 ofc.

I didn't immdiately recognise the name Kim Carnes but then was an 'oh yeah' moment when I heard the song title. For 'Suddenly' I said 'Crazily' oop, knew it was an adverb of some sort

Well I was on a good run with the first four questions and then it all went downhill :lol:

Find this very difficult, mostly cos there are so many questions about the 70s and early 80s so for me it's totally impossible to get more than 3 in a row

Also miss the 3 in10 last bit, think they should come up with a sorta similar thing, lacks something as it is right now...

The contestant also got 65 on Round 1 - did it sound like she got some answers suspiciously late, I'm not sure. A lot of "name the artist" questions anyway which you either know or you don't, whereas Popmaster questions were a bit more varied and with the year questions for example you could always make an informed guess.
