January 6, 200718 yr Well Mottola had 1 winning formula and tried to pass off the rest of his artists as the same. Did any of them work? :) One worked: Celine
January 7, 200718 yr Oh he was Mottola's? I thought Celine was around well before Mariah anyway...
January 7, 200718 yr Oh he was Mottola's? I thought Celine was around well before Mariah anyway... Not singing in English though. All her English-language success was after Mariah's - only a few years after, mind. I always thought there were similarities in their careers.
January 7, 200718 yr A bit yeah I agree, the biggest similarity being that they're both known for their huge ballads. ^_^
January 7, 200718 yr Author :o I never knew Celine was a Mottola creation! I have to thank him though because without him we may never have had songs like Hero, cause Mariah wrote that song for Gloria Estefan, but Tommy demanded she kept it ... She didn't want to!
January 9, 200718 yr Didn't she write that for Whitney? I'm absolutely sure it was for Whitney...
January 9, 200718 yr Author Nope! Was Gloria Estefan, I'm almost 100% sure :|... I should check Wiki
January 17, 200718 yr Author I shall, this is what I found... Hero" was not originally intended to have been recorded by Carey. She and Afanasieff had been asked by producers of the Dustin Hoffman film Hero (1992) to write a song for its soundtrack to be recorded by Gloria Estefan. During the studio recording of "Hero", Sony/Columbia executive Tommy Mottola (who was also Carey's husband) heard the track and encouraged Carey to save it for herself. Carey was initially reluctant, as she had written the lyrics of the song for someone else and made them, in her words, "schmaltzy". That's the 2nd great thing Tommy did for her career ^_^
