Just remembered this one, was the follow up the 'Crazy' and did make the top 10 and spent 8 weeks top 40 but I doubt it's even recalled much.

On the back of it criminally exiting the Survivor in the 1st round, I feel moved to take a moment to appreciate the brilliance of this superb piece of East meets West culture.

The first YouTube comment I read sums it up perfectly:

“This song was so underrated… that beat… that rap verse… they don’t make singles like this anymore”.

That result in the survivor was so unjust! Like was said the thread, it was massive at the time. I remember that summer it was all over the radio, playing from everyone's car etc and I haven't really heard it in the wild since.

Also really interested to know what happened to her after this, was there even a follow-up single?

IIRC, the song used an uncleared sample and I think radio stations were eventually barred from playing Addictive when it was ongoing. I assume it really hurt anything else they tried to release.

ETA: she did get a follow up - a feature with R Kelly called "The Truth"; only it was released as R Kelly's first round of charges for the child sexual abuse video / images surfaced... so yeah, it seems like bar the initial hit of Addictive, she had pretty rotten luck.

Yeah I mentioned a lot of it in the commentary I did this week for it. Was a court case involved surrounding using some other artists music which I guess killed her career off oops.

It's one of those very rare songs that - as far as I can see - has never been included on any sort of compilation album either.

So in any retrospectives it has just been completely forgotten about, initially I guess due to the sample issues but it's never really played on the radio/in clubs etc. You'd never know it was an enduring top three hit.

There was another similarish sounding hit the year after by Erick Sermon called React who'd also go down as bit of a one-hit wonder though he did have one other top 40 hit 2 years before.

Anyone remember this trance song? Peaked at #21 in 2000 but was re-released 2 years later and made the top 10.

A festive one.

Reached No.5 in 2005, I don't remember this at all:

Alex Day - Forever Yours - No.4 at Christmas 2011

I think I may have bought this at the time!

I prefer Basshunter's version which was #35 3 years later :magic:

I prefer it to 'Crazy'. I remember 'Smiley Faces' was danced to on Strictly Come Dancing quite a bit (not much recently probably though)

One of quite a few forgotten trance top 20s in early 2002, there was also Lange ft Skye -Drifting Away, Tillmann Uhrmacher - On The Run, 4 Strings - Take Me Away, Minimalistix - Close Cover and Dreamcatcher - Don't Want To Lose My Way.
