Marie’s Rock made a winning return to action as she surged to victory in the Grade 2 Dornan Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham for trainer Nicky Henderson and jockey Nico de Boinville.

Owned by Middleham Park Racing, Marie’s Rock raced enthusiastically on her first start since winning the Grade 1 mares champion hurdle at Punchestown in April, which came a month after her success in the Grade 1 Mares’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Money clearly talks. The Lincoln Handicap, the first big race of the Flat turf season, had its prize fund boosted from £100,000 to £150,000 and has bucked the recent trend by attracting a record entry.

Just 62 horses were put in the Doncaster showpiece last year, while only eight went to post for the Spring Mile reserve race, whose purse has also been upped from £45,000 to £75,000.

Gordon Elliott on GERRI COLOMBE:

"Before today I was thinking trying to qualify him for the National Hunt Chase.

"It looks like we are going to be tight for that now, but he looks made for the Brown Advisory doesn’t he? I would say that’s where we’ll go."

State Man is way too good for Honeysuckle and Vauban in the Irish Champion Hurdle!

Facile Vega is well beaten at Leopardstown as stablemate Il Etait Temps takes the Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle!

Thought Facile Vega was a bit of a softish fav at the price mate but would never have had Il Etait Temps as the one to beat him, properly rated Irish Point and Inthepocket and not too sure what to make of their runs either

Gentleman De Mee stunned stablemate Blue Lord in the Ladbrokes Dublin Chase, winning for Danny Mullins who replaced the injured Mark Walsh just before the race.

The Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old travelled best throughout the Grade 1 contest, was pushed out just before the last and was always in control as Blue Lord finished second.

The favourite was sent off at odds of 1-4 while Gentleman De Mee was recording his first victory of the season.

Paddy Power shortened the winner to 5-1 (from 50s) for the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival next month.

I thought State Man was impressive and is 5/2 for the Cheltenham version- not sure I'd have Constitution Hill at 1/4 fav for the race.

Honeysuckle received a spine-tingling roar of appreciation from the stands on the way to the start, and another full-throated cheer as she returned to the unsaddling enclosure. This could well be the last time she is seen on a track, however, with Kenny Alexander, her owner, suggesting afterwards that a decision on whether to retire her will rest with Blackmore and Henry de Bromhead, her trainer.

“She ran her heart out but it wasn’t good enough and age catches up with everyone,” Alexander said. “She’s been an amazing horse to own and today there’s just younger, more progressive horses. I just want to get her out in one piece. If this is it, this is it. If Henry and Rachael want to give her a spin around to the Mares’ [Hurdle at Cheltenham], I’ll say go for it.”

Arkle favourite Jonbon is on course to make his final appearance before the Cheltenham Festival in Saturday's Kingmaker Novices' Chase (2.40), where he could face four rivals.

Jonbon has sparkled in two runs over fences this season, winning at Warwick on his chasing debut before a dominant win over Boothill in the Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown, and is a general 11-8 shot for the Arkle.

Irish trainer Gordon Elliott faces a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday over a positive drugs test for one of his horses at last year's Cheltenham Festival.

Zanahiyr finished third behind Honeysuckle in the Champion Hurdle.

But the horse tested positive post-race for 3-hydroxylidocaine and could now be disqualified.

The substance, a metabolite of Lidocaine, is often used in racing stables as a local anaesthetic.

Leading Champion Chase contender Edwardstone is recovering from a bruised foot sustained in his last run, but Alan King believes the small setback will not alter his Cheltenham Festival preparation.

The nine-year-old was lame for most of last week following his defeat to Editeur Du Gite by a head in the Grade 1 Clarence House Chase at Cheltenham on January 28.

X-rays did not find any further damage and he was reshod on Monday with his trainer confident he should make his March 15 target, providing he avoids any further problems.

King, writing in his Weekender column, said: "Edwardstone was unfortunately lame for most of last week. I’m pleased to say he has a shoe back on now but he had a bruised foot after his run in the Clarence House at Cheltenham.
