Nelly Furtado feat Timbaland-Promiscuous http://lettersfrommusic.up.seesaa.net/image/promiscuous.jpg Chart Run: 16-10-7-7-10-17-17-7-[2]-3-3-5-3-7-5-4-7-10-15-20 Info: More Nelly to start the top 10 of the year!!! The follow up to the amazing Maneater this was a No.1 in the US and came first over there...It was a slow burner in my chart but went on to peak at No.2 and spent a total of 15 weeks in my top 10 far outdoing Maneater in chart longevity!!! 9. Daz Sampson-Teenage Life http://www.eurovision.tv.edgesuite.net./english/img/06_uk_2006_right.jpg Chart Run: 12-4-4-2-[1]-1-1-3-4-5-9-16 Info: The first Eurovision song to finish in the year end top 10 since 2003's Birgitta, the UK entrant Daz Sampson better known for his work with Bus Stop and Uniting Nations launched a heap of novelty cheese onto us in May...the song was absolutely unique, excellent, had mass appeal...and flopped in the contest...still it made the UK top 10!!!

Singles 8. The Veronicas-4Ever http://karinski.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/veronicas.jpg Chart Run: 18-2-[1]-1-6-6-5-6-5-2-6-7-10-13-16 Info: The first of two songs in the top 10 that was a big Australian hit in 2005, 4Ever was twin sisters The Veronicas debut single...A Kelly Clarkson-ish type of pop song that leaves an instant impression, it was one of my anthems of the year spending 2 weeks at the top and 12 weeks in the top 10 in early 2006!!! 7. Cascada-Everytime we touch http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/3082/cascada9nm.jpg Chart Run: 13-5-5-10-OUT-15-OUT-17-5-6-8-7-[2]-3-7-7-9-12-15-11-13-16-18) Info: One of 2006's most unpredictable hits, the song made my top 5 at the start of the year before the video and UK promo pushed it as high as No.2 in my chart in the summer...a great return for europop cheese trance, the German band consisting of producer Yanou and singer Natalie Horler had a great 2006!!!

Singles 6. Lily Allen-Smile http://www.mtv.co.uk/files/library/images/artist/lily_allen/252/1.jpg Chart Run: [1]-1-1-1-1-2-2-3-6-10-14-18 Info: One of my defining songs of summer 2006, Lily Allen took her pop ska anthem Smile to No.1 in my chart a few weeks before it hit the same heights in the UK chart...The anthem is a joy to listen to and always makes me Smile!!! Just missing out on the top 5 of the year, Lily and her antics will definitely be remembered... 5. Nerina Pallot-Everybody's gone to war http://www.birmingham101.com/music/Nerina%20Pallot.jpg Chart Run: 2-[1]-1-2-1-1-3-2-4-5-7-8-11-20 Info: Climbing to No.1 on its second week in the chart to spend a total of 10 weeks in the top 5, UK singer Nerina Pallot had a mildly successful 2006 with this becoming a top 15 hit in the UK. An anthem if ever there was one, Nerina sounded American on this release but the Sheryl Crow esque power of this catchy song has made this a classic in my eyes!!!

Shakira-Oral Fixation Vol.2 http://www.elsiglodetorreon.com.mx/images/news/espectaculos/2005/06/4a520405887bdbffdea474451e5b221c.jpg Chart Run: 3-[1]-1-1-1-2-3-3-4-5-6-6-7-7-8-9-9-10-8-10-11-12-13-11-11-13-8-6-6-8-11-14-13-14-13-13-3-1-1-1-3-5-6-7-7-11-13-13-13-11-12-12-11 Info: An astounding year for one of 2002's biggest acts, Colombian hip swiveller Shakira, the sequel to her 2005 Spanish release Fijacion Oral Vol.1, unsurprisingly translated to Oral Fixation gave the star a huge No.1 album in my chart that I bought no less than 3 different times when re-released constantly...A powerful collection with some very controversial tracks and some uplifting pop that only Shakira could do...A true classic if not quite as good as 2002's Laundry Service... Singles 4. Carrie Underwood-Jesus Take The Wheel http://www.nsuok.edu/news/images/carrie/carriemug.jpg Chart Run: 12-4-2-2-2-4-4-[1]-1-2-4-5-8-9-12-14-18 Info: More from the 2005 American Idol winner, Carrie's US release Jesus Take The Wheel was huge there topping the Country charts for a record number of weeks. A gorgeous ballad with religious lyrics, it really highlights the power in Carrie's voice and is the highlight of album Some Hearts...the song had spent 6 weeks in my top 5 before escalating to No.1 and it is a worthy entrant in my top 5 of 2006!!! 3. Rogue Traders-Voodoo Child http://www.ntnews.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,1658,5082729,00.jpg Chart Run: 18-4-[3]-6-6-4-4-3-3-6-6-6-8-9-9-10-11-13-15-16-19 Info: The ultimate dance song of 2006, it was actually a huge hit in Rogue Traders' native Australia in 2005...Fronted by Neighbours actress Natalie Bassingthwaite (Izzy), this was another of my big summer hits spending no less than 15 weeks in the top 10!!! Though never reaching No.1 or No.2 this song outperformed most other songs this year and ends up in my top 3 of the year as an incredibly memorable anthem!!!

A debut from a reality TV winner you would usually not expect great things from but there are no covers on here...all of the songs have been done first by Carrie and nearly every song is a perfect blend of pop and country that soundtracked my year...The album spent an astonishing 19 weeks in my top 3 hitting No.1 for 6 weeks on 4 separate occasions...The songs on this album are incredibly well produced, very well sung and weave their way around your mind...If there was any justice Carrie would have success worldwide not just in the US where she's already sold over 4 million copies of this album because Carrie brings country to a new audience!!! Singles 2. All Saints-Rock Steady http://www.20minutos.es/data/img/2006/11/20/532321.jpg Chart Run: 2-[1]-1-1-2-1-1-1-1-3-4-5 Info: Now this is what I call a comeback single!!! Their comeback may have been seen by critics as a flop or as a bandwagon jumper but Rock Steady showed that Shaznay Lewis should never let her songwriting talents go to waste. A song that caught me almost instantly, the insanely catchy pop-ska mix was compared to everyone from Girls Aloud to Lily Allen but outdid both of those in my chart this year by storming to No.1 for a total of seven weeks!!! 1. Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean-Hips Don't Lie http://shakira.com/yahoo/art/maintop_left.jpg Chart Run: 20-9-11-19-17-7-10-18-20-19-15-5-8-8-4-2-2-2-2-2-[1]-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-3-3-2-4-5-7-8-9-10-13-14-16 Info: Well it had to win...The song of the spring, summer, autumn and winter, I first heard Shakira's Hips don't lie in February...It was a low quality version of an old Wyclef Jean song Dance Like This with added vocals from Shakira herself. Not on my recent purchase Oral Fixation Vol.2 I wondered if this would be released at all in the UK after her minor top 10 hit Don't Bother in January...The song crept into my top 20 and spent its first 4 months hovering around between low top 5 and the foot of the top 20. That was when I saw the video and heard the high quality version and everything fell into place...the song launched up to No.2 for 5 weeks behind Lily Allen's Smile and looked like a runner up forever when the following week Lily and Shakira swapped places and the Hips finally made No.1...The song spent 10 weeks as my No.1, has become my longest running hit ever by a mile, has topped the charts worldwide including 5 weeks in tthe UK where it spun to No.1 on virtually no airplay and topped the charts twice!!! It truly was one of the 2 dominating songs of 2006 (along with Crazy) and I still think it is musical perfection...Not just the song of 2006 but probably the song of the decade :-)
