Posted December 28, 200618 yr So I was just scanning through some stuff and found my 'Top 20 Acts To Look Out For In 2006' which I compiled this time last year. As always half of them haven't been heard of since but some have become quite popular. Just thought some of you may be interested. 1. Fall Out Boy - Massive. Jumped on the 'emo-pop' bandwagon and became the new craze for the eyeliner brigade to cum over. 2. Editors - Managed to get another 3 top 40s this year but not as big as I expected. 3. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - 2006 was supposed to be their year but it never happened. 4. iForwardRussia! - Got 2 lower-end top 40s but never really took off. 5. The Kooks - I think we ALL know how this one ended up. 6. Mystery Jets - Was so close to getting a top 20 hit at the begining of 2006. Their incessant ramblings didn't reall spill over into the end of 2006. 7. Bullet For My Valentine - Two top 40s but they never become what we all thought they would. 8. Louis XIV - Their album is still shifting quite a bit apparently but they never scored any top 40s. I seem to recall 'Finding Out True Love Is Blind' coming incredibly close though. 9. Guillemots - Successful. Not massive. 2006 was a productive year for them. Still tipping them to be massive next year. 10. Kubb - Faded away after 'Grow' went top 20 in the early stages of 2006. 11. The Young Knives - 3 singles that charted at 35, 36 and 38. Could've done better but their style isn't mainstream enough. 12. The Rakes - Scored a big hit with 'All Too Human' in March and then nothing. A new album on the way. 13. We Are Scientists - Two top 30 hits. Despite being one of the worst acts ever to grace my ears. 14. Test Icicles - Split. 15. Morning Runner - Minimal success. 16. Be Your Own Pet - One top 40 hit in March. Not heard anything since. 17. Kubichek! - Nothing. 18. Crimea - Had minor success with 'Lottery Winners On Acid' but nothing worth talking about. 19. White Rose Movement - Did f*ck all. 20. The Duels - As above. My Top 20 Acts To Look Out For In 2007 will be coming soon btw ^_^
December 29, 200618 yr white rose movement had some succes on the london gig scene, and had a bit of succes with girls in the back (which i of course, brought all the versions of just to show my support)
December 29, 200618 yr Author white rose movement had some succes on the london gig scene, and had a bit of succes with girls in the back (which i of course, brought all the versions of just to show my support) Charts-wise though they did nothing of merit. Girls In The Back failed to reach top 75 didn't it?
December 29, 200618 yr 14. Test Icicles - Split. [ ooh, i was wondering why they disappeared after the big fuss in 2005... ah well, didn't like them anyway
December 30, 200618 yr To be fair NOTHING in that list was really mainstream enough [nor were many of them on a big enough label] to score a big hit. "Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!" did manage to shift 200k [and hence go gold] with their debut...shocking considering it was released limtedly and they've had NO mainstream promo. They're releasing their follow-up next month, DEFFO one to watch next year...

December 30, 200618 yr and obv you want those critically acclaimed acts around, you know the ones that skim the bottom of the 40 and dont get overplayed on local daytime radio and the hits. Exactly. And most of those acts are reflected here. They simply don't have the ability to go mainstream be it for financial or sound reasons.
December 30, 200618 yr I recently discovered 'Girls In The Back' by White Rose Movement. It's excellent, shame it didn't do anything. :( They supported Placebo at some gigs this year I think...
December 30, 200618 yr I think because of my involvement with this site in 2006, I have lost a bit of my natural interest for Indie/Rock music which I've always liked since listening to the likes of Kid Jenson & Janice Long as well as "Saint" John Peel from the mid 1980s. While in the 1990s, I spent a lot of evenings listening to Jo Whiley & Steve Lamacq, but I've taken my eye of the Indie/Rock ball in the last 12 months so I'm determined to get back to my Alternative roots in 2007.

January 7, 200718 yr Bullet For My Valentine  I'm surprised you included them! :o Very underated band - have the album - deserve much much more. -_- Fall Out Boy were $h!t and their lame comeback is even worse. Don't see why anyone would like them but then my music taste is awful. :smoke:
January 7, 200718 yr 1. Fall Out Boy - Massive. Jumped on the 'emo-pop' bandwagon and became the new craze for the And now, they want to jump off the "Emo" bandwagon because it's no longer the 'in' thing.... Doubtless they'll jump on the next bandwagon that comes along.... Detest this band with a passion....
