July 3, 20232 yr Best driver: Norris Worst driver: Tsunoda Best team: Red Bull Worst team: Haas Best overtake: Sainz on Norris Worst overtake: Perez on Sainz (embarrassing to take so long to overtake with a vastly superior car) Best moment: 4 way fight at turn 4 Worst moment: Hulk retiring (deserved better after exemplary weekend up to that point) Best thing about the race: Track limit pens were hilarious Worst thing about the race: Leclerc not even trying to defend P1 as it's futile And the race in a sentence: Half the grid got penalised. Verstappen simply MAX-imised
July 3, 20232 yr Aston Martin whining to gain one solitary point for Stroll. Huge success guys! The track limits at the end of the lap of A1ring have always been a joke because the curb there is just so wide and has asphalt after it, it makes it so easy to ride and float over. If they actually want to stop it then F1/FIA needs to get over their allergy to Grass and Gravel. Even when you drive it in the F1 game or Gran Turismo or something, it’s one of the easiest corners in both games to get a track limit pen on

You could argue that it is only fair for the drivers who did abide by track limits. It's not like the whole grid doesn't know the deal here. It's messy for sure but I'm not sure that gravel is an option as bike racing is a regular event at the track. Sausage kerbs are a big no-no so I don't know what the solution is. Triggering a sensor that cuts engine power for a timed duration would but fun but I doubt it's workable
July 3, 20232 yr Best driver: Verstappen Worst driver: Ocon (couldn't appear to stay on the track at all) Best team: Red Bull Worst team: Haas Best overtake: Verstappen on Leclerc (both tried to catch out the other but Max was smarter) Worst overtake: Perez on Sainz (embarrassing to take so long to overtake with a vastly superior car) Best moment: Sainz V Perez Worst moment: VSC called seconds after Ferrari pass the pit entry when it was the obvious call 20 seconds earlier Best thing about the race: Loads of battles throughout the field Worst thing about the race: The delay in enforcing penalties And the race in a sentence: Track lines matter

Sausage kerbs are a big no-no so I don't know what the solution is. Triggering a sensor that cuts engine power for a timed duration would but fun but I doubt it's workable I understand the fairness point, but I think quite a few of the violations were inadvertent. Saw quite a bit of back-end sliding and then ending up with all tyres over the line. The nature of the circuit and those corners means it’s just so easy to do I’d agree sausage curbs are a no go, we’ve seen the consequences of those with ground effect cars and it’s not ideal. Tho it would certainly stop them riding the curb if it pinged them off backwards into the wall!! The FIA wants gravel and I agree. The problem as I see it is the blue/white Kerb extends the available space to more than a car width. I would rip it out and replace that space with gravel. But do it in such a way that when the bikes are back they can cover the gravel with the Kerb extension
July 3, 20232 yr I would rip it out and replace that space with gravel. But do it in such a way that when the bikes are back they can cover the gravel with the Kerb extension That seems a sensible idea but only if it can be implemented in a way that guarantees it is fully secured down. A lose cover would be very dangerous for a car but potentially deadly for a bike rider.
July 4, 20232 yr I assume given the number of temporary street circuits that exist in Motorsport that there will be some off the shelf system available to them. Will be quite interesting to see how the circuit reacts and if they do actually make any changes While we are talking about circuit changes, what do we all think of the call from Lance Stroll for changes to Spa following the fatal accident at the weekend. Personally, I don’t think that that is the right answer in this case. The accident happened along the straight, and maybe you could widen the run off or perhaps slope it downwards so cars lose more momentum and can’t bounce back onto the track. But it feels like poor visibility is the primary contributing factor here and the thing that should be more urgently solved
July 4, 20232 yr Having seen the footage it's pretty clear that the biggest factor is lack of visibility especially considering he was running in 19th and the amount of spray generated by the cars in front. There's an argument too that the more challenging circuits should be held back until drivers are more experienced i.e. F2 and up only. I've walked the Kemmel straight and there's isn't that much room to extend the run offs without cutting in to the forest but there is enough for a few more metres which they may look at. Although it is among the deadliest circuits in the world (both historically and currently) it is also considered by many to be the greatest in existence, even in its modern configuration and for that reason alone it must be kept on the calendar, whatever the financial cost. Also, Verstappen is right when he says that Jeddah (for example) is more dangerous than Spa. We've just been lucky there so far.
July 4, 20232 yr Only thing that sprang to mind was an extra chicane like they did in the 1994 season when sweeping changes were made in the wake of Imola. But I'd rather they don't alter the configuration too much. Can't blame the weather really as the Hubert crash was in the dry. It really is just cars bouncing back across a circuit and getting T-boned which is the most precarious situation for a driver and one that the monocoques as brilliant as they are are not equipped to withstand such a high impact. There's no obvious answer unfortunately.
July 5, 20232 yr Provisional 2024 calendar is out. 2 Saturday races to start off the season! Baku & Japan have more or less switched and Imola & China (for now) have returned in the only changes to this year's.
July 5, 20232 yr That's what I read yes. Presumably Bahrain had to move to Saturday as well or else there'd only be 6 days between the first 2 race days.
