Saw this crop up for pre-order earlier - presumably before it was meant to, as they posted a social media teaser video to announce it all next week yesterday.

Texas' The Very Best Of 1989 - 2023, is a career spanning collection of their work. It features 24 tracks and two brand new singles, "After All" and "Keep On Talking".

TRACK LISTING

CD1

1. Say What You Want

2. Black Eyed Boy (Radio Edit)

3. Inner Smile

4. Mr Haze

5. Halo

6. I Don't Want a Lover

7. Summer Son

8. Keep on Talking

9. The Conversation

10. In Our Lifetime

11. In Demand

12. Put Your Arms Around Me

CD2

13. Let's Work It Out

14. When We Are Together

15. Hi (Single Mix)

16. Say What You Want (All Day Every Day)

17. Tired of Being Alone

18. Start a Family

19. So Called Friend

20. Everyday Now

21. Insane

22. After All

23. Sleep

24. So in Love with You

Not quite their full singles as all of the ones from "Careful What You Wish For" and most from "Red Book" are missing. But if it means another tour I'm here for that cause I love Sharleen Spiteri's voice and would give my eye teeth to see her live.

Funnily enough Red Book is my fave of their albums so leaving off those singles (bar Sleep) is a choice for me. Getaway is excellent and Can't resist too... that era deserved a lot more success.

I hate that they’ve just erased Carnival Girl like it never happened, I love that track and it was a top ten!

Interested to hear the new tracks anyway, Hi and Mr Haze were two of their best in a long time.

As it's a 2 CD collection, there's enough room for including all the singles. <_<

"Careful What You Wish For" and "Red Book" saw more success than their newer albums anyway.

Bad decision!

This! Likewise with "Getaway", that was a top 10 as well!

Yes it being released on vinyl too

Maybe that's why just 24 tracks were chosen.

Shame to see both 'Getaway' and 'Can't Resist' omitted, I mean who even knows or remembers 'The Conversation'?

I know 'Sleep' was the big hit from the Red Book era so I can see why they included it, but it really is awful. :(

Sleep is one of my favourites

I wouldn't say it was a bit hit at all tbh, it charted at #6 same as Getaway. Considering it was a Peter Kay charity single it did quite poor really.

It's a lovely song though, although not as good as Getaway or Can't resist!

love Sleep, best Texas song of the 2000s, only only I really really like

miles and miles and miles better than Getaway or Can't Resist

Just taking into account how Texas did in the Red Book era, Sleep was the biggest hit from it. But that isn't saying all that much. It was the 171st best seller of 2006 with 40,500 sold. More of a success than the previous two. Getaway was only the 238th best seller of 2005 with 25,600 sold (an injustice!) and Can't Resist only sold 6,331 in its opening week so I'd be surprised if it touched 15,000 overall?

Sleep did help Red Book out a bit. The album went as low as #149 at the end of 2005, and while Sleep was a hit the album climbed back up to #27... although a couple of months later it was out of the Top 200 again, so not a strong revival.

It's a shame Getaway and Can't Resist have been missed, but not altogether surprising. Justice is long overdue for the poor old forgotten Mothers Heaven album too.

Carnival Girl was pretty DREADFUL, so maybe for the best that disappeared.

Looking at Spotify, there is SOME justification to their choices. It may not have hit the charts, but even 10 years after release The Conversation is still one of their more streamed tracks - it seems to be doing about 1m per annum, vs 60k for Getaway and only 25k for Carnival Girl

TOP TEN according to Spotify

01. Say What You Want

02. Summer Son

03. Inner Smile

04. I Don't Want A Lover

05. Black Eyed Boy

06. In Our Lifetime

07. Halo

08. The Conversation

09. In Demand

10. Mr Haze

I mean, I'm pretty sure any act releasing a greatest hits these days will have an eye for what gets streamed and what doesn't as the whole point would be to essentially create a Spotify list that gets streamed (aka "trickle sales").

And wow, I didn't realise their last "real" greatest hits was in 2000! (I don't really count Texas 25) :o
